I know you from the top of all the leaderboards. 😅 It's of no wonder why you are there too. These techniques are superb and you have mastered them. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the compliments. Spent many hours over many years playing real pinball and almost everything I learned there translates to fx nicely, which I think is testament to how well Zen have reproduced some of these tables as well as the physics they play with. Thats what keeps me coming back to this game. That and the leaderboard scores I am yet to conquer ;-)

Good to hear. I'm half-way done recording footage for a similar themed video focused on multiball, but I broke my right flipper finger last week so I'm off duty for a few weeks :-(

I knew about 30-40% of this stuff, there others make me feel like a real amateur. My dad was a nudge master and people would always make jokes till his high score always was double to triple the second place score. Thanks for the vid, im going to have to watch multiple times to "relearn" some stuff :)

@scootinlootinnshootin683 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for the comment and glad you found this helpful. And yep, when you reach a point where your dad has done it becomes possible to start racking up scores other players can't conceive of (until they are shown the way), which I think is why so many are quick to accuse top level players of cheating. I actually left a few tricks out of this clip (mainly related to surviving multiball) because I felt they required explanation instead of just a video example. I'll get around to posting that one soon

Thanks! Nicely demonstrated. I learned a few terms for things that I do, but didn't know what to call them e.g. live flipper nudge.

Thanks for the compliment. There's probably other phrases for some of those moves, I'm not 100% on the vernacular of it all, but that's what me and my pinball buddies called it :-)

Great video, I will be returning to this a lot I think! I noticed in your Outlane Nudging examples, you are mostly just nudging forwards, is that what you’ve find works most of the time? I really struggle with dealing with the outlanes and I never know if I’m supposed to nudge left, right or up (or a combination).
@scootinlootinnshootin683
@scootinlootinnshootin683 2 месяца назад
It depends on what the ball is doing. If the ball is moving precariously towards the outlane relatively quickly and I feel a nudge is required I'll usually default to a forward nudge, mainly because forward nudging provides more movement (and thus influence on the ball) than sideways movement. If I can see that a nudge left or right might help I'll often combine it with a forward nudge. And if a ball is already past the outlane post and is almost certainly on its way to drain I'll try a little juggle to pull it back out. An example of juggling the ball back out of the outlane would be a quick left / right (or visa versa), possibly a left / right / forward. One thing I learned about forward nudging in FX is that you need to time it differently (than FX3) to get the same effect. I am nudging ever so slightly sooner than I would in FX3, or even real pinball for that matter.

Thanks for the video! I've been struggling trying to pull these real life techniques in the game. I kept seeing your scores and trying to aim higher and higher, I can just barely squeeze into the top 100 on Hurricane and Fun House and lower 100s on other Williams tables. I don't know how the hell you got so high on CFTBL best I can do is hit move your car over and over.
@scootinlootinnshootin683
@scootinlootinnshootin683 3 месяца назад
You're welcome. The main secret to scores like that in CFTBL is to multiply jackpot scores during multiball with the left ramp before trying to score any jackpots. Catch one ball with the left flipper and use the right to keep hitting that ramp until 4x is up, then start hitting jackpots. I do much better in this game if I play slow and methodically, more so than just about any other

@scootinlootinnshootin683
@scootinlootinnshootin683 Месяц назад
Most of these techniques will work in the original tables, but not really with the same results on a few of the trickier techniques. I don't play the originals as a general rule, although I did quickly fire up one of the few that I do own to test drop and live catches, and due to the reduced speed and weight of the ball it is different. A little easier to pull off these moves, but the ball doesn't respond quite the same way. Admittedly, I only really put it to a 3 minute test.

@2:07 Wow, pretty neat. Thanks for this. Are you using a keyboard, or controller? I using an Xbox controller, and I'm finding I can't pull off nuanced cannonball-style shots with the triggers. There's just too much travel.
@scootinlootinnshootin683
@scootinlootinnshootin683 Год назад
I'm not using a keyboard or standard controller. I have decades of experience playing real tables so I had to replicate the feeling of playing an actual machine as closely as I could, without going to the hassle of building a cabinet. So I reluctantly bought an X-Arcade Tank Stick and was very relieved once I plugged it in and instantly found it superior to keyboard or x-box controller. It does feel much more like Pinball, especially if I play standing up. I'm kind of amazed these things don't get more attention in the Pinball sim community. They're not perfect (I'm tempted to swap out the flipper switches for real ones) but they are way better than a keyboard. shop.xgaming.com/products/x-arcade-tankstick-trackball-usb-included I have modified it quite a bit, sawing off the edges to give it a squarer shape at the sides, repositioned a switch for quicker access to a fwd nudge. I've also added extension levers for the secondary flipper buttons so my fingers don't have to play twister in order to pull off those live flipper nudges.

@@w0mblemania I have thought of that but all my messing with it has turned it into a strange object that looks more like it belongs in the Mad Max universe than it does a gamers den. Its kind of turned into a prototype of something I'd like to build and am contemplating doing just that. If that happens I'll share for sure. In the meantime, picture that tankstick with the overhang edges cut off and sanded down with rudimentary but functional plastic levers (made out of an old Hobie kayak hull) that are used to operate several switches that are otherwise too far for my fingers to travel
@BBIAJ
@BBIAJ Год назад
I've only ever played pinball using the bumpers/shoulder buttons where possible, the delay in flipper response caused by the trigger travel just isn't worth it.

Any tips for keeping the ball from draining in Attack From Mars? I had heard to avoid using the left flipper to hit the center, and that helps
@scootinlootinnshootin683
@scootinlootinnshootin683 Год назад
Avoiding left flipper to center targets would have been my first bit of advice to. Aside from that, one tip I would share is to send the ball into the jets as often as possible during multiball. Balls will get held up in the jets and the longer the better, leaving the rest of the playfield clearer to make shots.

Thanks. That's years and years of pinball experience and ingrained muscle memory translated to digital pinball. Its a testament to how well Zen have created a simulation that mimics the real thing. Pretty much every technique shown works much the same way on a real machine, with a similar degree of difficulty (except for the nudge pass, which is infinitely easier with digital pinball).

Those loop passes are just dead bounces. a true loop pass has you drop the flipper just before the ball gets to it, which deadens some of the momentum, and gives you a clean catch on the other flipper. They are wonky on fx, but you can use one to take out the force field super skills hot in AFM, which is a famous table for loop passes

Yeah, you're probably right about that. Funny, after I published it and watched it back I saw another issue with them and regretted not fleshing that out a little more. I kinda regret leaving out a couple of tricks as well so I might do a fuller version soon and if so I'll try to redeem myself

@@scootinlootinnshootin683 thanks so much! Just got into Pinball pretty recently (specifically pinball FX)and have been playing on Xbox… lol. The flipper lag as well as having so little/no control to do micro flips and precise movements because of the Xbox triggers is getting a frustrating. I’ve been wanting to find something like that X Arcade Stick so I can move over to pc and have a more realistic playing experience for a while now. Anyways, thanks so much for the response!

@scootinlootinnshootin683 2 месяца назад
Yes. That's why I wrote this "Beginner to Advanced Pinball techniques" in the description. Emphasis on "beginner", and including the nudge pass is precisely why I worded it that way. Also, this is actually an advanced technique on a real machine. Some people will tell you it can't be done (those guys protest the existence of it in Pin FX for this reason), but it can. But it is difficult to do, and the lat time I tried I nearly broke my 50+ year old wrist. Piece of piss in Pin FX though.
