aye thought the exact same thing.... DCS should easily be S-Tier in realism, they model the entire cockpits where every button and switch is usable and does exactly what it's supposed to.... why rank the players knowledge and ability when you're supposed to be ranking _the game_ ???

No war thunder and il2 strumavik? Who is giving him options. He's a great expert at least show him good games to review. Even arma and rising storm have better flight mechanics, at least you gave him DCS and MFS. Try playing any of the games above mentioned in vr and in simulator mode (WT has option to choose mode). War thunder also has one more good thing if one doesn't get many matches in sim then try flying in rb with vr. It becomes more thrilling and at least comes close to the feel of sim.

Well his previous experience was literally War Thunder Arcade mode. I didn't understand that either, why noone showed him Simulator battle mode.

As much as WT takes to grind and is a pain in the ass for various reasons. It is beautiful when it comes together. The real fun is RB and sim especially in VR for air. It doesn't have accurate and functional cockpits like DCS but its large player base gives it more intensity. In both DCS and WT one might die with a shot from nowhere but at least in WT one can have some action before dying, and then spawn back to have some revenge. While reviewing Ace Combat the controls were not in expert mode for him it's like giving an adult training wheels for riding a bicycle.

@@leongao5120 now vtol vr is better simulated than dcs in some areas. e.g. the radar is properly simulated in contrast to dcs. but it looks cartoonish. i know. as always clothes make the man.

David has gotten a lot more comfortable in these videos. I'd love to see more of him with either Cameron or Israel, or maybe even the tank commander (I forget his name at the moment), because he really opens up with a second person to go off of.

5:35, the reason for the countdown being so fast is because london city airport has a steeper then usual approach angle, i think its 5 degrees.

At 5:30, he talks about the aural cues from the radar altimeter and the PAPI lights. I only want to bring this up because this is a very niche thing to know about that you'd probably only know about if you've had experience at the airport they're landing at in the clip and isn't me being needlessly critical of very well done video. The reason why the PAPI lights are indicating correct glideslope but the cadence is so fast is because the glideslope at London City Airport is higher than most any other airport anywhere else due to the fact that it is placed really badly relative to the geography of the rest of Central London. This is so much so that aircraft that use the airport have to be specifically rated for their type to conduct the steep approaches. The heaviest aircraft rated for the steep approaches is the A318. That A320 technically isn't rated. Although saying that, a sim instructor at airline pilot flight academy showed me taking in a 757 into the airport in the full motion simulator whilst I was sat in the FO seat once just to prove that the aircraft are more capable than their safety limitations but that there was a reason that they existed. Needless to say that if that were a real 757, it'd be in for some serious repairs and there'd be a very angry Mx guy.

Dude I love vtol vr, but it’s in my opinion more unrealistic than war thunder, especially when looking at the good ol Jank physics in vtol. For the feeling, vtol takes the cake getting to have 100% interact-ability in Vr, but it’s most definitely not up at the most realistic.

there's a specific video called Eli-21 by Adrián Caparzo. It's a short film shot in DCS and has some wonderful visuals and impressive attention to detail. I'd love to see him react to it and give his thoughts since it's a very realistic mission with real maneuvers used.

I've binge watched Eli 2-1 for quite a while, I've even considered making something similar in another game. It's so well put together and choreographed and I just want MORE (but will happily wait if it means his next work will be of similar quality or better)

Putting VTOL VR in the same category as Ace Combat is borderline insulting. Both War Thunder and Vtol VR deserve the B tier, as being a simlite kind of thing.

Dcs is actually really realistic compared to all fighter jet games out there. You should try it out. The guy you showed in the video didn’t have good energy management. Try watching growling sidewinder

It'd be interesting to have him *fly* some of the games. Put him in a sim pit and have him do IL-2 and DCS and a VR headset for VTOL VR... that would be cool to see. He points out, accurately, that there are lot of sim pilots who struggle with accurate callouts. I don't enforce it with my community, as long as it's accurate, brief, and clear, I think it's fine, but I get it from his perspective. But that accuracy stops mattering when he's the one in the hotseat, since he knows how to make accurate callouts and to fly, so it'd be cool to see him do it.

The reason the glideslope was so steep in the Airbus landing on msfs was because they were landing at London city airport, because of the buildings the glideslope has to be about 2x steeper than a usual glideslope to land there, and pilots need special training to do so

This tier list is D tier - This is not much of a ranking of video game realism. His criteria for judging realism of a game/sim appears to be: 1. Am I familiar with the aircraft and avionics in this game? 2. What is the skill level of this player in the footage? 3. Everything else.

This channels does this man a disservice. He is willing to give you his time but you always choose the crappiest gameplay footage or games/simulators. Use this mans expertise and show him some good clips. Don’t let some intern who just googled fighterjet games recommend this. If you put some more effort in research these videos could be epic especially for aviation enthusiasts. At least MFS and DCS were mentioned

No disrespect for the guy on the screen, but this video is very low effort. Some random crap clips from a couple of games... I mean, seriously. If DCS doesn't belong in S tier, I don't know what does, but you won't be able to tell from an action oriented clip on youtube. Out of all those, which one is used by parts of actual military forces to use as training aid? Yeah, it's DCS. That says something about it. Also, to your point - I agree that it's a bit silly to judge the game by how the players fly. Oh, this guy doesn't use proper brevity and gets excited when his wingman is getting fired upon -- that means the game is unrealistic? What? ;)

Takes longer to reach the 4th gen jet fighters than it takes to learn a degree! ...and if you want to try another 4th gen aircraft you have to do it all over again.

This video needs to change its title to “Pilot Ranks the Most Realistic Flight Sim Videos”. Actually play the games and then tell me if the mechanics are realistic or not. The mere point that you put VTOL as the same class as Ace Combat says that you are just judging a video and nothing else. Also, you can’t base the realism of Flight Sim 2020 or DCS on someone’s tactics or lack there of; that doesn’t mean that the mechanics and systems aren’t modeled accurately.

I know civilian flight sims like MSFS2020 might not be the kind of high-octane action packed excitement like you get from games like Ace Combat or War Thunder, but the appeal comes from learning the systems involved in flying such a complex aircraft and it's such a dopamine rush when you get it.

When I watched a YT of a Rear Admiral with over 1000+ hrs of F14 flight time, Jump on DCS and do a carrier landing, talk about how the only thing missing was the feedback from actually being in the seat, but otherwise, the module was solid, That made DCS S tier.

There was a really good flight sim for it's time on PS2 back in the day called Aero Elite: Combat Academy and it was actually very realistic. I imagine it would still hold up today and be worth playing honestly. It's not quite Microsoft Flight Simulator but the physics were extremely good. It wasn't anything like Ace Combat, the entire game was just tutorials and passing tests after learning maneuvers ranging from the yo yo to the good old formation loop. It had classes and tests for VTOL as well which was REALLY hard. It took me weeks of practice every day to be able to shift from flight to VTOL mode and land vertically in a Harrier just once to be able to pass the test. Likewise with Helicopters. I remember one dog fight where I set the AI to the ACE difficulty and the battle lasted almost 2 hours. I managed to gun him down finally after we both exhausted our missiles and it became a gun fight for an hour, but I ultimately ended up running out of fuel on the way back because I jettisoned my tanks upon entering the fight to increase my F-15's maneuverability. It gave me a real sense of respect for the people actually doing that stuff in real life and the calm but quick thinking it takes to stay alive up there and trust in what you've trained or practiced.

Talking about Ace Combat 7. They assigned a beginner to play an advanced mission in the middle of the campaign (where the initial missions are more realistic), using arcade control settings (while most players use the expert controls, allowing the aircraft to rotate freely). It seems like they intentionally adjusted the game to appear less realistic when showcasing it to a real-life pilot.

Yeah, I don't fly it and VR controls sound meh as heck, but from what I saw there's enough meat on that bone to go above something clearly arcade like BF... Sounds like an inbetween, a simcade or something.

The jet that they used in a VTOL is a fiction aircraft which is a mixture of some dfferent aircraft. They also have a F-35 which is renamed to F-45A for copyright reasons

what no aggressor (the game) what is this sacrilege also on what points are you rating the games ex: like physics, callouts and other stuff because i feel it is unfair to rate some games lower just because some of the players are just casuals that just want to have a good time with their buddies and not go full sim mode. i feel like realism would be like physics, ai callouts and depending on how you chose to see it maybe graphics but some low poly games still gave incredible graphics just not realistic graphics.

While having AIM-7s on a modern fighter jet is definitely unrealistic. I can understand why they did it. Even in DCS I prefer to fly with AIM-7s for game play reasons. With the Fox ones you will eventually merge with your opponents. And dog fights are fun. Even if they are very much a point and shoot affair. But for game play the late cold War level technology is really really good. But in a lot of ways I'm one of those B tir level players, kinda.

I'd tick VTOL a bracket lower. It's a good in-between from what I've seen, but on the same level as MSFS? Overall? I mean... It beats it in that it actually does combat, but does it do anything that MSFS does to a comparable level? Cockpits look more like a metaphor. You can do fantasy planes but still make the cockpits stylistically similar to the real thing.

I fully agree with the ratings and I am happy where they are but i have a full problem with showing them a low level DCS world aircraft like the flanker. It is an amazing plane and i love it in game and in real life but why would they not show them like a really well done plane like the f14 or f18 or example. Instead of the cheap ones. It still got A for a rating so I am happy but I think they showed the wrong footage.

Very nitpicky and I wouldn't expect someone who's not from the area to know. But I would take a point away on MSFS for the A320 landing at London City, I'm pretty sure aircraft only up to the size of an A318 can land there.
