Greetings from Alaska. Saw one of your videos and since have been hooked on the department. I love the intros of the videos and the content that you all present in the videos. Always waiting to see what comes next. Keep up the good work.

Are you guys just PIO or are you guys also trained firefighters/emt?

Im transitioning into a PIO position at my department from frontline fire. Worst case scenario Ill drop the camera and fight the beast with the guys. As big as South Metro is I dont think its necessary for that position. They are the eyes and ears of their department and are clearly very busy and good at what they do so suggesting they are not doing enough or don’t deserve to wear a helmet and bunker coat is baffling to me. I Would encourage you to ask yourself if you’re doing everything you possibly can to represent your department as well as these guys? Take care.

So do you guys perform any of the regular duties of a ff/emt and if so what kind of help do you provide on scene. Because from what I've gathered it seems like you guys only report on the accident

Wait wait wait...the guy at 0:48 has the last name Hurst? Please tell tell me Hurst used Hurst tools to extricate! Then it would be "hurstception" #badfirefighterjokes

That's the guy in the video. You're just seeing someone else filming him from behind. But yeah they do use the battery powered Hurst equipment I think. I'm not an expert by any means, just from what I've seen in these videos.

So as a PIO if your primary job is reporting on the incident to the news media and general public why do you need bunker gear and stuff unless your in the “hot zone” and can you step in if a FF or Emt is in need of help? just a few questions

@SirBender
@SirBender 5 лет назад
Why is it necessary for a PIO to use siren and flashing lights??? Your function is NOT to save lifes or to investigate... I don‘t get it. Amber lights without any sirens like site vehicles or tow trucks use are absolute sufficient.
@adam2162-v3g
@adam2162-v3g 4 года назад
It adds to safety on accident scenes and makes the truck easily seen when they have to get through traffic like you saw for the MVA.

Do ya'll run your Towers like Engines? It seems they have a big pump, as well are EMS trained.
@jacobwright70
@jacobwright70 5 лет назад
Thanks! I wish my department did that, instead we run this 2014 Spartan Rescue\Pumper that has everything on it (except a ladder) and it provides use as first due Engine to Fire, EMS and MVA's even though we do have three Engines and a Tower. www.flickr.com/photos/leewilson/sets/72157646995526288/ (Photos of the rig)

They are in Colorado (Parker, Centennial, Littleton, Highlands Ranch, Columbine, Aurora, Castlewood) South Outskirts of Denver. Age is 18 as long as you have at least a high school diploma.

I understand the need to keep people informed of important situations, but I do not see how any vehicle incident is a big enough that the PIO needs to run emergency. Certain severe weather, large gas leaks, or possibly even a building fire, but certainly not vehicle incidents.
@some0ne8
@some0ne8 5 лет назад
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Otherwise I'm sure someone would see a truck coming down the shoulder and move over to block it... the lights and siren are kind of a good indicator to not do that..
