“Pigs (Three Different Ones)” is the second part of the three-song cycle on Animals (bookended by “Pigs On The Wing” parts one and two). Having already introduced the “dogs”, who elevate and enrich themselves at the expense of others, this song describes three “pigs” who perpetuate injustice and hardship whilst maintaining their grip on power. The use of the word “pig” as a slang term for the police in many English-speaking countries is coincidental. The lyrics do not describe law enforcement but politics; an allusion to the porcine characters in George Orwell's novel Animal Farm, which served as inspiration for Animals. The pigs in Orwell's story put on the façade of benign leaders whilst exploiting the fears of the other farm animals (the proletariat) to settle personal scores and further their own interests. Naturally, this leads only to broken promises and oppression. Each of the three “pigs” in the song symbolizes a political figure or archetype in mid-1970s Britain, whose policies, activities or views were considered objectionable by the lyricist, Roger Waters. Of the three figures described in the song, only the conservative morality campaigner Mary Whitehouse is directly identified in the 3rd verse. The 2nd verse is more obscure but suggests an implicit diatribe towards "the iron lady" Margaret Thatcher, a rising figure in politics at the time, but still on the side of the (opposition).
For those who may not know about Mary Whitehouse, below I’ll post a brief summary about her. Pink Floyd (especially Waters), was very enraged over her bullshit. The Animals album is such an anti establishment set of music, it is understandable why so many in the mainstream hated it so. Here is a bit about Mary Whitehouse> The infamous campaigner Mary Whitehouse is one of history’s losers. Born in 1910, she never let go of her Edwardian sensibilities, even as the society she knew collapsed around her ears. She spent 37 years organising letter-writing campaigns in an effort to halt the arrival of what she called the ‘permissive society’, horrified as she was by the displays of sex and violence that suddenly appeared on British television screens from the 1960s onwards. A contemporary of Whitehouse’s described her in The Financial Times as a “little Canute, exhorting the waves of moral turpitude to retreat”. She didn’t campaign for change, she campaigned for stasis. And she failed utterly, in a grand display of public humiliation. This is why I’ve loved Pink Floyd since the 60’s! They have always been ahead of the game musically, philosophically and intellectually. Rock on
Based loosely on Orwells Animal Farm. Pigs=Ruling class Politicians Waters in particular got quite political with his music, The Final Cut album pretty much a protest album against Thatcher. He left Floyd and came out with a solo political themed album Radio Chaos.
The main building on the Animals cover, is not a dogs home.. There is a building next to it that is. The main building is being renovated as apartments etc 🇬🇧

Ok, I watch a lot of these "first listens" as I find it fascinating to watch a young person hear the music I grew up on. I like to hear how it made them feel and think. David, I think you work hard on your intro music production and maybe a little on what your about to react to and then nothing........you offer nothing as far as a reaction of any kind. Like you just want to play your intro and be on RU-vid. I think your a poser. But I'm 58 so maybe I'm not you target audience but I should be....needs work kid. Watch some of the other first listens. Hey marc, I'm 57 meself and also grew up on this music. I see where you're coming from with the reaction. What I got from the video is the reaction while Floyd is playing. His enjoyment was what I was looking for. I find others who listen quietly and then give a big spiel about what they researched does nothing for me. I think David's reaction during the masterpiece tells a lot. Just my reaction to this video lol. Cheers brother
@@GedUKIn my opinion I'm well versed on music. Unfortunately Rap isn't music it a Duff Duff noise. Good music stands the test of time I doubt anyone will remember a duff duff track in 60 years time. But hey if you like duff duff thats your prerogative and its also my opinion likewise yours

@@GedUK like ive stated its a matter of opinion. I like ALL genre's of music even the odd duff duff track. Good music stands the test of time and crosses all generations. You cant say the same for Rap
