I’m a pilot and in 23 years of flying I’ve had 3 engine failures on take off. Always ALWAYS have a plan B in the front of your mind. Engine failure on takeoff is usually fatal, so good job. This wasn't the case here and this is fishy. Engine was running even if it went off 3 times. GoPro cameral was working well. Cars were not freaking out on the road. Plane took off three days later but the story doesn't explain what was wrong. Sounds like fuel starvation or failure to switch tanks. Probably an embarrassing mistake, but the video was too cool to leave out the vital info.

I had a similar circumstance about 2 months ago. I was preparing to land at an airport for fuel about 5 miles away when the engine stopped. I immediately looked at my gauges and they showed half a tank left. Its amazing how many things run through your mind in a short time. Obviously where to land was first, and I know its stupid, but also how embarrassing it was to die of fuel starvation. Luckily between the trees was a small 2 lane road where I landed. As I rolled out, a Jeep rounded the corner. You never saw someones eyes get so big before as they saw a plane rolling towards them. I didn't mean to take so long to tell this story but I never told this to anyone, especially my wife. She worries enough when I fly already.

He did an amazing job! That was not the straightest of runways he touched down on. I can't blame him for having second thoughts about continuing flying. I gave up flying years ago, something that has always been my childhood dream. But after owning a plane and realizing just how expensive they are and a few close calls I decided to keep my feet on the ground. I always told my wife that if I died flying never say at my funeral he died doing what he loved, because if I knew flying would get me killed one day, I would never fly again!

So what would you tell someone who is at the beginning stages of learning to fly, I mean obviously these are not stories you hear everyday, and I mostly see this with single engine planes but as someone who is fresh to the aviation world, yes this scares me and is always in the back of your mind when you fly but I shouldn't let stories like this hold me back, right?? I mean I had the option of getting a pilots license or a motorcycle license, thinking I chose the "safer route" with continuing my journey to obtain my pilots license, I still feel I'm making the right choice, would you agree??

Sounds like this man had some good instructors also. I instructed for years and on virtually every instruction flight I would incorporate a engine out dead stick off airport landing scenario with my students. Doing it this often students got very proficient at setting the aircraft up and positioning it for the landing. We also practiced dead stick spot landings regularly from the airport pattern. I loved it when a student could tell me where he was going to contact the runway and could do it continuously. Nice job flying there young man.

@timjilman3295
@timjilman3295 2 года назад
@@user-tb7rn1il3q I wouldn't go that far, there are more 67s around than 77s, 87s or 97s, combined. Even cars built in 07 won't be around in ten years. The problem is, even in 07, they were too complicated for an average yard mechanic to keep on the road, not so much based on capability, but the cost, they simply aren't worth the investment and simply don't have any intrinsic value. Almost any car from the 60s, no matter how lame, does have value, just by virtue of still existing.
