Really enjoying listening to your reactions of Pink Floyd, Also love that you give your insights to the lyrics and music, It’s amazing to me how PF music seems timeless over 40 years later
As someone of an age and has been lucky enough to see Pink Floyd 8 times live over the years it fascinating hearing young peoples views on such an important iconic band, there music is so multi layered and you pick up on exactly the same things that as a lad of your age I did... just proves talented musicians span every generation and always will. Good work 👍
Another good one bloke. I far prefer to hear the deeper reaction analyizations such as you do. It's far more interesting than the reactors who add little more than "yeah, great song, thanks". These 1970's Floyd works only continue to inspire and become more personal with repeated listenings and familiarity. Cheers.
Floyd and this album is not just about the music industry. It is always about the human condition and about society. Sometimes exemplified by the music industry (Have a cigar) sometimes not so much.
You do that great. It brings a feeling of hope to me when young generations try out Pink Floyd. You have a great British accent and what you tell about the music is cool. Maybe you are interested about the real story behind that song? It is interesting. Check it out on Wiki or other sources.
You shouldn't worry so much about trying to get the 'right' meaning. It's one of the joys of ALL art, that you make your own meanings. The artist begins the work and the viewer/listener/reader finishes it. In some cases, many times over. :)
Absolutely, I couldn't agree more! It's just a shame some people don't share the same open mindset about how things can be interpreted. I know Lost in Vegas call themselves and their viewers "Free Thinkers" which I think is pretty cool. People are all way too different for us all to take everything in exactly the same way. Thank you for the comment! And yeah, you're right, I have no idea where the 5 cane from lol
You're on the right track with the industry/ record label stuff. However the dystopian futuristic stuff is an interesting 2018 take on a 1975 album. Even though I don't think that's where Rodger was going, I also believe it's a totally valid interpretation on your part as art in the end is always in the mind of the beholder. I guess it just proves once again how so far ahead of their time this band was with their Sound and Music.
I agree. It speaks a lot to the depth of their music that even if a certain feeling wasn't intended at the time, conversations can still come up about that so many years later. It just reminded me of a 90s ish sci fi sort of vibe and I think it's great how I can be on one hand trying to decipher that more general meaning of the song but at the same time, picking up a whole nother level to it just from my perception of the sound. Like I said, their music just has so much depth and it's great.
Thank you for stating it so well for this young man. Pink Floyd was meant to touch EACH of us and bring out SPECIFIC moments in each of our own lives. I can always picture an exact moment of my life when I listen to them. But the beauty is that it can be totally different to you and still be 100% correct from their point of view. Also great work young man on listening to artists who ACTUALLY did ALL of the album, Wrote their own songs, sang those songs, oh and I forgot to mention played their own instruments.😂😂😂
I enjoy your thoughts on the lyrics. I find it fascinating to hear someone else’s opinion and interpretation of music. Let the haters hate. Keep asking questions and learning new things.
The album is kind of a tribute to an original founder/ex-bandmate named Syd Barrett who, from some accounts, overdosed/overused LSD and lost his real self and had to be expelled by the good of the band.
Is ok to have your own interpretation, after all that's what art is about. For me, this song doesn't have a sci-fi vibe, but an industrial one. What I hear in the song is the repeating beat of machinery in some kind of production line. As for the meaning of the lyrics, I think you got it wrong. They are selling the dream of fame and fortune, but the oppressive beat on the music is not implying that they will help you to achieve your dream, but that they will use your dream to make you a cog in the machine. And since a machine is the opposite of creativity, the implication is that you will be forced to sacrifice the individuality of your expression as an artist to the altar of commercial success. This is reinforced in the next track ("Have a Cigar"), where they point how little the music industry cares for you and only cares to keep the gravy train going.
The Machine is Life. Society. The rat-race. The pattern of expectations you need to conform to. You can rebel and think you are doing just what you want... But they (the machine) know where you've been, and told you what you've dreamt. Everybody's gone through it. The Machine just makes you think you're a rebel. But in the end, you will be a cog.... In the machine. So... Welcome.
I used to be a hip hop head man but f*** that s*** crossover my brother LOL JK do you but rock and roll music will take care of you and mold your spirit into something unbreakable and provide you with a fountain of creativity in which you will never thirst this music was crafted for you my brother these are your people your ancestors haha
George Orwell's "1985"?! Does he also have a Prince album called "1998"?! One other comment - Record labels were (often, but not always!) less controlling then than they are now.
React to Tool-Vicarious with lyrics. Top of the line band a lot of hip hop heads are digging with first time reactions. Deep music with complex themes and talented musicians.
Yes people call them Floyd. As people tend to do what people tend to do. In the context of this song, it's interesting you wondered whether it was 'acceptable' to follow your though and call them that...
Oops, I apologize. I forgot for a moment how this thing works. Kind of new to it. I think I got it now. And by the way I enjoy your videos. You are awesome
Oh no no, don't worry about it. I didn't take offense, my apologies if my reply was a little hostile, it's hard to separate the good ones from the assholes in the comments sometimes but we're all good. That Lil Wayne reaction ended up getting taken down for copyright anyway in the end lol. Thank you for watching and sticking around, I appreciate the support :)
For a first reaction, you've gone well toward nailing it. If you're into this kind of interesting psychological rock/art rock, I really suggest Peter Gabriel's 1980 solo album. Often called "Peter Gabriel III" or "Melt," or "Meltface." It's not as much a cohesive "album experience" as you'll find with Floyd, but the songs, lyrics, sounds themselves are often jarring, and slippery, even dangerous feeling. It's Peter's finest work for me, really, and it starts with "Intruder" here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vAzUh_H7yV0.html Love to see your take on that one, dude.
Wasn't the easiest game to watch but I'm glad we got them at least lol. At least we have the international break now, hopefully the boys can get some rest and we can get Eriksen and Dele Alli back. Plus, if we win the next PL game, it'll be our best ever start to a season!
Plenty of other comments agreed with the relation to the music industry and interestingly, you're only the second person to say any part of this song was about Syd. It's possible for people to have different interpretations of music, it doesn't always have to be so cut and dry 🤷♂️
In most if not all of their songs. Where the band is referencing your work, or school is when they describe people, as non people. Then they became part of the machine. This is when you being to lose control of your life. It's kind of like living in a socialist/Communist societee and in your mind your trying to buck the system... it's your obligation to societee and you are nothing even the children in songs and represented in their videos become faceless masses and the machine that the children are marching themselves into turns out to be a meat grinder. Garbage in garbage out
