Pillars of Practice - Part 2 of 2 - Hamza Yusuf (Foundations of Islam Series: Session 2) 

When I was in Medina, back in the 90's, I witnessed when the call to prayer came, I saw men leave their shops, without locking the doors, to go to the Mosque. Even gold shops were left unattended during the prayer time. I, as a westerner, found that amazing. No one seemed to be afraid of thieves. And I did not see anyone walking around with one hand.

How lucky are those people who are being taught by such a great scholar!!

A Muslim is generally encouraged to spend (through legal/halal venues e.g. no gambling or lottery) and not hoard wealth. Mostly a muslim is to spend on the poor but also on themselves (not extravagantly). And even if a person spends little on charity and spends most on themselves that's still beneficial to economy and creates jobs and circulates wealth. The zakah system also encourages lending (no interest).

9:30 --- "but they [Muslim men] don't HAVE to." - i.e. congregate for prayer This is an Ikhtilaafi (debatable) issue in Islamic fiqh over which there is classical scholarly disagreement. Some Scholars said it was mandatory, an individual duty on every Muslim adult, sane male. Whereas others argued it was a communal obligation (فرض كفاية) to congregate in the Mosque for the 5 prayers; not every one had to do it, but if some fulfilled the duty, great! ♦ Yet others said it was recommended only.

How old was Sheikh Hamza when he lectured?

He did talk about menstrucal cycle, and also what he said about Sunni tradition, most of scholar means using weapons against leader because it will be bloodshed, and in the end it will be muslims fighting against muslims. I don't where Hamza got the idea that Muslim "Sunni" are traditionally prohibited from going against the injustice ruler. Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Lybia, Syria and Kurdish people in Iraq are all "Sunni" by majority and they all rebelled against their tyrants.

Income tax according to its laws in the US is Obligatory not Mandatory... in other words you are obliged to pay but it is not mandated, ie there is no law in existence that states that you have to pay. Quran NEVER tells u to Pray 5 Persian Namaz Rituals but Quran tells u Aqimo-Salaat. ESTABLISH SYSTEM of Sallaat .Sallaat=Divine System given in Quran. For the sake of argument, even if we accept that Salaaat mean 5 Persian Namaz Rituals, then Pls answer us 49 questions: When Allah has called the Quran "Tibyaanan li Kulli Shaiyin" (16:89)". This means it explains everything; then Why the Qur’an is completely silent about the number of the component rakats [modules] of various prayers such as Sunnat, Fard, Nafal, Vitar, and Traveh? Where did these come from, and who were the perpetrators of such blasphemy? Do you have any answer? Why does the Qur’an not identify the verses suitable for recitation in each rakat of every prayer? What do you say about that? In the case of inheritance, Allah went into the details of shares for each family member, and used fractions like 1/2 and 1/6th to guide the people. Why then, there is not number of units of Fard and Sunna of 5 Namaz Rituals, what to read in Qayyam & Tash'had etc? Did Allah forget to mention units of 5 Irani 5 Namaz rituals? Does Allah forget? Has Allah shortage of words? Atta-Hyatt, an essential component to be recited before the completion of each module of prayer, consisting of two Rakats, is not available in the Qur’an. Who wrote and introduced this Arabic passage for the Nimaz, [prayer] and how did they dare to equate this human insertion with the text of Allah? Come out with your response! Where does the Qur’an mention that recitation of Surah Al-Fatiah is compulsory in every Rakat of each Nimaz? How do you look at that aspect of Iranian Nimaz? The term Allah-o-Akhabar is a repetitive and essential constituent of all prayers, but why it does not appear anywhere in the Qur’an? Have you ever thought about that? The Shi’ah begin their Wadu or ablution from the feet, in contrast to the Sunni, who begin with the face first. Can Allah issue such stupid and inconsistent commands? Do you agree or go the other way? Is it possible to identify even a single verse of the Qur’an, which issues specific command on the subject of funeral prayers? Which verse or, verses of the Qur’an provide details abt Eid-ul- Fitar prayer? Does the Qur’an mention Eid-ul-Dahha prayer in any verse, and where is it written for the Muslims to follow the Sunnah of Abraham, pertaining to the sacrificial lamb? Does the Qur’an instruct the Sunni Muslims to celebrate the festival of Eid-e-Meellaad-un-Nabi, through any verse? Shi’ah has different Aazan as compared to their Sunni counterparts. Can you identify, which one is in line with Allah’s commandments? The verse 2:115 pinpoints the fact, there is no need to face a particular direction or towards Ka’bah to please Allah, because he is anywhere and everywhere simultaneously. Certainly, mosques are built to house the administrative staff of the Islamic state for meeting day to day challenges, head on. It also acts as an assembly hall for the government officials, and the community leaders to come together, for finding solutions to any problems impeding the smooth operation of the divine social order. In the houses of Allah, the sovereignty of His rules and regulations reigns supreme. In view of that fact, nothing else carries any significance at all.’ * [72:18]. you forgot woman on her menstrual cycle. I find that your knowledge was lacking or wishy washy in s ome areas. especially about the Sunni tradition of people going out against the leader as prohibited. If he is a TAAGHEYAH like pharaoh for example, and he creates fitnah and disccord within the Ummah it is permitted. Anyway it may be your Maliki math-hab is a bit different
