(sees Jamel reacting to PF...loads bowl) Jamel: look at those lights Lasers* When i saw them on the Division Bell tour those lasers went for miles in to the distance.
"A Momentary Lapse of Reason" is such an underappreciated album. Many dismiss it because Waters was gone but it stands on its own with other PF albums. On the Turning Away and Learning to Fly are great songs.
I worked with a guy that didn't consider Momentary Lapse of Reason to be a true Pink Floyd album because it was the first album without Roger Waters. Can't please everybody. The Turning Away is one of my favorites.
I saw the Division Bell Tour at Ohio Stadium in '94. It was surreal in that I can only remember feelings and emotions of the concert and not specific moments....could have been the 'pungent fog' floating over the field level. Still was an amazing experience.
Dude my abiding memory of the intro is feeling the seats in the front row shake and feeling like my internal organs were vibrating along with them. Probably the loudest bit of guitar I’ve ever heard out of 100+ gigs I’ve been to
Bobby Dodd stadium Atlanta, GA on the second night for me. The first night sold out immediately then they announced a surprise second performance for the next night. A classmate had just introduced me to Pink Floyd earlier that year and they have been my favorite band ever since. When the second night was announced she asked if I wanted to go with her and her friends to try to get tickets. I found myself sitting at what would have been front row seats at the 50 yard line had it been a football game watching the performance of a lifetime. It was an experience I will never forget.
This is my #1 favorite song ever. I've heard it 4,000,000,000 times and it still gets me every time. If a song or artist can make you feel emotional even after you've heard it 4,000,000,000 times then you know it is good. Thank you Pink Floyd for existing and giving us the best music!
Please reply to my comment. What is this concert and how do I look it up? I want to do this and I have a sound system in my home that can really make it good
@@russellpearce3749 This concert was recorded at Earls Court in London in October, 1994. The title of the CD and DVD of this concert is called "Pulse." Please do find it. It's awesome on a large screen with a good sound system....the next best thing to being there.
Jamel everybody talks about the solo from Comfortably Numb being the greatest solo and I agree, But this one ranks right up there with them. Also this is the same concert as the CN solo. You might also like Run Like Hell from this same show the light show in that song is awesome and it also closes out the concert.
The solos on this song are heavy, raw, uncut... but yet still soft and beautiful and focused. David is the only one that can evoke that level of emotion
No one, and I mean NO ONE, puts on a show like Pink Floyd. The production value is off the charts and the musicianship is second to none. It's truly a full mind and body experience!
Jamal, your description of the show with people sitting quietly, mouths open just trying to take it all in was exactly how it was. I was there the night after this recording and I remember looking around and seeing people just like that, and I know that I was. When those brown and green lasers were firing above our heads it was just incredible. I just love the solo in this song and especially the lyrics which are so deep, I mean how real is the line "There's a silence that speaks so much louder than words, of promises broken", genius.
There is just something about good music played live. Doesn't matter if it is Floyd in front of 100,000 or a dingy little blues dive. If it is good, it moves you.
It's well worth watching the Pulse DVD (Where this song and Comfortably Numb are from) They also play the whole of Dark Side of the Moon, live at this concert.
I believe the Delicate Sound of Thunder concert DVD (DP by the legendary David Cunningham) is by far the most mystical, magical and powerful Pink Floyd concert film
Definitely worth watching. I was lucky enough to see them on this tour in a huge outdoor stadium and it was by far the best all around concert I have been to.
I was born and raised in Fort Apache, The South Bronx. My mother was a bartender. When the man came around to change the records on the jukebox, he would put the old ones in a box, and hand them to my mother, they were considered disposable. I had every kind of music imaginable on 45s. This allowed me to hear and appreciate every kind of music that was being produced at the time(late 50s-early 60s). Everything from Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley , to Motown and the Chipmunks. It's so important to listen to different kinds of music! I so enjoy seeing you react to all the various Great Music available. Everything is on the Internet, now. Keep up the good work. Show the young Brothers and Sisters that music is not limited by race, age, or situation. You are doing a great public good! KEEP IT ALIVE!!!
The whole PULSE concert is a masterpiece and one of the best live albums of all time. They played the whole Dark Side of the Moon album concert on that album. It was so good i bought the Live double CD and DVD. The live version of Coming back to Life that you also reacted to is also from this same concert.
A sweet smell of a great sorrow lies over the land Plumes of smoke rise; merging to the leaden skies A man lies and dreams of green fields and rivers But wakes to a morning with no reason for waking... Definitely a cautionary tale
When Gilmour wrote the album this came from, he was in the middle of a nasty divorce and getting sued by former bandmate Roger Waters. This is about the turmoil in his life at the time
JAMEL PLEASE LISTEN "HIGH HOPES " LIVE AT POMPEI, I'M SURE YOU'LL LOOOOVE IT !!! I WATCH YOUR DIFFERENTS REACTS EVERYDAY AND YOU MAKE ME SMILE, YOU'RE SO COOL. THANK YOU👏😉
You can tell when a band is great when you hear them live and they sound better then a studio cut Pink Floyd is one of the few bands that are that way .
First time I heard this song, the intro, I thought Dave was revving up a chainsaw - in the most melodious way! No, it was just him revving up his guitar...par for the course! The sound quality on the entire PULSE concert set the bar for audio recordings! Everything was captured brilliantly. Not a bad song on that entire setlist! I HIGHLY recommend checking the song One Of These Days from that same concert - talk about a audio/visual mind scramble!! Great tune! Great reaction! Cheers!
He has already reviewed On The Turning Away, but I agree. Wonderful album. Gave up trying to pick out the best song on it long ago. No point. The entire thing is a peace of work that should just be marvelled at.
This is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs and it makes me so sad that so many people dismiss it since it is a post-Roger Waters track. I'm so happy to see it finally getting some love!
“These are the Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking”. Roger Waters’ solo stuff. “No Way Out” David Gilmours solo stuff. Both have thick catalog of solo works. ✌🏼
"Raise My Rent", "So Far Away" and "No Way"... You already mentioned "No Way Out Of Here". The Division Bell album is somewhat solo Gilmour.... Waters-free Floyd anyway.
My guitar teacher told me, as we studied David Gilmour, that this guy is not playing guitar, he is telling a story on his strings, that what makes him so different from the others, the scales and everything is based on a "easy fundament" but he tells the right story with this very simple and genius stuff in a way no one else can! Give David a Instrument with only a pentatonic and he can make a 20 min Solo on it that is full of the lyric like a good short story that keeps you reading till the last word.
I lived near Cincinnati at the time and saw them at UK’s Rupp Area for that tour - simply epic!! When it started and Gilmour started playing the first solo for SYD I thought I was in heaven 🤣.
I'm 66 years old, and to this day, I still enjoy the music of Pink Floyd. I remember hearing Pink Floyd for the first time in 1970. I fell in love with their music. Their concerts are epic. Their albums are epic. The younger generation today, they don't know what good music is. Back in the '70s and '80s you got your money's worth when you went to a concert. Especially a Pink Floyd concert.
It just dawned on me why people don't put Pink Floyd in their "Top" list. Pink Floyd is beyond that, some other world, and "One of my Favorite bands" just doesn't express. I agree with you though. I have two lists: My Playlist and My Top List. Sometimes that Top List doesn't fit the mood or vibe. You can't live on just Floyd alone because you deny yourself the experience of different voices. Peace, Brother Jamel.
I saw this concert twice, 2 evenings on May 23 and 24, 1994, Montreal Olympic Stadium. Some people have asked me, "Why are you going to see this show twice?" When they finally saw the video of the show, they understood why I was there twice.
At Richfield Coliseum (Cleveland) I had tickets for the first night. On the third and final night, we decided to see if we could find a scalper. Found out there were still tickets at the box office. Scored First row of the second section back, center section
I don't get the "hate" that the Endless River gets. I completely understand that it's not anyone's favorite, or it isn't as conventional as other albums. But bring up the Endless River and it brings up full blown haters. It's such a beautiful record, with amazing textures, feelings, and styles. Great album to put on and sit back, relax, chill, and enjoy the ride.
@@jamesbetts3468 I love 'Island', and 'Rattle' is great too. Endless River is just really nice when I want mood music of a floydish flavor. The last song "Louder than Words" is good, but they put a xylophone in there, and I rarely think that fits in any rock or blues music. I sometimes wince when I here the xylophone thinking "WHY?"
This is the genius of David Gilmour. He's a treasure. Check out Remember That Night live from Royal Albert Hall. It's got old Pink Floyd, newer solo stuff. It's soooooo good. Guest vocals include David Bowie, David Crosby and Graham Nash. Everyone should watch it. ✌🏻🖖🏻🤘🏻🧸
Thank you Jamel!! My husband and I were blessed to see this tour, it was incredible. I feel like it is new again seeing it through your eyes. We love watching your reactions ❤️
This has always been one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs. The guitar and bass are amazing and the way that they set the atmosphere is just amazing. Thank you for reacting to this song Jamal!
Took our daughter to this concert when she was 14. She can still tell you everything about it, the lasers, songs. Can still see it today, was such an experience! Had to see it twice!
@@aburrows2008 I commented before seeing which concert he was watching. My mistake. My vision isn't that great, so it was hard to tell at the beginning. Once the lights came on and I saw David, I realized I goofed, so I fixed it.
See enough of David Gilmour, and watch how he plays... the way he bends those notes, and feel how he also bends your soul. He's flawless. Listen to MAROONED and you'll hear what I'm talking about.
Best show I’ve been to, 1994 Yankee Stadium. Unbelievable acoustics. Sound coming at you from all sides. It was so good I had to see them again a month later in Giants Stadium. Sorrow was absolutely amazing. Laser/light show. ❤️ Pink Floyd.
Have had to buy like 4 copies of PULSE on cd since 94 just wear them out played so much. Such a Masterpiece. Live at Pompeii as well. Love your channel bro.
I’ve seen Roger Waters live, and I’ll see David Gilmore if I get the chance, but I really wish I had had the opportunity to see Pink Floyd play as a group. Also, Led Zep, Jimi, & SRV.
Love your reaction and comments man, takes me back to my teens when I first got into Pink Floyd and had my head blown apart. Bands of this calibre do not come along .every decade even. So when we hear them we need to acknowledge them, and celebrate them as you have done so well. Congrats to you man for acknowledging their brilliance.
Omg dogs of war live version is off the charts amazing and the sax man give me chills I feel like that song is base on what going on right now in the world 🌎
Hearing this live in concert is a profound experience, I can't tell you how much the bass hits your chest from a colossal wall of speakers!. It's without doubt the greatest show I've ever been to and I've been to a lotl!. One of These Days is no slouch either!. Rotterdam, Holland Sept.'94 Thank you Pink Floyd!.
I was fortunate enough to have been at the Pink Floyd Pulse concert in May 1994 which was their last tour as that group. That was the most ethereal concert I have ever attended. I am a professional musician but I must say, this concert was the best I ever seen or attended....bar none! All of the 70k attendees including me were totally mesmerized through the whole show. Cheers from Connecticut, Dave.
Love seeing your reactions to the music I grew up with. 94 saw pink floyd in Alabama legion field. Parked my car in a black resident's yard to save money and to help him. Had to go to the car to get the wife something. The man who owned the property came up to see what I was doing as he should. His mother in her night gown came running up telling us to kneel and repent for our sins because Gabriel was blowing his horn. Gilmore was playing the beginning of sorrow at that moment. I don't regret missing that because she was so precious and wanted us in heaven. Wonderful moment in my life.
