This song is indeed a masterpiece, and the video was SUPERB too :) Can't watch it without crying !!! :) And I even appreciate more now than ever, getting older, looking back at stuff... Anyway you are RIGHT :)
Lyrics High Hopes-The Division Bell-Pink Floyd: Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young In a world of magnets and miracles Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary The ringing of the division bell had begun Along the long road and on down the causeway Do they still meet there by the Cut There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps Running before time took our dreams away Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground To a life consumed by slow decay The grass was greener The light was brighter With friends surrounded The nights of wonder Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again Dragged by the force of some inner tide At a higher altitude with flag unfurled We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world Encumbered forever by desire and ambition There's a hunger still unsatisfied Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon Though down this road we've been so many times The grass was greener The light was brighter The taste was sweeter The nights of wonder With friends surrounded The dawn mist glowing The water flowing The endless river Forever and ever
@@mrapps135If you'll bother to notice, my comment was posted YESTERDAY. Long BEFORE the video even played. So there's no "gotcha" moment like you expected. Proud of yourself now?
As I get older , this song just takes more meaning. The Division Bell is such an underrated album , Keep Talking, Lost for Words and High Hopes are probably my 3 favorites of the album.
I should laugh, I should cry. But I decided to take it in with stoic serenity. This song has created a soundtrack in my life, for memorable moments, for crossroads, for milestones. It has meant something and everything; depending on the era, or occasion. The emotions are fading, life continues, but the song remains the same.
This amazing song was the perfect ending to the Division Bell album. I still remember to this day when I bought the album, got home listened to it from start to finish and when this song ended I was just in Awe, was like being hit in the soul with rainbow coloured grasp of air, transportating my inner self to a cloud in space and then suddenly returning to earth only to realize the song was over.
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition There's a hunger still unsatisfied Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon Though down this road we've been so many times
"High hopes is one of the best Pink Floyd songs" Nick Mason. I underrated this song and the whole album, I learned to aprechiate it with the time. Like a good wine, year after year it's better.
Such a wonderful song, oh I forgot, this song is created by Pink Floyd. High Hopes is a great musical creation and it will live on as a masterpiece in music. Thanks for all the great times listening to Pink Floyd in my days growing up and then getting old, wow!
TDB was released 21 years after DSOTM but even then, in 1994, DSOTM already felt like an ancient, classic album from the bygone days of the 70s. In musical terms, 21 years seemed a significant span of time in 1994. 2024 marks 30 years since the release of The Division Bell, but this passage of time feels shorter compared to the DSOTM and the release of TDB. 30 years before TDB in 1964, Pink Floyd even didn’t exist. Time’s a funny old thing isn’t it. No one told you when to run, etc
I LOVE this comment. You perfectly encapsulated tye great paradox of time. I was 14 when this came out and it's impact on me was enormous. My father had this cassette and DSOTM and both were responsible singlehandedly for me picking up the guitar. All my friends were knee deep into grunge and Floyd were looked as dinosaurs at the time. It really is tragic that they never really put it back together for another album.
@@espojespo5 “In 1981, the 1960s seemed much further away than they do today. Since then, cultural time has folded back on itself, and the impression of linear development has given way to a strange simultaneity.” Mark Fisher.
@@CapeWearingSchmuck That was more of a Rick Wright tribute which was just extra material recorded during the Division Bell sessions, so it hardly counts as a Pink Floyd album in my books (despite being a good album)
@@line_spring It was not all extra material recorded during the Division Bell sessions. That’s a misnomer. Obviously Rick’s contributions were recorded earlier, and much of the material had a basis in 1993, but very little of that stuff existed in any kind of finished “song” format at that time. It would be more accurate to say they took Richard’s noodlings and concepts from 1968 and 1993 and built songs around them in 2013-2014. A few of the tracks existed in rough song format in ‘93, but not the majority. They spent a lot of time in the studio in 2013-2014 for TER, and most of what you hear, save Rick’s stuff is newly recorded. Some of the stuff has no connection, recorded or concept wise, to 1993/TDB at all.
