It was released in '68, so the 60's vibe is genuine.

You are not the only one not to reconcile the fact that Pink Floyd started out in the 60s and that there was Floyd before Meddle. It was different, more spacey, more trippy and smothered live in a mess of gell projections that made it seem like they were playing in a lava lamp.

David Gilmour has often characterized the " pre-Meddle" Pink Floyd albums as mostly "psychedelic noodling". He's not saying that he did not enjoy early PF, just that he felt that they hadn't quite hit their stride yet. Both Richard Wright and Gilmour both stated that "Wish You Were Here" was their favourite PF album. Personally, I really love all of Pink Floyd's albums from "Meddle" (1971) through to "The Division Bell" (1994) EXCEPT for "The Final Cut" which for better or worse, I consider to be more of a Roger Waters solo album.

I remember a Spring day in Paris, April 1987. In highschool, we went there for a week just before final exams. I was suffering from depression - ADHD hadn't been "invented" yet, and definitely not for high-functioning highly intelligent people like me. We visited a gigantic record store. That's where I bought my first PF vinyls. (I had bought some ELO the year before, and also bought a turntable in the summer of 86.) I think I must have drunk a bottle of wine every day we were there. With my medication (it was before SSRIs were invented), I was truly in an altered state of mind. Right now the memories are flooding my brain, like a tsunami. I don't remember if I had heard old PF before, but I don't think so. And of course I couldn't listen to my new records until I was home again. Even so, they remain some of my dearest souvenirs from that trip. One was the double album A Nice Pair (Nice double entendre name! 😂) combining Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and A Saucerful Of Secrets. Another was Obscured By Clouds. I love these far more than albums like DSOM, Wish You Were Here, or The Wall. (And there are still older albums, like Ummagumms, Atom Heart Mother and Meddle that I haven't heard. It's good to have a reserve. Animals, maybe. I might ignore the albums after the Wall... ) Maybe tomorrow I should buy a fresh baguette and some cheap "la vache qui rit" brie or camembert, and open a bottle of red and put some PF on. Yeah, sounds like a good idea. Although its chilly as fuck in DK right now, Spring is in the air, and I'm mad as a March hare. ❤

Hah, I grew up listening to this through the wall of my brother's room. He had the ubiquitous black light posters and mood enhancers. This one is a beatles-influenced one and it captures the feeling of the era. But I assure you, it's best when heard outdoors while watching the universe pass in the night sky.

If you’re wondering why this song is missing the insane guitar play it’s because David Gilmour wasn’t with the band yet. This was still the Syd Barrett era.

I've been a Pink Floyd fan since 1973 and a Brain Squeeze fan for about 6 months. I've really enjoyed watching your reactions to the music and watch you become a Pink Floyd fan. I hope that there is much more to come. I know there are times when one needs a break from Pink Floyd, but still need to listen to something to relax and mellow out. I would like to recommend another group, "Carbon Based Lifeforms". Pink Floyd is "psychedelic rock/progressive rock", where Carbon Based Lifeforms is more psychedelic ambient music. I would like to recommend 2 pieces to get introduced to their sound, "Supersede and Central Plains". I hope that you enjoy their music almost as much as Pink Floyd. Of course, there is nothing like Pink Floyd. Keep on reacting and don't hurt yourself. I'm looking forward to more.

Paint Box is probably my favourite of the solely Wright compositions. He did other stuff later on more collaboratively (like Us and Them - with Roger and Great Gig - "with" Claire, and of course Echoes) that's better but of the just him, Paint Box just fantastic.

I also have ADHD (gave it to my son as well....sorry kiddo) but an absolute masterpiece that will fit any crazy brain is The Song Remains the Same, 1st track on Houses of the Holy......check it out, you'll love it!

Hahaha,... I was just thinking about you recently , wondering when you were going to do another Pink Floyd reaction, and here you are! Although Pink Floyds 1970s and 80s compositions are without question their best music, and the reason they became multi, multi, millionaires, it's fun to hear their early stuff once in a while. As long as it's once in a while,..... Lol!

Just when we thought you'd abandoned us! This is indeed their second album, but also the first largely without Syd Barrett [ The 'Crazy Diamond' ]. Syd had been the lyricist & principle vocalist in the early days. This features Rick [Richard] Wright, the keyboard player as the first voice. The second voice [ Why......? ] is bass player Roger Waters. Later, guitarist Dave [David] Gilmour became the principle vocalist, although he would often sing harmony with Rick [ see 'Echoes' ]. Sometimes Roger would sing, because it provides a slightly harsher vocal contrast ['One of my turns' ] . 'Comfortably Numb' at Pulse shows Dave & Rick singing the two different vocal parts, but on the original album, the 'Is there anybody in there .... ?' lines were sung by Roger. All three have distinct but characteristic qualities. It's worth learning to recognize the different voices, to uncover the extra textures they are playing with.
