I have noticed that Japanese pens and nibs prefer wetter, Japanese inks. I learned this the opposite way. I bought my first Lamy 2000 in EF, a Western pen made in Germany as everyone knows, and inked it with a Blue Japanese ink, Sailor Manyo Kikyou. It wrote like a broad and absolutely gushed ink. I quickly changed ink to a Pelikan Edelstein ink and it wrote beautifully. Also, I have noticed that blue is naturally a wetter color for some reason.
I have one of the rare Pelikan M800 Demonstrators with gold trim. I quite enjoy the look, especially with some colourful ink inside. Whenever I'll get a Custom 823 I'll probably go for the clear one as well.
I like the pen, and I like demonstrators with vac fillings systems best, but I hate the black inner cap. I don't like the black section and finals either, but could live it. I wish they just cleared out the whole pen, and with gold trim it really would have looked awesome.
Sure - I stupidly left my 743 in Asia just before the pandemic and haven't been back since. I'll note to make a video whenever I get that pen back... That 743 is the pen I miss most.
My all time favorite pen! I have both the amber and the smoke. I'm hoping you will give an update on how the color you chose is doing with the transparent barrel. My goal is to have this pen at least by December.
That was fun and thanks for sharing. Japanese fountain pens are my favorite, especially Sailor and Pilot. An amber 823 with a medium nib is at the top of my list for my next purchase. Please follow up with another video when you do the nib swap.
Great pen! I love that it is a demonstrator. I love my Pilot custom 74 ( M) and Pilot custom heritage 91 (F). I will probably get a 823 next. Would you say the 823 Medium nib is between the fine and medium of the smaller two pens? That sounds perfect for me if that is the case.
Great review of one of my favourite pens. I have a medium nib, which as you say is very much a European fine. I made the nib a little wetter. Maybe that is why mine is not at all picky regarding inks? Thanks for your thoughtful review. Cheers
After having the pen for some time now, have you had any issues with the clear acrylic staining? I have been on the market for the clear 823, but got an Asvine v126 first to see if I would like the vacuum filler. After inking it up once it is stained with Diamine Cerise. I have cleaned it several times and scrubbed the stained area with pen flush but no progress. Hate to spend $300+ on a pen just to have it be discolored after one inking.
Could you please tell which one of these custom 823 (F or M) writes more similar (in terms of width of the line and the smoothness) to Pilot Metropolitan with a medium nib? I have 2 Pilot Metropolitans with medium nibs and I like them the most among my other pens? Kindly reply.
What is this pilot custom 74 that you have? i thought the custom 74 was a converter pen but it seems strange the filling mechanism that u have, or did you eyedrop it or sth
I meant when you show the custom 74, it seems odd, maybe irts another converter and not the clasic con70, seems like it has springs inside or sth. @@seattlepenclub
From Japan mostly. I lived in Asia for a few years for work and found myself in Tokyo and Osaka quite a bit for work. Nowadays, either through friends or Amazon / eBay - no special channels unfortunately haha
I wish I could have stopped you with that ink. Reds, purples and in your case, orange can potentially stain your pen. you have my condolences ...... kidding.... but rreally wished you used a different ent color
