Was at this gig,a 16 yr old noob in a conspicuously new-looking Afghan coat.Got blissfully hammered and danced like a loony... rIP Larry, fly free, you legend.
Rock n roll hall of Fame has fuck all to do with Rock n Roll - who wants 'acceptance'? Rock n Roll is not about belonging. for fucks sake, what kind of idiot wants to 'belong to the club'? Speaking as someone who actually played with these guys. brieflyI say fuck that shit - YES they deserve recognition, but NO the last thing they need is acceptance. Rebellion is not about wanting to fit in for fucks sake.
@@slimtimslide In rough terms but absolutely true. There are quite a few of these bands that didnt give a fuck about fame, they just wanted to do their own thing and did it well. I'm grateful for that as without the world of music wouldnt be the same.
Only 19 years old at this gig & still 40 years later it is still a life event We had a nightmare trip 3 months earlier for Hawkwind faireis gig nearly froze to death before got inside to onlyhalf full gig.Long trip in UK manchester to london must have cost us $5 ish
The tapes were really fucked up, it's a minor miracle any of it got out - there are a couple of out-takes that nearly made the LP but the rest was hopeless recording wise... a really fun gig but the earlier reformation gig was better musically.
Top stuff. They're were probably most" influencing band of the70 s till now.at least in what they left inheritance.. from oasis to motorhead to buxzcocks in a way.. tunefull noise merchants.. New album out I saw.. but things change..this tracks the ultimate!!
Sorry i have no idea,i didnt see them in the 70s (younger generation) but they were they still doing pubs and clubs in the early 80s and i got to see them at the Cliffs pavilion, they were in the lower bar and had set up in front of the toilets so to pay a visit you had to walk around them, they were very friendly and spent a lot of time chatting with the audience during numbers,it was rather funny and was more like a party than a gig and the odd bum note here and there added to the entertainment.
Man, when that wah-wah guitar solo comes in that's just the slickest, sexiest-soundin' shit I ever heard. I can just picture this skinny, sharp-dressed black dude from the seventies coming to deliver Lou Reed his drugs. Then, that second break where you can hear him go "one, two, three" and the guitars come roaring in behind him. HELL, YES
Happy Belated 60th birthday to me Wish I had a Fairies Concert to go to! Slum it with my beloved Fort Lauderdale Strikers & a late night jam Mustang bass revisited????
One way to remember is to try to replay the journey you took to get to the venue,on the downside i just recalled sleeping in a scratch built bivvy in a tiny wood in the pouring rain after missing the last train back from a hawkwind side project and walking out into a thunderstorm around 2.30am after ASFs 'extended' gig at the astoria and finding the car gone...i think ill stop now.
your memories more vivid than mine! Wish had kept a diary, so much forgotten but too busy doing stuff - at least we had cameras so the photos trigger off some recollection! Blue Horses another friendly band, talented wild celtic rock but always had time for the audience and happy to oblige with autographs, unfortunately disbanded now...
depends how far you want to go back i guess..... worthing, brighton, cheltenham, bournemouth, vancouver, aldershot, various raf camps... but let's just call it west london, particularly notting hill/grove.
sANDY BEST SONG EVERgREATEST EVER WAITING FOR MY MAN bLAGKIE & lARRY BOTH GO APE SHIT ON THIS lOVE WHAT i CALL THE CASCADE GUITARS JUST JUST FLOWS SO GOOD BEST SONG EVER BY BEST BAND EVER! imho!
funny you say that, the sound was awful on the live tapes and almost didnt come out at all - shame coz the 'missing songs' were brilliant too (3/5 Mile in 10 seconds, Do It etc etc). It took a lot of effort to restore the sound for release... the gig in feb of that year was actually better than this one in my opinion but they were both a riot. Up the Pinks! (the sound on this upload seems better than my CD or vinyl, weird...)
Lex and 125 it lives on in 1990 I would stop by get a bundle of Crazy Eddie aka pcp2 hit a show dope moved downtown the good of boys of Norfork street want a history lesson COUNT WALTER VON VOLUME LESDEMONS OF CBGBS FAME.
When this came out, it got a terrible review in Kerrang, a music paper at the time dedicated to heavy rock. Myself and a pal sent a letter off slagging off the reviewer, really, really ripping into him. We printed it on pink toilet paper on a type writer and put it in a pink envelope. Using my dad’s John Bull printing kit, we stamped “Pink Fairies fan club” all over the garish pink envelope. The letter ended with- “the reason this is printed on toilet paper is because you talk a load of sh*te! To our amazement, it was duly printed in the letters page of the next edition!😁🤣😂 I wish I had a copy of the magazine still, I know my mate kept a copy but the chances of him still having it after all these years is rather slim.☹️
The perspective of the narrator is off in parts of the song. But other than over-analyzing the lyrics as sung here, this is a great cover. Does Lou justice.
Truthfully, Sandy rarely got the verses in the right order - it drove Farren mad when he sang with them. It's part of the charm as far as I'm concerned - Sandy had been singing this with the Deviants too, from before the VU album came out!
