I liked it and bought it a long time ago on VHS. It does seem to take inspiration from Hitchcock films as the Wikipedia entry suggests. But it has at least one big plot hole. If the detectives ever showed him a picture of the husband, he'd say, "That's the guy from my acting class who let me stay in the house on the hill." So the guy needed to wear a disguise while he was interacting with the protagonist, if that was possible. Or if they interviewed the home owner, they'd find he let the husband house sit for him.
In 1984, why/how would the police have a picture of Alexander Ravel? The husband would have been a subject of investigation, sure, but as Detective McLean said, “I’ve got a real problem with you, Scully. When rich women end up dead, I usually go after the husband. But you saw an Indian kill Gloria Ravel.” With the husband already having a clear alibi, the police would have no reason to track down a photo of Alexander Ravel and show it to Scully. Even if Jake assumed that he had seen the husband shoving and slapping Gloria one night, his story for the police was “well that wasn’t the guy who killed her. The guy who killed her was the Indian I saw working on the satellite dish, following her at the high-end fashion mall, and who stole her purse on the beach.” I don’t think there’s any plot hole here.
I remember when I was a kid at 10pm Cartoon Network turned into some adult cinema channel and I watched some of this movie at a far too young age 😅 Finally tracked down what film it was all these years later and was surprised it was Brian De Palma!! Watched it and thought it was awesome and very underrated. The soundtrack and this song is so awesome 🔥🔥🔥
I didn't know this was called "Telescope." They used this tune, as well as "Axel F" _(Beverly Hills Cop)_ AND "Love on a Real Train" _(Risky Business)_ in the movie _Air!_ It's a 2023 movie about Nike signing Michael Jordan in 1984 and creating the Air Jordan brand of basketball shoe that made them billions and has an excellent soundtrack!
I loved this movie, but upon thinking about it, it falls apart. Like if the police had just shown him a picture of the guy. And in the scene where he's running to save her, how could he get down from the house quickly, when you have to take a slow lift?
Jake took the stairs running parallel to the slow lift just like Holly was shown doing when she fled the house later on after getting mad at Jake for his deception and hysterical plea that she go with him to the police.
