Probably the most underrated anime of all time. I still tear up at this ending song and it’s been a while since I last watched it. It’s so unbelievably human. Everyone is so real. I will praise this anime to the ends of the earth until the day I die and I honestly believe that.
Bro the ending makes me so sad every time I think abt it, I’m so sad tsukimoto didn’t get on a national team with them, the plot is so well done bro, honestly makes me wanna cry how good that show is
vorti gaunt Yea, that's one of the dumbest comments I've read in a while. Alonso simply doesn't understand what "decade" means. Probably thinks you can only refer to a time frame as a decade when they end in zeroes, such as from 2000 to 2010. Just ignore these people and maybe even take pity on them.
I was first reluctant to watch this anime because the art style literally murdered me. Then one day I accidentally clicked on the first episode and I ended up watching it all the way through and boy I don't And never will regret it. Everything was amazing. And the art style happened to become one of my top 10 favorites.
definitely. everything in this show was RIGHT. the character development, general question and idea, all of it. it all was perfect. i feel that this show wasn't about ping pong. sure, it's literally in the title but i feel that ping pong was what brought in all of the ideas and shit with all of the characters. what do we want in life? fame? power? money? to just win? all of those ideals were those of most of the prominent characters and i feel it came across perfectly.
To me, in this manga, and his others, he uses the same narrative, and that's the star that shines on a moon (the start is Peco the moon is Smile). Yes, Ping Pong, is a lot not about Ping Pong, just like Zero isn't about a boxer or Doraemon isn't about Nobita's in the future, but about how we worry about it too much). Maybe just his latest work Sunny (which I cannot wait for the last chapter to come out in english) is about what it is, but not even, or at least I haven't been able to figured it. So yep, Ping Pong is your life or your passion in general, what you think you're destined to be. Also touches themes of "mastery" we always hear from people about masters (regardless of the art form or career), about how simple and uncomplicated things are for them, that's Peco for you, and the work he put on is also impressive, tons of lessons on this story :)
Misaaki Yuasa is one of the best anime directors ever, and Ping Pong is the best anime this year so far! It's a shame that most of his stuff is overlooked, because I'm still waiting desperately for Kemonozume and Mind Game to get released here.
One of my all time favorite pieces of art,, 11 episodes yet so touching and eye opening.. I loved the life lessons and messages the author shared and the delivery of them were top notch.. It was a sports anime but it wasn’t at the same time.. it was much deeper and much more meaningful and complex.. I loved the characters and their development, the storyline, storytelling, artstyle, soundtracks and the general vibe of the anime itself I love that it’s one of those hidden gems but at the same time it deserves so much more love and recognition.. sadly lots of ppl refuse to give it a shot due to the artstyle or the fact that it’s a sports anime or maybe both… And this ending was, is and will always be one of my all time favorite endings it’s just so soothing ☕️
I was rooting for all of them, but the one i felt really sad towards was Kazama. How he always put himself aside to chase something bigger than himself, made me feel really empty and pitiful towards him.
This is quite possibly the best anime I’ve ever watched. I think Kong is my favorite character. Even though he was introduced at the beginning as possibly the new best player in town, he was the first to see the reality that he wasn’t going to always be the best, or close to it, because he’d already had a reality check being cut from the Chinese team. His conversations with his old coach after the tournament each year were so human and vulnerable. He matured a lot from the first year, becoming a mentor/coach/role model of a sort to his teammates, while also making a point to spend more time with his mother and enjoy his life.
shrapnullify I have seen "reviews" of people on youtube saying they dropped the anime because it looked like "shit". The sad thing is, most anime fans think like this, they just want the same fucking manga style in all their animes, and harem loli girls, its pretty sad...
Reltoxeus Wouldn't that actually be synonymous with saying that the overall quality of Anime is dropping as a means to appeal to the ever growing casuals? Most shows are promotional works for the original material so I'd go as far to say the deterioration of Anime goes deeper then what we see on the screen. The medium and the source material it draws on is slowly becoming more and more diluted with third rate stories that pander to the lowest common denominator.
Kinda random but when Wenge was feeling homesick & began reminiscing about his mother giving him candy as he was aboard the train & then he began to burst into tears got me man.
i watched this anime in 2023 for the first time bcs a friend of mine advice me to watch it , i dont regret it, a ery strabge anime but full of humanity and real important things that can help u save urself and other in life until death. really master piece
Just finished watching this series. Absolutely incredible, and is surely extremely underappreciated. Definitely one of, if not the best, anime of 2014.
I just finished it too, so much substance in so few episodes! In my top 10 anime for sure out of the ~80 I've fully completed by now. This song is also fantastic.
I remember I had watched The Tatami Galaxy (work of art btw) and was looking for other animes with this style. God I'm so glad I stumbled upon this masterpiece.
meteorologist15 This is more than luck tho It's been several months dude (almost a year I think) Certain anime that arent as popular (this applies to all unpopular or extremely old media actually) dont get copyright spammed as much as say a Space Dandy or AoT etc. who are much more strict with their "fair-use" policies So basically the company either doesn't care or doesn't have the money/industy-pull to do something like that This isn't getting taken down any time soon man lol
"Remember that old comment" - when the OP's actual comment is from 5 years ago.... It's been 6 years and the video is still going strong and I hope it does. This will invoke so much nostalgia.
+comfortable coffin I guess you could view it that way but I just saw its core message as playing sports being most importantly about the love of the game before any other motivation you have to play, whether it be for prestige, the approval of others, or what have you. So really it's about all sports rather than none.
