Hello everyone - I don't want any legal issues or anyone taking this down, so I won't reveal myself totally outright - but I was the director / bassist / the (hybrid with the original recording) voice of the Judge in this show. I guess I'll reveal some of the "mystery" surrounding this performance. This was a passion project from 2017 that I'd been cooking up for years, after falling in love with the album. I would spend my days in high school and college daydreaming about how to stage this thing, how it would be interpreted, where I'd pull the best elements from each incarnation of the album from... Eventually, and incredibly, all the stars aligned. After miraculously securing Roger's personal blessing (I contacted the webmaster at the Brain Damage fan website, he got me in touch with someone in Roger's management) - this show was performed at a university as part of an extra-curricular amateur theater club on campus. It wasn't a class project, these are not trained actors or singers or musicians, and there were no professors or "adults" involved - it was just a bunch of nerdy, extremely talented kids working their asses clean off. And to this day, I'm still so overwhelmingly grateful to every single person that was involved in making this dream come true. I just want to say after 3 years of having this up, it's been unreal seeing the overwhelmingly positive response. Pink Floyd fans picking up on not just the fun easter eggs, but folks saying that this show is true to the original album's content and intent is the best compliment I could ask for. I'm still proud of this show, knowing that we put it together on a literal shoestring budget and a lot of sleepless nights. I personally owe my current life to this show too. In fact the guy who plays Pink, the drummer, and I didn't want to stop playing music together after the show ran its course. So we started a band called The Toxhards, which was signed a year ago and we're now spending half each year on the road touring and recording, doing exactly what we love. You best believe we still play Comfortably Numb as a tribute to our humble beginnings in this show. I can't thank The Wall enough - the hands down greatest album of all time, and I can't thank every single one of you enough for tuning in!
I grew up with The Wall and it helps me thru the darkest time of my live. I know every note of it and I listened to many live versions including Rogers, of course. So I don't have any expectations about this adaptation but I must say this is one of the best shows of The Wall I've ever seen. You bring new live in this pice of art in the very clever arrangement of the musical parts (additional themes, duets, solos etc.) and the theatrical adaptation, that makes me wish to see this live again. Thanks for that, Rock on...
Thankyou so much for this show and giving a little bit of the background in how it came about. I have actually watched this more than Rogers Wall tour. I find this to be so much more raw and relying more on the talented cast and musicians than visuals. The ending makes me emotional. You should tour this but I know it would be hard. Thanks again.
The final message of The Wall is "You'll never walk alone", and the teamwork shown here represents it masterfully. I'm glad Pink Floyd's music keeps inspiring people to work together and make great art.
This is absolutely amazing, both the music and the interpretation of the story. Roger should watch this, I'm sure he would love it. Fantastic work, congratulations to everyone involved in this.
@@davidbreen6335 roger has (assumingly) i found an old reddit post by the guy who played bass on this show and the guy linked an hour long documentary about the show, roger gave explicit permission so id assume he did watch it
As a lifelong Floyd Fan I must say I am shocked. I was cautiously excited and skeptical about the musical and vocal implementation - and it was first-class in every note. I wondered, would it be theatrically interesting? It was brilliant in every nuance. I can hardly believe that this is an amateur performance. I've seen Waters'Wall Show live and I know every existing recording of a concert - and this one is in no way inferior to them. This adaptation deserved to go around the world. Thank you all for this event. Greetings from germany.
What a powerful, bold production. The soldiers dragging people from the audience during "In The Flesh" gave me goosebumps. Some great choices musically as well, specially the arrangement of "Bring The Boys Back Home" and "Stop" performed a capella. Kudos to all involved.
As someone who has loved, lived, and breathed the album for over 40 years, I am completely blown away! You are all the children of Roger Waters! The way you slipped in other Pink Floyd music into this adaptation without straying from the album's concept enhanced the experience even more. The only thing that could amaze me more would be if this doesn't become a big stage production. If the power was in my hands I would personally devote the rest of my life to making this be performed again and again for at least another 20+ years. What has Roger Waters said about this? This show should be toured! This video needs to go viral right now! From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for making this!
"Pink Floyd: The Wall" is not just an ordinary music-album from the greatest Rockband of all Time. It became to a legendary tour 1980 1981, a movie in 1982 a huge and unforgetable concert in 1990 in Berlin by Pink Floyd and Roger Waters. And outside of Pink Floyd direct influence it became in many recreations like theatrical adaptations as this one, concerts, fanarts and even levels or easter eggs in games like "Minecraft". "Pink Floyd: The Wall" is a goddamn phenomenon. It inspired many people back then when it was released in 1979 and keeps on inspiring many people even today. And it will always inspire people to become musicians or artists in future.
This is a fine production, personally I think Pink Floyd’s The Wall should be adopted for Broadway, if they adapted The Who’s Tommy and Green Day’s American Idiot to Broadway they should do The Wall too
Roger Waters annouced his plans of a Broadway staging of The Wall already in 2004. He also talked about it at the time of his The Wall tour. But like so many of his ideas of the past 35 years, it seems to have went to nowhere.
Goddamit its the best thing I've seen. Truly a masterpiece. I can't believe yours pulled it love. I can tell everyone involved loved that they were doing. The sound mixing was great, the oil editing, the camerawork, the musicians, the actors, the adaptation of the wall ,everything. Absolutely loved it.
Same! I searched for reactions of people watching The Wall for the first time and found this video. Just wow! I was in tears, not only because of the video itself, but also because it's crazy cool seeing young people just "get it". The Wall is complicated, but also relatable. Anyway...yes...also was in tears! Amazing!
Great bass player, fantastic band overall 17:52 Sheep! Also it has the extended Mother solo like in the live shows Great how they mix Empty Spaces and What Shall We Do Now lyrics!
Despite not having any theater experience whatsoever, it's always been a dream of mine to write a stage adaptation of "The Wall." Not only did y'all beat me to it, but y'all did a fantastic job! I was a bit apprehensive at first since "The Wall" is so personal to me, but you nailed it!
HOw HOW HOW HOW has this not been viewed more than this? My god, so damn wonderful, and the actor who also plays the solo to Comfortably Numb had me out of my chair! Bravo!
Kudos to the director. Very insightful inclusions and positioning of the extra material, e.g. Gilmour's demo. Several watches required to fully appreciate this.
OMG I burst into tears when the wall came down and "You'll Never Walk Alone" started playing. This was better and more moving than any "official" performance I've been because it brings out the humanity in the story, instead of it being just a Roger Waters ego trip. Well done indeed!
The you’ll never walk alone segment when the wall fell was also a reference to an earlier Pink Floyd song called fearless in which the same sound of the crowd singing plays at the end
I teally hope Roger Waters get a chance to watch this performance. Absolutely fantastic adaptation. Full on point and even with a deep understanding of the story, the background and the meaning. Fantastic!
I haven't seen such young, talented people for a long time. It was undoubtedly a new experience of this show for me. I was hooked from the beginning until the standing ovation you all deserved. Thank you .
Okay I had no idea what to expect when I started this but here I am during Goodbye Blue Sky and I'm in tears. You guys nailed it, you guys abso-fuckin-lutely nailed it! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
11/06/23 UNBELIEVABLE!!! Impeccable performance. I started watching without expectations, just to hear versions of the original, but right at the beginning something different caught my attention. I stopped working and went to the couch to watch..... You know that cold in the corner where the hair on your arms stands up?? That was the feeling I had. I would like to congratulate everyone for the commitment and heart dedicated to this theatrical performance. Thank you very much. PS: Here in Brazil, we have our famous, world-renowned Carnival, and we held our CARNAWALL, since 1998 an extended holiday that moves an entire small town with just one sound: PINK FLOYD.
An absolutely amazing adaptation of one of the best, if not THE BEST Pink Floyd album of all time. I ansolutely love how everything is depicted, and I like the additional stuff added to the play, like other Pink Floyd songs. Petition for this to be a Broadway adaptation
third time watching. hello future-james. i knew youd be back. also, massive shoutout to that bassplayer who also did the vocals of the judge. he was incredible. i mean, they were all incredible but i know fuck all about acting and other stuff i didnt mention. but i know a thing or 2 about bass and heavy vocals and that guy really impressed me. he should definately have been on stage for that judge scene
What a great performance of the wall if you guys and ladies decide to more I have a request if you could do a adaption of my second favorite rock concept album if you could do quadrophenia?
Trop bon, trop bien, trop fou. Bravo à vous tous
This is a very interesting and faithful adaptation of the wall, honestly i am very impressed 🙂 and I can see this being done on bigger stages and theatres The Wall would be taller and bigger I can tell ya 😂 (my only complaint) but hey small venue and probably small budget, can only do what you can am I right?
I'm Speechless. Best thing on watched on You Tube in a long time. Fantastic performance and the music was so well done. I would pay to see this on Broadway.👍
Astounding adaptation of "The Wall." The movie first came to my little town when I was just out of high school and it moved me. This was the first time I felt this way about it since that time. These are the age of my grandchildren on stage now and have the energy to perform this adaptation. Since the 1980's the extinction of your world is more vivid than ever. Do you see it? Yes, I believe Roger Waters and Pink Floyd should see this, as should many more; more than 22k as of this writing some 2 1/2 years after posting. Definitely. The Soundtrack itself using "this is the United States calling. Are we reaching...? There must be someone else besides your wife there to answer..."WOW!
After the song Mother the piano played "Goodbye Cruel World", Brilliant and I wept watching this for the effort and emotions put forth from the characters and the original story behind the album. Shine on you Crazy Diamond. RIP
Out fucking standing. I started to watch, thinking I probably wouldn't make it till the end, but I did and am very impressed. The Wall is a hell of a project to tackle. Well done!
When I was in the Theater department in High School, I really wanted to write and perform a musical based on The Wall. This performance is almost exactly what I had envisioned; I now really wish I had done it
I have been a Floyd fan for most of my life. I have to say this is outstanding, congrats to all involved, especially the people who played Pink, & Mother (her note at the end of Bring The Boys Back Home was spine chilling), also kudos to the bass player, Roger would be proud of you. I've seen lots of renditions of The Wall, (including Roger's tours) and this is a well deserved tribute. Again, well done to all involved.
you guys absolutely killed it my god, absolute justice was delivered on every front to the album and all the original ideas thrown in were great additions as well, really good job
It might sound ridiculous but I've had this tab open for months and every time I start to watch it again tears well up in my eyes. Just amazing what these kids pulled off. I was expecting a recorded soundtrack, but no. Live musicians and they kicked ass.
I can't believe you all did this. What a feat! Incredible. The music, performances, and the editorial decisions that you made with the source material, it was an incredibly moving experience, even for someone who listened to the album on repeat for months and months when it first came out. Amazing.
