The Floyd isn't something you listen to. It's something you experience. Something you feel. No band has moved me as much.

@@51Dss how you experience music is subjective and even can change over time. I just know when I saw Pink Floyd live it was amazing and I like a lot of the albums/songs too.
@51Dss

@@autohmae I completely agree with you. For anyone who has listened to Pink Floyd recorded or who has been fortunate enough to experience Pink Floyd live there can be no denying the spiritual stirring it creates in the soul. I believe music at its finest, music as an art form is like a facet on a complex and finely cut diamond. A diamond with an infinite number of facets. Each facet represents a particular style, or genre or idea that is expressed in music. I would never make a value judgement comparing Steely Dan with Pink Floyd. I am saying that although quite different from each other they both cause that stirring in the soul. Just when a person thinks they've discovered "the one" something else comes along and shows them the light bent in a slightly different trajectory but still just as beautiful and awe inspiring.

One reason that Dave Gilmour...without publicity, gave away a large house in Holland Park to a homelessness charity for them to sell and use the money how they saw fit. Not many musicians give away property valued in the millions and say nothing about it to the media. Brian Lester Gilmour isn’t a genius .He couldn’t write lyrics ,or sing them for that matter.Hendrix was a genius.He is not relatable to me .......or Johnny Rotten who described this as drivel.This album sold in thousands who bought it to see what the misplaced hype was all about and then found out the truth.`There was too much good music being made at this time for this to stand out .In fact it sounded dated to me when it was first released. I was a student at that time and a lot of my friends bought the record because it made them appear intellectual.In reality they were merely joining a very large flock of sheep.

Pink Floyd is art. Their best work is not their commercial stuff. They are definitely not metal, but they can be heavy. Their albums are meant to be listened to as a whole, so listening to just one Pink Floyd song is not going to reveal the whole conceptual genius.
@musicaldun1
@musicaldun1 5 лет назад
I absolutely agree that their albums, which are intricately planned slices of mind-warping 'conceptual genius', should be listened to in their entirety to be appreciated and understood. However, in trying to expose the music to someone who knows nothing about Floyd, giving them a 7 or 8 minute taste of brilliance like this could possibly serve better than saying, "Hey, check out this album." Just one man's opinion...

David Gilmour is IMO the greatest guitar player of all time. I can’t explain it other than to say his play contains more emotion than any other I’ve ever heard, the solo in Comfortably Numb is a great example. the song Time has my favorite Floyd lyric. “You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today. And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun. So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older, Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.” So good it’s ridiculous

Pink, it was a real pleasure to watch your face as you listened and discovered your self in music. We as human beings are Spiritual beings. We feel; therefore, we are. We speak to convey our thoughts, we speak poetry to convey our feelings. We dance to show how we feel and if we do it right, we make you feel it too. Music is sounds, played together to allow us to feel the vibrations within our bodies. If it is played properly, we can not only feel those vibrations but see the colours of our emotions and tagged my our memories to a specific time and place with a certain person or persons. So when the same sounds are played again we are transported back through time and space to that special place to relive that special memory. Now that you have experienced Pink Floyd you will never be the same again. A door has opened to you and you have stepped in. Now you must travel and taste the fruits of musical freedom and explore your inner self. You are no longer spoon fed; but, have tasted the forbidden fruits of self determination. Welcome Sweetheart, to the Dark Side of the Moon.

What’s amazing about David’s guitar style for me is that he doesn’t shred, play fast, tap or do any shredding techniques in general, (they didn’t exist when he learnt to play anyways) he just makes the guitar sing. It’s why I’d say he’s my favourite guitarist, absolutely beautiful.

Another for "The Great Gig In The Sky" (the nest song after "Time" on Dark Side of The Moon). Pink Floyd are everything as people have already described here, so there is nothing more i can say. Masters of musical craftsmanship. You feel the poetic and brilliantly produced songs. One I have always liked (47 years old and was hooked from the first time ever hearing them around 8 years old. "Strangers passing in the street By chance two separate glances meet And I am you and what I see is me." - Echoes by Pink Floyd.

Roger Waters, the absolute master of lyrics! I remember making a similar thing happen with a punk g/f back in the '80s using 'Animals'. If you may recall, punks did not like Pink Floyd, they saw them as the establishment old guard, overcomplicated and out of touch. So I sat Emmy down, put a copy of Animals lyrics in her hand & put the tape on to play. Her reaction was similar to PinkMetalHeads as she realised this 'boring old guard' band was every bit as savage & violent as her punk heroes, the only real difference was subtlety in the presentation by adding a contrast of sublime music.

I'd be willing if people quit calling "RAP"...Music. I'm 62 and when "RAP" first came about in the mid 80s, I was open minded and gave it a shot. AT FIRST, I "THOUGHT" it was kinda cool. But it got REDUNDANT, BORING, and it was ALWAYS..TALK!! And I also noted that MUSIC was being taken from bands and artists that ACTUALLY PLAY "MUSIC" and stuck in the middle of their "RAP", which tells me that they haven't the abilty to come up with their own ORIGINALITY!! Then they started to put all the CUSSING in there and I just said....KEEP IT, I DON'T WANT IT!!!!! Keep it away from me!!
