Loved seeing you take charge and jump right into action. Even though this isnt your primary job, you sounded just like a chief the way you handled it and made your reports on the radio. Really glad to see people like you out there!

That was pretty impressive how you handled that fire Eric. Cool, calm, and thorough. Talking to dispatch, gearing up and knocking on doors, and getting accurate and clear info to arriving units/chiefs... very impressive. If you and your wife wouldn't have noticed that smoke, that fire could've gotten a lot worse in the next minutes that 911 wasn't called. Great job again!

Great work PIO Hurst! Working fires are very intense and fast-paced events, especially with modern construction. You and your wife definitely caught that at the right time! Also, I really enjoy these vlogs, seeing as I frequently interact with the media for my photography/videography. There aren't many channels like South Metro Fire! I'll have to stop by next time I'm on vacation!

Great size up, after listening to many different size up's via scanner traffic I would hope Eric's calm explanation could teach volunteer agencies how to respond to their neighbors in time of need.

If you do a video about dispatching, it would be interesting to hear about the radio and the training everyone goes through on it. Seems like one technique I assume for clarity is the other party repeats what you said back to you, stuff like that would be nice to learn about. Also things like what's dispatched to certain calls, like this they sent multiple stations, multiple BCs, ect.

Your wife displayed service above the call of duty when detecting the smoke and alerting you to it and for you starting the investigation, notifying fire dispatch, filming and waking up the neighbors to evacuate from the fire. Well done by you both. Connor is a wonderful and talented addition to the PIO staff. What does Conner do when not on her 7 day on call duty? Is she a firefighter with South Metro? Curious about her background and how she became a wonderful PIO. If you went through firefighter training Conner, what did you think of being inside a burning structure for the first time and dragging the hose while extinguishing the fire? 🔥 Your videos are amazing and we'll done. Is that Logo signifying you have a Birds Eye View on what is happening? Well, Eric got the wrong of the stick, eh? Excellent job on that house fire Eric, and your wife did a great job recognizing the smell of a structure fire too. You two were definitely instrumental in getting this fire quickly reported with valuable information so SMFR has essential information as to how to fight this fire. And it appears that SMFR did quick work at saving this home too. That light rail training sounds awesome, and the thought of lifting a train off a victim sounds unbelievable, but an essential skill potentially down the road, or should I say Rail? What a cool exercise especially being conducted on an elevated platform. Oh, you're not excited at all Conner...you are always excited. Great Video once more and loved watching this one.

@PIO10 Did you work for South Metro as a FF prior to your appointment as PIO? From the sound of your size up it seems like you have some command experience. Great work and great content!

Just curious how your progression of command works? here, officer of first-arriving unit is command until relieved by an officer of higher rank. I know you took command as the primary; did the first-in truck take command, or did you keep it till the BC got there? (also, in the city I live in, we don't have BCs, on a fire event, dispatch pages the asst. chief on duty/call. I know that a recently retired AC would leave command with the first-in officer, and just standby to support/advise them, instead of just assuming command.)

Why did dispatch think the fire was intentionally set? It seems like it was very early the incident to have that information.

A lot of fire departments on the west coast use firefighters as PIO's, just curious if Eric is a firefighter detailed to the PIO office?

I love watching your shows, my grandpa is the Fire Chief of Grapevine Texas, your shows are still cooler. I love Fire Fighters and Dinosaurs, my dad has been an Army Doctor since I was born but I still like your shows more. I look forward to every time my dad tells me about a new show. Where does South Metro operate? I am assuming this is Denver metro. My Dad and sister lived in Aurora and we lived in Arvada and my Dad worked at Fitzsimmons when I was in high school. My Dad was raised in Denver, so I had relatives all over the area, but most have passed now.

Just curious why you didn’t knock on the house that was on fire. Were they already out? Seems like they could be asleep. Maybe I missed it???

I live in San Antonio Texas and someday I want to become a firefighter for the SAFD I got four friends there in the fire department and they all tell me what the trucks do and since I'm kind of working with the San Antonio Fire Department it is really fun being a captain of a San Antonio fire Department

Hey y’all would it be possible to fit a GoPro on a firefighter gear for a fire???

Couple things. First that came to mind, is there any plans to bring back the unscripted series? If so could some of those be used to show off the "new" stations obtained with the Littleton merger? Then as well you guys should do an episode or two going over the hiring/academy process with SMFR for those of us young guns that look to get on a department like this.
