Showing the modifications I have made to my printer.
The CR-10 works straight from the box and these mods make no difference to the prints which are excellent. They do make it nicer to use.

If you make another clip regarding the wireless modification i'm sure a lot of people here will love you forever and ever!

Interesting to note some items like the knobs and spool guides that you would have cast and machined once upon a time have now been replaced by the 3D method, you are definitely transitioning from one discipline to another- I think it is called progress. ☺

Hey, that's our knob :D Cool! I also really like what you did with the awful orange striping. It makes me want to rethink taking them off. Which was the very first I did when I took the printer out of the box. And I think I'm also going to print your cable clips. Great stuff with the remote operating as well, but I haven't stepped into that department yet, so will leave that for later :)

P.S. if you like the knob, you might also want to try the new bigger version. It's much quicker in use and you can quite easily spin it with just one finger. And I think it will also fit your CR-10, as I ended up having made a mistake with the first version of the .. euh, first version.

You turned your printer into a fully remote version already? Wow... I knew you are good... but with that learning curve... wow... what will be next... full enclosure... full color printing... or a completely new material and/or printer? You certainly have outdone yourself again... I stand in awe and you never seize to amaze me! I myself am still trying to catch up on some of your simpler machining skills... you just grinned at me and took off into the horizon... well done indeed Sir! Take care. ;)

Great video and great upgrades. Thank you for Sharing. I have a new CR-10S for about a month now (my first 3D printer) and so far have found it to be great. I am slowly adding various upgrades the first of which have been the leveling knobs. Today I received my Raspberry Pi 3 so I may begin using Octoprint. I have watched many videos on the setup and configuration and was able to get everything setup and working or so I think. When I connected the Pi to the CR-10S the display immediately lit up even with the power button off and does not seem to ever turn off. I tried turning the power button on to see if I could then turn the CR-10S off through Octoprint as you had shown in your video but was not able to find where I could even do so. Since I am using an iPhone for remote control in addition to a web browser on my laptop. That being said I am not able to use the Printoid app but was able to find and download OctoClient. Did you have similar issues when first getting your setup going that you were able to figure out? Any suggestions or pointers you cold possibly share? Thanks again
@myfordboy

I did not have the issue with the control panel being powered from the Pi but I have read others have. There is discussion on the CR10 group on Thingiverse you will be able read about it.

Can you do a video explaining how to do the remote control for it?
@myfordboy
@myfordboy 6 лет назад
I had a lot of help with the software intall. The hardware is fairly easy. There are videos here on RU-vid showing how to install Octoprint and wire a relay board to a Raspberry Pi from guys who can show it better than I can. If you want to do this I suggest first getting a Raspberry Pi B and install Octoprint on it. You will then be able to upload files , control and see the temperature on your PC. With a web cam plugged into the pi you can watch the progress. Then if this is working OK get the Printoid Pro app and wire in lights and printer. I can help with the wiring if necessary.

I installed a LED strip, a Raspberry Pi B and Octoprint on my Cr-10, I bought Printoid Pro and all work fine... but... I'd like to control my LED and printer power with Printoid. Is it possible to have more information about relay installation, wiring and Printoid command (to control relay On/Off). Thank you for sharing all your project!

So are you going to share the remote controll feature? I see it is mentioned in the video with a file uploaded but I don't see any info. Much appreciated.

There are many videos on Connecting Octoprint via Rasberry Pi and connecting a relay board. They can explain it better than me. I needed help with the software installation it did not go as the videos.

Excellent video, I’m currently working on the Rasberry pi 3 b+to operate the printer through WiFi on my LAN, it won’t be accessible outside of the LAN. I would hate to be watching a print from work and see my printer burst into flames 🔥 while I wasn’t there. 😉. I’m using a Samsung Galaxy note pad right by the printer to control. Nice job!

I operate mine by WiFi using Octoprint an the Printoid App. Recommended.

how did you make the light go on with touch of button?
@myfordboy
@myfordboy 6 лет назад
i am using Octoprint and Printoid Pro App. This works with a Raspberry Pi connected to the printer via USB. The app can control relays connected to the PI. I have 4 sockets wired to a relay board and each can be turned off and on from my phone via WiFi. I have no need to touch the printer controls at all, files can be transferred via the App. and the print started. When the print finishes I get an audible alarm on my phone. Pure magic.

I have the led connected with a power adaper, so I need to direct connect the led to the Pi and rempve the adapter?
@myfordboy
@myfordboy 6 лет назад
You have to wire a relay board to the pi and then wire a mains socket through the relay and plug your led adaptor into this. You will be dealing with mains voltages to do not try unless you are comfortable with this.

There is a risk that the new spool holders rotate on the axle and thereby jamming the spool.

You are going to want to print yourself one of these, a classic Toyota 22RE www.thingiverse.com/thing:644933 He also modeled the transmission and transfer box which is what I'm working on between other jobs right now. You obviously have some skills so I'm sure you'll work out the ins and outs of these in no time.

This is why Apple has lost the game, BIG TIME! Your so limited when you have iOS. They don't want you to do anything they want you to do where as android lets you do what ever you want e.g. that app

He's using octopi. It's a raspberry Pi setup that lets you control your printer over the internet. It isn't android based.

Android and apple both have their pros and cons, however the issue of having an app to do this is simple down to 2 seperate things. First - Which platform the developer likes to use and program in, and Second, this was not android or apple, rather it is Raspberry.
