I am becoming a big fan of the Iroshizuku inks, almost tempted to dump all my other inks and stick exclusively to these. Lovely vibrant saturated colours, and at the same time well behaved with good flow, no smudging (unlike other saturated inks), quick dry times. I think Pilot have got the balance just spot on. Thanks for the review, you had a few I hadn’t seen before and gave me some ideas.

Ahh, morning coffee and an ink video... there it is, my favorite Iroshizuku, Asa Gao! Although, your demonstration has made me want to get a few samples, especially Tsutsuji and Syo-Ro. The Chiku-Rin reminds me of my bottle of Taccia Uguisu, which I adore.

I like the comment section almost as much as the reviews. I get to learn about inks I may have little to no information about from people like you in the pen & ink community. Now, it is imperative I check out the Taccia color you mentioned... Lol..

I'm exploring Irishizuku inks at the moment. I bough a copy of Murusaki-Shikibu and was so delighted with it. The shading is phenomenal. As always these ink reviews of your are great and you manage to get the colours accurately on the video. I can see how the Iroshizuku colours really work well together as a set. Sadly Murasaki-Shikibu is the only stand alone colour I like. I know that now from watching #1 and #2. So, Thanks 🙂 BTW - I too am not one for Blue-Blacks. I found them depressing. Then I came across Edelstein 4000, Pilot Blue-Black, Namiki Blue black, they're all much the same. They have a low'ish saturation giving great shading and a tilt to the blue side which makes them an ink to lift my heart. 😁

Good review, thanks. You can’t go wrong if the name “Pilot” is on the pen or ink. I’ve never been disappointed with Pilot products. (But I could say the same for several other companies.)

Fantastic review. Can you explain the difference between shading and sheening? I sort of understand but I am new.
@PenultimateDave
@PenultimateDave 3 года назад
Yes, shading is what a lot of inks will have, it's where an ink is watery and will start off say a bright green but get darker in the pooled areas. A sheening ink changes colour due to the amount of dye saturation in the ink. Sheening inks typically tend to be thicker inks, more harder to clean but depending on how the light and your eye hits the page, can change colour a little bit like pearlescent paint on a car in sunlight.

@@PenultimateDave Wow, you are the first one who has really made this confusing concept clear. And your comments on the inks, as you daub them on the paper, regarding their shading or sheening really helps big time. I have all the iroshizuku in the small bottles. I love them so much that I am making a little study of them, reading reviews specifically on the various colors. I appreciated your comment on the distinction between yu-yake and fuyu-gaki-- the two orange inks in their set.

Excuse my ignorance but how do you clean the nib of your ink sampling pen so quickly between each sample? I use a glass dip pen for sampling my inks and am very curious. Thanks you for the consistency in all your wonderful sample comparisons they are so helpful!
@PenultimateDave
@PenultimateDave 3 года назад
I have a number of empty ink bottles filler with water and a roll of kitchen towel off camera that you don’t get to see. I usually rinse the nib several times and dry the nib. It can sometimes take a minute or two to do this, and this gets edited out of the video so that there aren’t a lot of waiting around between ink swatches which would make the video boring 😉

I have a review of two of his Titan's at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2lJrH6Y4Ebw.html and another one at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dweMrPGta5s.html He doesn’t have a website, he’s on Instagram as instagram.com/williamshakour and can make pens to order.

I’m relatively new to the Fountain Pen community and don’t really have an overview of which inks are good. I also need my Fountain Pen for school. Has somebody a recommendation for inks I can use at or for school? Thanks !
@PenultimateDave
@PenultimateDave 3 года назад
I think it really depends on where your school is situated, various countries and even countries/states have different specifications on what is acceptable. For example, some only permit black inks, some only blue inks. Some won't permit bottled inks due to spillage or breakage concerns so some will just permit cartridges. I would say for the most part generally a blue or black ink would be more acceptable by most, but check with your local school to be on the safe side. In terms of which inks are safe, it really depends on what pens you are using, I would typically stick to water based fountain pen inks and stay away from IG (Iron Gall) or permanent inks.

I'm a newbie on this, so I'm not quite sure what you mean by shading and sheening
@PenultimateDave
@PenultimateDave 2 года назад
Shading is when the ink will go from light to dark, depending on the wetness of nib and how much pressure you apply when writing. Sheen is when an ink is iridescent, so it can change a completely different colour, e.g. blue to red.

Most of these are water based inks so will fade over time and few I believe are permanent inks, although Pilot Iroshizuku Kiri Same seems to be quite waterproof.

@@sistergoldenhair0727 Unfortunately I have not found an ink I don’t like. If the shimmer in some of the fountain pen inks clog my fountain pen, I end up using a dip pen. I even used a dip pen I made using a handle & a nib that was left over from some of my inexpensive fountain pens which fell apart or I didn’t have the ability to fix properly. I was surprised at how well this worked & happy I was able to make use of what would’ve been useless otherwise... Pilot Iroshizuku ink is lovely, but so are many other inks.... I like all of the ink labels you mentioned. Sigh..my ink addiction is showing...
