papastache you are a hundred percent right about David Gilmour, I'm a self tought player and just recently put down the acoustic and picked up the electric. that being said I had no idea where to start, I did know that Gilmour was my favorite guitar soloist so I began there. anyhow I've learned about four of his best solos now including this one just now and it has helped me so much. when just free playing now I can incorporate all the diffrent techniques I've learned and sometimes create some pretty impressive stuff if say so myself lol but a lot of my progression comes from videos you've made along with other in RU-vid so thank you papa I really appreciate what you do, thank man.

at 6:53 how are you strumming or picking the strings, You are plucking G-11 then you are rolling your finger on B-10 and E-10? I wish I could slow it down to see better, This is the only part of the song I have problems with, otherwise, its the best video I have found for this song, thanks!

Thanks. Back then I am not sure what I was running through. For an amp it was probably a Divided by 13 BTR23 or JRT9/15. and I used a MD409 mic to capture the sound. As far as pedals go I am not sure what I was using.

What album is the live version on? Tone wise the Darkside pedal from Keeley is an all in one Floyd in a box solution. Also the Dover Drive from Lovepedal or the Wren and Clef stuff is great for the distortion and the the Catlinbread echorec nails the delay tones. Those would be great places to start. He uses tons of gear so getting it exact might be tough and of course having his hands wouldn’t hurt haha! Thanks for watching!

Did Larry Carlton play this solo? I read a long time ago that Carlton was called in by Roger Waters to play some solos on The Wall. And to my ears this solo sounds way more articulate than whatever Gilmour can conjure - but I'm biased, I think this dude is an asshole -. Only live video I can find, he relies a lot on the tremolo bar, which I'm not hearing in the album version. Gilmour's an okay guitarist, but he may not have the nice seasoned vibrato Carlton has. Can anyone shed light on this very unsavory topic...
