Evan wrote about “New Friends” in his reddit AMA in March 2016. "i think new friends is in part about how when you connect yourself deeply to a person sometimes it’s at the exclusion of your other people. & what happens when you and your partner break up? lookin up once the dust has settled and realizing you forgot to water your other relationships & now they’re wilty"
There's this moment at 1:20 that I keep playing back. Evan's vocals are almost delayed by a quarter beat, and it sounds so frickin awesome! Super stylistic, something I'm not used to. It has this folky county quality I just can't put into words that works so well.
I think they filmed this at the south mountain reservation in new Jersey. Pretty sure there's a cool little waterfall not too far from where they're sitting
Don't know why these guys aren't famous. Really great stuff. Sad to see them go through this time period and not make multimillions of dollars. Our culture sucks.
Soketimes i get men. I get the point of withsrwwing from everyone. The person i love the most has bexome me because i know rhats what you love about me anyway
Speaking of alt-country, I do wonder if Evan's brand of musical facial mannerisms (e.g. overt overbite at 0:16, rhythmic head bobbing at 0:26) are consciously or unconsciously inspired by Ben Bridwell (Band of Horses) - or maybe belong to a broader tradition before them? I might be tempted to think such a comparison is imagined, superfluous, but as a musician and performer myself, I'm not so sure; I think we get these kinds of habits from other performers as often as we get them anywhere else. Either way, you love to see it.
How strange is it that pop punk kids love this band. Don't get me wrong they're amazing but sonically they don't fit anywhere in the pop punk or emo scene
you make all these stupid ass genres why does it matter who listens to it just enjoy the music not the stupid ass over-confusing genre it is. you can learn the genre of every song
