Pilot Makes Emergency Landing on Busy Highway 

He even does a better job of staying in his lane than most drivers!

As a pilot myself, landing on a curved highway, dodging cars with no engine in a densely wooded area with powerlines nearby is incredible pilotage!

Landing in the center turn lane on a curved road with no engine takes some serious skills.

*Piilot was calm* *His father-in-law was calm* _Oncoming traffic was incredibly calm, drivers kept driving as if seeeing plane on a highway was a normal thing_ 😎

And he did it on a curved road and managed to avoid hitting anyone. This guy has a future in aviation if given the chance.

For anyone looking for extra details: - He had less than 100 flight hours logged - He was flying a 1967 single-engine Aero Commander 100 - He was out flying over the property he recently purchased outside Bryson City

Being an instrument rated pilot myself, I recognize how difficult it is to make a dead stick landing on a curved stretch of road AND avoid hitting any cars in the process. Obviously, you have no power so you only have one chance to get it right. You have to make very quick decisions regarding altitude, speed, and direction... translating them into actions you take with your Yoke and Rudder. He did a great job demonstrating that his training paid off.

Putting our time and effort in activities and investments that will yield a profitable return in the future is what we should be aiming for. Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it.

*Pilot was asked how he remained so calm and he really said he did it for his father-in-law and the other people, not even mentioning himself. Now that's someone I would trust my life with.*

As a pilot myself we train for engine failures all the time. I was very impressed that he landed on a curved highways without much complications. He stuck to his training and remained calm under all the circumstances, well done!

I was one of the people in those cars and let me tell you this it was the most astonishing moments Iv experienced in my life I’m glad everyone made it out safe !!!

It was a miracle, not only the plane and the people on board the plane survived the emergency landing, but not a single car was hit during the landing.

I really like that in this emergency, he was thinking of keeping everyone safe, his father in law and the drivers on the road. He wasn't just worried about himself alone, but everybody.

The pilot was awesome. But what made it more great was him worrying about his father in law and the people he might hit on the road. Not one mention of himself. Selfless. Much respect brother for your skills and glad no one got hurt.

I can't stress enough how smooth that landing was. I actually can't imagine what's going through the minds of the people in the cars though 😂

Imagine being a driver on the road and all of a sudden you see a plane coming down to share the highway with you. I would be thinking to myself, "Well that's something you don't see everyday..." Fantastic job to the pilot and I'm glad that everyone was okay!

That's crazy difficult to land on a highway especially when the road is not straight! So much to factor in when landing and this doesn't even include managing airspeed and crosswind as he gets lower to the ground. As a certified flight instructor it is very impressive to see someone with such low flight hours to make a solid landing in that type of condition!

Imagine just driving, minding your business, “oh look a plane!” “Wait, it’s landing here???”

Reminds me of what retired NASA astronaut Chris Hadfield said during his Ted Talk, which was "the danger is entirely different than the fear" meaning that just because something is scary doesn't mean you need to panic. This pilot did an amazing job making sure he stayed calm and thought through the problem and made a quick well educated decision based on what options he had based on his training. Something that Colonel Hadfield and many other pilots would applaud. Great job!

Amazing job of that pilot to pull off that amazing landing. The other part that is fascinating, is none of the cars coming towards the plane didn't even try to switch lanes and move out of the way. They just stayed in their same lanes and kept moving, like this is business as usual.

"How in the world did you remain so calm?" Talking head doesn't realize pilots train for exactly these situations and not everyone panics in stressful situations.

As a pilot I know when something happens to your power your training kicks in, you hear your instructor's voice your ear telling you to always fly the plane. I've had 3 engine outs in my time flying.
