Well I am so glad that Amy, did not “Run like hell” from Rock music and that now, 134k followers later we are all enjoying this blast from past, when she bravely take the challenge that Roger and Pink’s have threw to her. Keep on good work Amy, kiss the little one, and all respect for Vlad the Man ✌️

Can't wait to reach "The Trial". Anticipating Amy's suprise face expressions at 1st listen reaction video, that's going to be real fun. And , later, to enjoy her thoughts on the song that brings Pink's journey to an end in the deep analysis video. Her analysis and interpretations have made one of my favorite albums ever to be even more so.

Every now and then a professional guitarist plays something that catches the attention of guitar players around the world. In this case is was David Gilmour's lead parts on Run Like Hell, the parts just before the 'run' sections. The chiming guitar chops are created by using not one but two delay units (the first set to 380ms and 7-8 repeats, the second set 507ms but quieter). This created that cascading delay sound and it was something that hadn't really been tried up until that point. Nowadays, this song is famous among guitar players for being the origin of that particular sound.

Makes my weekend when Amy returns to Floyd! Looking forward, may I suggest Dark Side of the Moon in 2 sessions. Should be manageable and you can’t really break that album up more than that without losing something. Amy’s take on DSOTM is long overdo considering it’s a true cornerstone of rock, etc. from an influential perspective. Very different than The Wall. Thanks, again, for the journey!

The second verse, despite its gruesome content, I think the second verse is one of the best written song verses ever. Not only do the words flow together, but it also created a vivid image in my mind of a car parked in the woods with a couple making out, then someone in uniform smashing the window and pulling the teenaged boy out and beating him (kind of like what appears in the movie, although I had this image this before I saw it), and then a blood soaked cardboard box left on a front porch for his mother to come out and find. And not just the imagery, but it made me feel what it would feel like to be every character in the verse as I pictured it. Rather uncomfortable feelings, but art should reflect the human experience, which can be very uncomfortable sometimes.

I enjoyed this fun step back into the early part of your journey, this was very early into it (October 2022? No latter than November; only a couple of months from the start), so the only song I can think of in which you might have heard a running gallup rhythm was Black Sabbath's "Black Sabbath". It is fun to consider how little rock you had heard at this point, relative to how much you were about to hear up the current point in time. Although we need more Black Sabbath, since you haven't returned to them since the beginning.😉 It will be very interesting to see the In-Depth tomorrow to see the present day Amy's look back at this, with all of your current day rock experience and insights, including into the Wall themes itself.

She did Black Sabbath "Black Sabbath" on September 24th 2022, which was likely before this was recorded)

The album came a few years before the movie. It's a bit like when they do a movie if a favourite novel - it never quite lives up to the original. I find the movie ok as an interpretation but I much prefer the album as the source material, and the images I had already built up in my imagination before the movie came out. And they change some of the music for the film, which I always find very jarring. But for those not around at the time of the album release I can understand the case for watching the movie. Just remember - this is absolutely not a soundtrack album. The album stands on its own two feet, the movie is Alan Parker's (pretty decent) interpretation.

I bet the sound you're puzzled by and remembering from other songs is the dotted 8th guitar. It was one of David Gilmour's signature techniques, using a multi head echo unit, or later, 2 Boss digital delay pedals. I think their older albums are much better and I would be curious to hear what you think, for instance, about their album "Atom Heart Mother"...specifically the 1st track "Suite", which as a classical musician might suit you (pun intended). And of course you HAVE to listen to (and make a video on) what is widely considered (amongst PF fans) to be their Magnum Opus, "Echos" from the album "Meddle". Yes, both songs are quite long but that's because they simply transcend music and become an experience, or a symphony if you like.

The reason you were surprised by the "running" notes in the score, is the score is not an accurate representation of how the sound was created. And the music here was solely by David Gilmour, Waters merely the lyrics. As indicated in the wiki entry on Run Like Hell and I quote: "The music was solely written by David Gilmour (one of three songs on The Wall for which Gilmour is credited as a co-writer), and the lyrics were written by Waters" Furthermore under Composition, the article states correctly: "As heard earlier on the album in "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 1", the muted D is treated with a specific delay setting, providing three to four loud but gradually decaying repeats, one dotted-eighth note apart, with the result that simply playing quarter notes (at 116 beats per minute) will produce a strict rhythm of one eighth note followed by two sixteenth notes, with rhythmic echoes overlapping. Over this pedal tone of D, Gilmour plays descending triads in D major (mostly D, A, and G), down to the open chord position (a quieter, second overdubbed guitar plays open chords only). Some of the guitar tracks are also treated with a heavy flanging effect. " The "running" guitar tones are created electronically with an echo or delay box, so playing a quarter note, results in a series of repeating echo notes. Your score attempts to notate this, but that is not how it's made and putting those score notes into a MIDI player would not sound like Gilmour's performance. You should watch the 1994 Pulse performance of this live, as then the full Floyd experience is in evidence, albeit after Waters left, but it's clear the music sources remained. Search for "Pink Floyd - Run Like Hell (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited)"

The weaker "Run! Run!" is Pink's inner voice telling himself to escape The Worms. Live renditions of the song are quite different, and visually impressive too, adding further intertextuallity with the rest of the work. The disco beat is no longer the march of the students into the meat grinding machine, it's now The Worms marching in lockstep. Some of the chaotic and free students have been industrially transformed into fascist officers. Other fascists are cheering their misdeeds from the sidelines.

The song is all about Pink's manifestation of his sufferings through fascist rampage toward those who are hated. In psychology it's known as transference. Hammers are the symbol of tyranny. It's well depicted in the film Pink Floyd The Wall.

I’m fairly sure you’re younger than me. But I’m getting flash backs from my sinister music teachers. Except you’re nicer and I wish I had you instead of the monsters in my school I love music. I play guitar and harmonica and a little piano. My school made me hate what I love

I think the "Run! Run! Run!" is more of a mocking tone. It's not a call to run for your life, more a matter that you've been labelled an undesirable and they're going to get you, but if you run they can at least make some sport of it. Who knows, you might even get away... for a while.

To me it feels as if the whole album cross references. A lot of recurring themes.

Album sound is poor on this, flat. Similar thing a couple of days ago, Faana Music reviewed a piece then I found Wings of Pegasus had reviewed it as well and the sound there was so much better. Why is that? Is it about the rig, the more listeners the better the rig? Don’t get me wrong, I love this reviewer.

The Beatles were the best. The Stones, the raunchiest and Pink Floyd, the most layered and complex. Thoughts?

A song like Run Like Hell is a very formulaic piece to an album type of song more so than a song meant to be analyzed as it's individual part. It would almost be like taking a single chorus or riff in a song and analyzing it on the level of it being a song in it's entirety. This song is simply an awful recommendation, whatever person or people recommended it, hopefully they have less say in the future when it comes to recommendations if they are that clueless.

These are great, but she needs to find a best-of list or something instead of going by Patreon recommendations, because the people on there are having her react to the same bands and albums over and over. Her talents are wasted on B-sides like this.

Don't get your analysis : this music is from the perspective of this extremist army, systematically destroying everything it doesn't accept. They don't have to run therefore the pace. They are so numerous that they know they will get them all. You'd better run like hell they say, knowing that even running like hell is pointless for the doomed victims. Don't over analyse on this one please :o)
