Theres potential that them delaying the trabsformation only made it worse. Whatever cane out of them has grown to the point that its burst their whole ribcage open.
@@Pale_Mooncalf the pilgrims also hope to evolve into the opposite: The Angel. Theres only 2 outcomes for them and they rather choose the other one rather than the butterfly
I love that everything in DS3 screams of Miyazaki basically saying; "This is the end of this world, let's spend one last moment here together." It's just such a somber finality watching how even the enemies are withering away because this universe has literally exhausted its welcome.
He hasn't ruled out Dark Souls 4, he even eluded to one when asking if there was eventually going to be an Elden Ring or Bloodborne sequel. Something along the lines of, "We may work on a Dark Souls 4 or perhaps a new Sekiro. We'll just have to wait and see."
@@Tony73727 To me I think I'm happy with Dark souls not getting a sequel. That Fire fading is still the happy ending for me and seeing what happens if we decide to prolong the fire in the DLC makes you wonder if its still worth it to keep the flame alive unaturally
@@underling-macha-greentea I mean thats not THAT long ago hell Dark Souls 1 graphics are pretty faithful to the concept art. Im talking about like NES era where there was a huge gap between the concept art and the game graphics (just look at games like Mario Bros or Zelda)
It seems pretty close, but I don't think they got the effect right. The concept art looked like the entity was on fire, but its like oozing a mist instead in-game.
Ngl, while I love the final concept art, I really wish Souls artbooks would also include early iterations of designs more often, even if the drawings aren’t as polished. I’m curious what gets rejected before the final versions
The Pilgrim Butterflies and the Angels are my absolute favourite Fromsoft designs - they really put so much artistry into the Pilgrim concept, and the fact that it is almost entirely unexplained only makes these designs more fascinating
I think maybe Angels are their natural transformation? Cause the Hollows were also growing branches and turning into trees. Maybe whatever was making them do that, that’s how it affects the Pilgrims.
Pilgrim butterfly is made of burning abyssal pus which mirrors the dark sign in the sky. It’s like the abyss is straining against its shackles/seal of fire. Claiming the fire for humanity and the eclipse turning white seems to Suggest that the two forces, fire and the abyss/light and dark are no longer antagonistic in the same way, so you would get pale white angel instead. Of course it’s still a curse that causes undeath, the pilgrims just want to turn it to their advantage. The angels in the dregs heap are supposedly more of an astral projection of the pilgrim pupa, which are waiting for the fire to be claimed to fully hatch I think. This also gives a hint at how godlike their powers already are and may even hint at how an angel appeared before Gertrude.
Ds3 will always be the most beautiful game ever to me. I never got the impression that it was too gray, even taking into account that the world is literally dying.
I cannot summon the memory of anything more wretched than what I now see. I had the misfortune of arguing with someone who thought this, among other transformations, should be considered a good thing, becoming humans in Dark Souls are " different from real humans ". I hope they're looking at this right now.
@@HypaTaiga You underestimate the level of mental gymnastics people in this fandom are capable of. I just left, eventually; for all I know, all he heard from me was gibberish. Wouldn't listen to logic anytime soon. This video just reminded me, is all.
@alyseleem2692 if anything even from the negative aspects the dragon transformation seems better (well compared to Elden Ring at least those poor False Dragon Hybrids)
I dunno, it may be initially painful, but I think I'd rock this look~ Give me long arms, flight, power and toss my humanity aside. Probably easier for me to say it as a furry but whatever, I think they're awesome and wicked looking
This plus the all the Aldritch monsters are the most Bloodborne creature of the game, so distorted. Like if they tried to stretch humans to look like butterflies.
I kinda wish we had more lore on the parasite that does this to the pilgrims. My best guess is they come from the abyss sludge in the ringed city along with the locust priests. People of great faith or perhaps even angels twisted into insects that still wish for ascension by any means necessary...
Well the pilgrims wear those shells on their backs to keep the darkness within them and stop it from spreading in the world. If that darkness breaks out and escapes… this happens
@@andrewbowen2837well angels seem to be what inspired Geltrude's angels cult, which if we take into account Kaathe's statues depicted with wings, we can say it's a cult founded and diffused by Londor, of which the pilgrims are part of,faith (or in general a strong belief in something) is really powerful in Dark Souls, written tales of stories about the gods create physical embodiment of those tales, aka miracles, so maybe pilgrims believing to become angels or undead to become close to angels makes them transform into these two things
@@alessiobilleci7246 but the butterflies are very different from the angels. No creatures that I know of have two different metamorphoses like this. It almost suggests two different types of pilgrims
I honestly have no clue, I think originally it was what animated the armour but with the DSA's presence in the ringed city and the armour's description mentioning how it "remembered the hunts they shared" with it's wearer. Maybe it was animated by the butterflies and became sentient after the boss fight, hence how it's alive in the city.
They are undead aspiring to become angels, the angels faith that Geltrude spread was a faith created by Londor, as seen there are also winged statues of Kaathe in Lothric, and since londor wants to block the next linking of the fire, these "butterflies" had to use something to block us,such an empty armor ready to be filled with darkness (which os also why ending up in the ringed city stagnant waters reanimated the armor once again)
So are these things born from the hollows on the high wall who are turning into trees or the Londor pilgrims, and how do they relate to the angels in the dreg heap? BTW these things a both terrifying yet majestic?
Nobody is 'turning into' trees on the high wall, those are effigies of the butterflies made by using human bodies as seedbeds; the dark trees are growing through and out of the body deforming it into a resemblance of these guys, possibly in anticipation of their arrival. It's never stated explicitly but they're probably a product of the Londor pilgrims much like the angels. Lots of mystery left surrounding them but there's no indication of them coming from the tree-impaled hollows on the high wall, which after all are still there when the butterflies do arrive.
Also the angelic faith was created by Londor, so they may be undead who are not pilgrims but still transformed because of the angelic faith, and are helping londor or in general trying to block the linking of the flame by locking the way to Lothric and Lorian, but yeah they are most likely effigies, altough if they are just undead who successfully transformed into something but no angels could still explain why they are so different, but it would be weird they are called "Pirlgrim" Butterflies
I notice there's a weight painting issue on the ribs on the back. Is that the case-in game or did something happen somehow while viewing the isolated model
I wish Ds3 dropped the poopsnakes, skullknights, red eye skullknights , skull mobs in favour of weird Abyss inspired creatures from Ds1. Would have given the vibe that the flame is ending, and that the abyss you fought against 1 and 2(?) has gained the upper hand and destroyed the shape of humanity
It wouldnt make much sense, the abyss has changed since Ds 1, the flame kept going for too long, stagnating and corrupting the world even more, the "poopsnakes" (Pus of Man) it's the wild darkness spreading from hollows (which are a freaking well of darkness), the serpent thing is because the Abyss is actually trying to bring the world back to it's initial state but it cannot anymore (i mean when the world was grey with stone dragons, and yes i know ot seems to not make sense, but the abyss originally was meant to be Hollow and unmoving, but when fire came in, there came life and the emptyness and stillness got flushed away, the "Abyss" that Manus spread was more close to it's initial state but his humanity was "wild" because of emotions, not hollow and calm because of emptyness and nothingness, and like that becoming a stone Archdragon is not possible anymore but only to become snakes, which in lore are describe as Imperfect Dragons, in fact the two wyverns in lothric castle have Pus of Man sprouting, hinting that some hollow became wyverns, but still not archdragons, same thing with the Archtrees, now where there is dark there are trees and branches, but yet no giant trees of stone), and since now the Abyss is corrupted and kinda mixed with the deep because of fire staying too long it can only corrupt more unable to get back to the age of Archdragons, which reflects also into the monsters coming out of it, the Abyss changed ans so it's creatures (and ofc their design)
