Chris, I just tried to vote, but all I got was this, Who Made the Best Enclosure for the Enclosure Buildoff Championship? Or create a poll, but when I tried to click on who made the best enclosure, it did nothing. Maybe my OS on my iPad is to old, but if you have any suggestions, I'd be happy to try again.
I had that problem too. I tried reopening and eventually got the vote button, even though I never actually saw the full photos. I have an android phone. @@bkm2797
Your enclosure is the only one I feel that anyone could really use in a home for just about any animal. I love the backdrop and I voted for yours before I even knew it was yours! 💜
I voted for your enclosure last week, when it was still a blind vote! I honestly thought it was the best enclosure but I did also recognize right away that it was yours! You have a very incredible talent at building the perfect home for turtles and it was clearly evident! Best of luck in the competition and thanks for making my week with all the babies, it’s been a tough one so I needed this video!
Absolutely love hatchlings, they are so cute! Interesting set up you have for the incubation, haven't seen that before. Thanks Chris for the mini class and the babies, double delight! I will go over now to vote, love the way you and Casey set up perfect homes for our turtle friends.🐢❤️👍
There’s something so endearing in the appearance of a tiny little turtle trundling bravely along with fixed determination!! I really enjoy your videos. Elizabeth Delgado
I have been seeing you and Casey building enclosures ever since your first victory, and I easily recognised yours enclosure when I saw it in SDs first video. Voted you too, because I love the naturalistic style you have. Nothing weird or funny or too complicated, just beautiful piece of forest floor where animals can live and thrive.
That was amazing! I found your channel by chance from google news 🤩Thank you so much for this video! Am very new into the tortoise world, but this gave me so much!! 🐢 big greetings from France!!!
A few months ago, I found a baby terrapin! This was up in Ridgefield (I’m down in Ocean County though) When we went back to Ridgefield for work, I looked for more, but couldn’t find any. Turtles really are adorable lol
Oh wow nice! Yes we’ve been having those hatch at our study sites too. Tis the season! So many healthy eggs. And the new babies looked cute as hell. I love your whole operation. It's pretty flawless. I hope you've had a great weekend. Richard from Arkansas
@@GardenStateTortoise I just went and checked out the enclosures that Emily did at Snake Discovery and I'm not being biased but yours was hands down, in my opinion, the bees knees, lol. I put my vote in for you bud. I hope you win. Richard from Arkansas

Great question. It’s a tough one to answer completely but it does seem that some species have more failures than others. For example: angulate tortoise eggs seem to fail time after time and they have a very long incubation period whereas Burmese stars are so easy a child could pull it off as long as they’re fertile. North African Greek tortoises are also notoriously difficult to hatch yet they have a shorter incubation term at 60-70 days.
I voted for your enclosure before I even knew it was yours. I loved that it looked like LaCay could live in it. I was wondering if there is any update on the skateboard baby turtle?
I really enjoy your videos. I can tell you and your family really love and care for these animals. I look forward to meeting you and Otis in October at AnimalCon.
You bet cha, Chris! Wow; you sure do give such a large amount of info regarding the husbandry of eggs and hatchlings. Y’all are helping so many folks around the country (and the world) to better conduct their own captive breeding programs . . . biding very well for all of these spp. Thank you for all you do for turtles, tortoises, and terrapins. 🐢🐢🐢 May your tribe increase my friend! 🙂🙏🏻
For some reason they don’t let you click on the pics to look closer but each creator showed theirs in recent videos they made. Until I hatched them myself I never saw eastern box turtles in the wild until they were several inches long. Most hatch brown with a light spot centered in each scute but occasionally one would hatch with brighter markings. Once one hatched out almost solid bright yellow. Anomalies like that one would stand out in nature.
I was wondering if you could do a video on the actual incubator setup. I am using a Styrofoam cooler with water and aquarium heater in the bottom with a container suspended over the water.
Fistly Chris may i say thats a narly shirt you are wearing. Love the video especially as ive never seen turtle hatchlings. Are your incubators polystyrene and home made? We used to use felicamite ,excuse spelling, to keep our Ragworm (sea angling bait) in tp keep it fresh for upto a week in q fridge over here in Blighty.
All tortoises are in fact turtles but all turtles are not tortoises. Tortoises have elephantine feet whereas turtles have webbed or slightly webbed (box turtles) feet. Something I've noticed for a while now. You need to clean your lens or camera sensor. There's some debris on the center and the top left of the video. Easily noticeable when watching on a TV.
They do typically breed in the spring but plenty of people have success with them in tropical areas. @@GardenStateTortoise Time to call in favors and repost. #10 is cool, but you would have to remove the cool elements to safely keep animals. Looks like it was a fun event though!
Thank you for not saying its born. My pet peve is every RU-vidr saying reptiles "hatched" from eggs are born. Live birth is born, not hatched from eggs.
