What's PPD?

@@replacesoundboard PPD measures the number of pixels that are packed within 1° of the field of view (FOV). The higher the PPD, the better the system resolution of the VR headset. Basically, the higher that number the better the clarity.

From your point of view, which one would be worth getting? The QLED or the micro OLED? I know OLED will obviously have better blacks, but like they said, it's new tech, they may have more experience in making QLED. There's a risk the experience with OLED might not be as good. (I'm still wondering whether or not I should purchase the full package to avoid taking the risk)

Yeah it's an interesting one. It's a controlled environment, there's no natural light issue. I'm not sure I'd spend the extra on the OLED. But hard to say until I can test side by side.

Pimax says that the OLED version has less FOV, so that was a letdown for me, but I'm still going for the bundle

@@Sixtysilver4 So many times I've seen the software cut down the FOV anyway. The maximium is great, but only when it's hit.

I'm thinking I may lean towards the OLED. I just read a review about the Pimax Crystal from a sim guy. He said the local dimming actually wasted a night sky experience by shutting down part of the backlight when he wanted to see the night sky filled with some stars, so he ended up with a completely black sky without actually seeing the stars that were there. He didn't mention how much he set the local dimming, but if it wasn't maxed out, that's concerning. I like darkness but not at the cost of missing out on details that should be there. Still more interested by this than the Bigscreen Beyond, but only if it's sold through Amazon so that I can refund if it's a disappointment. The only good thing from my point of view is the auto IPD instead of being locked like the Bigscreen Beyond.

@@motivatedtravel To be fair, I don't know a lot about them. This is all I learned about them: - Sounds like they make super user high end headsets but you need to be good at tinkering if needed. - Oooh, Pimax Crystal Super? At least it's not the Bigscreen Beyond. - Uh? Discontent people in the comment ever since they participated in Kickstarter? - Overblown promises? Bad customer support (depending on whether you're lucky or not)? Bad return policy? Unkept promises? I guess the same could be said about HTC Vive's customer support but at least their product is more reliable. For Pimax, if I still consider purchasing from them, I think I'd wait for the headset to be sold on Amazon since I don't live in Australia. I read testimonies about people who had to pay $200 of return fees to send back a defective headset.

Imagine if the swappable panel mean in the future you can upgrade your headset without having to purchase a new one. Farfetched, I know. But I like hardware that can be upgraded.

This is was exactly what I first thought, too. It seems like they are looking that way. Samsung is doing this with their TVs, too. All the brains is an external box, and the panel is separate.

I haven't tried VR since the original Vive and I am sooooo desperate to try one of the latest generation headsets. If you know of anywhere in Sydney let me know 😂

Resolution improved. A lot. But most newer headsets are lacking when it comes to dark environment compared to original Vive. Playing a dark game will feel like having a lit grey monitor stuck on your face. It may matter for some people such as me, but it might not be a problem for you.

The Pimax website does a very poor job of explaining the differences between the two options. There are a lot of complicated variables. I wish someone would just make a comprehensive chart of the pros and cons on both sides.

If you own AMD then forget about it. It won't work and Pimax will not respond to your tickets.
