DAVID GILMOUR with ROGER WATERS『Rehearsal 』 from『Remember That Night』at The Royal Albert Hall 2006 I'm sorry that the subtitle is English only :( Love PINK FLOYD Forever ♪
Yet they show respect & are trying to work past their difference while sharing a moment with one another along the way. Many know the issues, True respect & maybe even a little bit of appreciation was on display that day.
David Gilmour seems to be one of the most polite, humble and approachable musicians in music history. Never once heard a bad thing about him. I find it crazy to believe that he still holds a grudge after all these years.
Waters was especially arrogant towards Rick and Nick before the big split. I can't blame him for not even wanting to clap eyes on a man who made him miserable and sacked him from the band.
@@scudger99 Yes I 100% agree. Waters seems like a very difficult person to be around. Based on stuff I've read about him over the years he seems to take issue with almost everything.
@@SophieLovesSunsets I remember an interview with Waters a few years ago and he admitted he was very arrogant at times when he was younger. He's definitely mellowed with age, but I think his treatment of his 2 bandmates drove a wedge between him and the rest of the band that will never fully be removed. There will always be that awkward distance between them, with Waters knowing now that he was out of order but being unable to change the past. Some wounds run too deep and never fully heal. They did surprise me by re-uniting for one off gigs though, I never envisioned that happening.
I think Waters needs Gilmour more than vice versa, and Gilmour is expecting the apology but Waters is too arrogant/stubborn/something else to do that. At the end of the day, they're two very different personalities and that just has to be accepted. Waters came into his own and should continue to be what he is, and that just happens to not be compatible with Gilmour so why try and force it? They were compatible in a band before Water discovered himself and it worked really well, but that's as far as it goes.
The Lennon/McCartney story all over again. Sometimes there is simply too much talent within the confines of a band for that band to continue as an entity. Combine that conflict with different ideas and styles, and you have a break up just waiting to happen. And then, when you factor in absolutely enormous egos, the inevitable occurs. "Fuck you, mate!" "No, no, mate... fuck *you!* " Sad to see, even tragic, perhaps. But just another of those deeply complex and rather ironic realities of our pathetically frail humanity.
I don't agree with either of you here. Rogers first contemporary was Syd. Bounced off each other from kids. Dave Gilmore quite frankly was the Charlatan. Used skullduggery. Furthered his career. Roger went along with the rest in getting rid of Syd in a terribly underhanded way. Syd has influenced generations of different genres of music in different decades. He only had two years work in him. Incredible. David credits Syd with being far more gifted than he but he's never said sorry. Roger has said sorry. Make of that what you will
@@steffanhoffmann8937 David was the one who stepped up to produce syds albums and made the mish mash that was syds performances work through his spliceing and dicing in the studio. He was also the one who insured syd songs were on any compilations that came out so insuring syds estate a % of the royalties. When roger....frankly couldnt give a fuck
Sames.... David, Roger and Nick.... I'd give up my Multistrada to see/hear that. Well, maybe something else... 😆👍 C'mon guys forgive ❤ each other and do one last tour... Or... do a RU-vid concert.... That would be Totally Wicked....
Looking at the body language at 0:45 you can see that Roger was anticipating the coldest shoulder from David, and David tried mildly to break the ice with a pat on the arm hoping for a handshake from Roger.
Over what, song choices, politics? You got one chance to get it right . They got it right then fucked it off like a couple of school girls . (no offence, girls)
Richard Wright playing the keyboards "Echoes" And no one sings me lullabies And no one makes me close my eyes So I throw the windows wide And call to you across the sky
My two most favorite artists in the world. I cannot emphasize enough on how they have impacted my music experience. I believe Pink Floyd is a separate branch of music.
Pink Floyd is a separate life energy, all unto itself. They are a life force who have had an indelible effect on my life. It's just The Floyd, it defies experience.
I don't claim to know any of these guys to any degree of detail but Gilmour, though always pleasant, is aloof and seems always to be mildly annoyed and fed up with whatever is at hand. Waters comes across as an in-closet narcissist needing in the minimum to be acknowledged. This is a toxic mix. These guys should never be left alone in the same room. The fact is these guys are absolute legends so even their idiosyncrasies is a pleasure for mere mortals like us to experience but they don't see each other as legends, just an old friend who's difficult as hell to put up with now.
@Luke Austin comes across = appears to be "appears" implies an onlooker who in this case is me. So in essence, I'm just saying how he appears in my eyes.
Perhaps it was meant to be this way but it's still sad to see so much tension between two genius musicians who created some magical and amazing music together.
You read the situation all wrong. You can tell they are both bashful to see each other. Both know they have been cocks to one another in the past but there is still parts of them that care for and respect the other. You've never had tiffs with friends before?
This conversation could have been like: Hi! What are you playing on the other side? Come on Roger, bring your instrument, let's play our old tunes together!! And then Pink Floyd reunites and goes on a world tour and everybody would be very happy!! :)
They're both old they're both knocking on heavens door and they still can't let their egos go.. Something you wouldn't expect from someone who play in a band like Pink Floyd, human beings are so strange.
I can totally get how relationships break down (especially artistic partnerships) but if ever there were two people who the universe should bring back together for the greater good it's these two legends. 😔
Roger doesn't deserve hate from the fans, his music is amazing and the lyrics he wrote are something that goes straight to the heart and speak to you, he's a great artist
"I've Become Uncomfortably NUMB". Seemed quite awkward, forced smiles. So tragic, there was so much more music inside them the world would have cherished.
Yeah, but it’s been all in Dave’s control not letting Roger sing and having another bass player. Pretty pathetic.

@@jeffaxman799 Roger left the band dont forget that.. He is not a member of the band, he may have had a huge influence in writing the songs but he left the band, simple as that..
The loss of Pink was a game changer, but when Roger fell out with Floyd and the others they were done..............and now Roger Waters is a footnote, and a running joke.
They have been through so much together: having to witness Syd Barrett's breakdown, surviving for a few years for just pocket money while making incredible albums, then the commercial breakthrough with "Dark side of the moon" which catapulted them into the serious major league, then having to see this behemoth called Pink Floyd growing in legend and size, until it got wrenched apart by egos and in-fighting. It is as though they have been through a war together until one of them switched sides as it was about to end.....what a finale!
@@Fireman-tj5iz Yes, I thought their hug was a big thing for two posh British guys from that era. People are judging it based on their own perception of friendliness.
Wow, none of us, NONE OF US, can know and/or feel what goes on between those two amazing creative geniuses after sooooo many years. They are, both British, so politeness and being cordial is part of their being. As a Pink Floyd fan since the mid 70's this video really warmed my heart.
You mean to each other? I know that Gilmore was also polite and friendly to his fans. This was not the case with Waters who acted often very unfriendly, eve rude and sometimes a little bit arrogant. Apparently he was reportedly told fans to 'f**k off' at a live show in London.
They even played Live together once in a while, After the one-off Reunion with Pink Floyd in 2005. Now they hit each other in their heads again. Come on! Please say sorry to one another, shake hands, Because someday you are gonna die and don't have a chance to reconnect your relationship.
Twas an evening baked in the dry summer heat, when, in my eye's periphery, I caught sight of something Pink. Broken and contused, with more than a hint of eternal separation.......
Oh I wish these 2 could make up and put their differences aside it’s so sad I feel for both of them… I’m sure deep down they love and respect each other … it’s that damn pride and ego thing that trips all of us from time to time …. Can you imagine if they were to put their differences aside and then go out and have a few beers together … I think they know that life’s too short … they are both intelligent and amazing guys … guys it’s not too late you ain’t dead yet …. Come in give it a go.
Looked uncomfortable indeed but at least they were pleasant Such a wonderful duo and contributed some unforgettable music together Guess time doesn't always heal all the hurt - but the music remains superb
It was sad for me to watch this clip. While none of us will ever truly know the reason(s) for their seeming discomfort with one another, it reminds me of just how much the human condition can cause man to lose sight of the the great accomplishments they once had, or made together. I could not help but think to myself that Rogers and Gilmour look like two broken Parts of what was once a great Sum. I truly love Pink Floyd, and I am grateful that I was alive to experience their art. Man, I really love their music!
The time to repair the damage is way passed. Roger, my god hes a phenominal musician, but his ego royally fucked everything they ever built, if he had shown an ounce of moral character and compassion, came to his senses, climbed off his I AM PINK FLOYD kick and his high horse and apologized for his super inflated ego ruling while Rick Wright was still alive, there might have been some bit of hope if he could've shown he was able to let the band as a whole run the show as opposed to just trying to grab the reigns and run free. Gilmour might have gave him one last chance, but people like Gilmour understand once you get past a certain point in your life, you don't really change all that much, and hell if you're gonna put yourself through some of the same shit just knowing its going to run its course much as it already has. As much as I love each as a whole as well as separately, there just is no reconciliation under some circumstances. Rogers ego might die when hes on his deathbed, but even as much as he obviously regrets what hes done, his pride is still too tough to swallow. You could see David looking for it but Roger just stiffening up and only able to bring himself to offer a hug as an olive branch. Sorry lad its deserving of a bit more work on your part than that.
I think there is a point in a relationship when you know that "leopards do not change their spots, they just disguise them well". Roger Waters is Roger Waters ! !
Ive met Roger briefly had a relationship with his daughter India to this day we are still friends. Its ashame but 2 things 1 Only they know the truth Ive worked in the music industry all my life when you become that big that much of a money machine the pressure the leeches the yesmen .Only Rolling stones last to this day. 2 The band gave us some mindblowing music thabkyou so much .You owe us absolutely nothing
I’m a strictly Syd Barrett era fan and not having a dog in this fight between Roger and Dave, Pink Floyd would not have continued without Roger. He was the driving force for the band after Syd went downhill. He kept the ship afloat and Dave helped regain the stability they lost once Syd left. But I appreciate both Roger and Dave for keeping the band active and relevant for so long. I look at their separation like a marriage between two people that are growing apart and we can blame one or the other, but they weren’t meant to stick around together after a certain period of time. Sometimes relationships have a shelf life. I hold no ill feeling towards either of them. They chose their path and they became successful.
Pink Floyd flourished after Syd left. And Pink Floyd literally did continue after Roger left and they went on to make one of their best albums The division bell.
I'm a Syd era fan too. But the fact that it was Dave (Syd's replacement) who worked with Syd on his solo records that did the most to try and get him back on track. With deeds, not words.
Man that's a really powerful video. I absolutely love pink Floyd and imo are the greatest band ever. I have wonder what music they would have made if they stayed together. But we wouldn't have all the great songs post Roger.
Met my old bandmate near the studio The sun was shining though I grieved I stole behind him in the parking lot And I touched him on the sleeve Couldn't see each others' face at first But then our eyes flew open wide He went to hug me, to expel the curse And we laughed but on th' inside We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to now And tried to reach beyond the emptiness But neither one knew how Said he was eager with his brand new band Who kept his creative levels high He would've liked to say he loved them more But he didn't like to lie I said the years had been a friend to him And that his eyes were still as blue But in those eyes, I wasn't sure if I Saw doubt or gratitude He said he saw me in the record stores And that I must be doing well I said, "The newer stuff was heavenly But I'd rather Run Like Hell" We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to now And tried to reach beyond the emptiness But neither one knew how We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to TIME We've ticked away the moments that make up Another auld lang syne TIME was passing, and our tongues were tired And running out of things to say He gave a kiss to my sweet Polly girl And I watched him walk away Just for a moment, I saw Abbey Road And felt the old familiar pain And as we turned to make our way back home The sun turned into rain
Pink floyd could be pink floyd without Gilmour -Waters. Waters is an Idiot. -Gilmour. Is like see two little children fight. -Mason. I would like play in live, like old times, with the guys. -Wright. I wish the group, my friends, make good stuff, they are marvelous doing music and things. -Barret.
Roger put that very badly, but he was the driving force in the years after Syd imploded. Waters was the lyricist, and the main contributor to the music itself. In a group like Zeppelin, lyrics do not mean as much. In a group like Pink Floyd, lyrics mean much, much more. Gilmour's guitar was essential to Floyd's sound in the years after Syd left, but without Waters, no Floyd. Without Gilmour, a diluted Floyd could have existed.
@dread true how could you say Waters is bad _musically_ when he _musically_ composed the majority of their songs in the 70s? Roger wrote more _music_ than any other member of the band.
They can't possibly forget all the good memories they have together and they should finally make peace and reunite for the best reunion concert of the history of classic rock!
Well they didnt punch eath other :-) Both of them wish for a kind of union/friendship. Roger just does´nt have that inner peace like David and that, I think, is the biggest reason for his hidden anger.. So no one is bad.. its just life i guess..
David has been the one standing in the way of Floyd reforming since live 8. Even then it was Roger who picked up the phone. I prefer them apart anyway, but it's not down to Roger that they remain so.
It’s weird.. them meeting in the middle alley of a film studio is giving me strong “wish you were here” cover vibes.. especially given their relationship and rogers “fiery” persona
All Rodger had to do is step into Gilmour's rehearsal studio and say lets jam. Besides they were rehearsing his songs. Kind of sad to see its just a business. Much love to the PINK FLOYD family.
Buddha Joe Coughlin I heard ‘Echoes’, ‘Breathe’ and ‘Comfortably Numb’, which are not entirely Waters’ songs. He wrote the lyrics for these three songs, but didn’t have anything to do with the music... I think that Gilmour only played one song in his solo tours that is entirely credited to Waters, and that would be ‘Money’. All the other songs are credited to Syd Barrett, Gilmour and Waters or Waters and Wright (like ‘Us and them’). For example (Remember that Night-dvd), David played ‘Shine on’, credited to Gilmour, Waters and Wright, ‘Fat Old sun’, credited to Gilmour alone, ‘Coming back to life’, credited to Gilmour alone, ‘High hopes’, credited to Gilmour and his wife Polly Samson, ‘Echoes’, which is a ‘Wright, Gilmour, Waters, Mason’ song, ‘Wish you were here’, credited to Gilmour and Waters, ‘Arnold Layne’ (Syd Barrett), Comfortably Numb (Gilmour, Waters), Breathe (Gilmour, Waters, Wright) and Time (Waters, Wright, Mason, Gilmour)
They are but they just aren’t the same without Roger. Don’t get me wrong I prefer Gilmours solo work over Rogers but Pink Floyd is roger, Richard, David and nick powered by the spirit of syd
literally just walked through the door. Saw Roger at Madison Square Garden tonight. Awesome show. I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd at Giants stadium in 94. Man I wish these guys would just get back together ❤️.
David Gilmour, such a warm and humble human being imho. One of those guys who made me wanna play the guitar. Music is only music but life is the meaning of our existence in space and time. And our time is like a musical piece - it will end at some point and arrogance and envy will become meaningless. It’s their private thing really and I could not judge. From what I see as a fanboy, David has really much warmness for me and he seems to be a happy individual who carried on with his life. While Roger comes across as restless and driven always critizing and angry. He would know why. Cheers.
After all the years together and subsequent separation it's time to stop the douchbagery and enjoy your success and life journey you were on together. Time/Life is fleeting. Thanks for all the fantastic music and shows.
Long time coming! These guys all make a soundtrack to our lives. They have a love for each other that will overcome money and ego. When that happens..watch out. We will be blown away again!!
When I saw the title of this video I thought this would be some new footage and I really looked forward to see these two men greeting each other with some kind of "warmth", if it's even possible in this case. I don't know how they're getting along nowadays or if they are in connection with each other at all, but Dave and Roger reminded me of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, somehow. I truly wish my best to both of them and I am forever grateful for their life-changing music.
Two amazing musicians in their own right not to mention what they did with Floyd! Don't know any of them personally ( unfortunately!) but still makes me sad that two people who have gone through so much together and created so many works of utter genius, dont talk or colaberate anymore #davidgilmour #rogerwaters #pinkfloyd
