This is not a step by step install as that vid would be several hours long...lol. This does show you however, how easy Joe Kocienski's long travel kit is to install.

I was wondering if you or your subscribers have a very noisy either rear end or transmission? My 2016 seems very noisy especially when running with light or no load in the higher gears. Almost sounds like the thing is going to come apart.. When it was new I took it back to the dealer several times and he just says this is normal for the 500??? Do you know if this is typical noise (not response from a screwed up dealer) or not?
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 4 года назад
It is typical rear end noise. The gears are square cut and not helical cut. Square cut are stronger but also make a LOT more noise. Switch to a 75-140 oil and it will quite them down pretty good

The long travel should fit on the 520. You’ll need to get a hold of Joe Kocienski on Facebook to order and he would know if it’ll fit for sure. I have yet to even see a 520 at any of my local dealers...lol. Honda as suppose to send me a demo to test and review but then covid hit and machine availability when way down so I don’t know if I’ll ever get a demo or not.

What would it cost to set up my Pioneer 500 to a "Mighty Mouse"
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 5 лет назад
Joe now offers the kit in two versions. One with axles for $1700 shipped and one without axles for $1100 ship and you get whatever axles you want. (the kit will work with any pioneer 700 axles just keep in mind you have to switch out the diff cup on he front right so you may have to buy two axles to run a heavier duty one as you’ll need a heavier duty diff cup to match) You also need to upgrade your shocks to run the kit too. You can get Walker Evans with a discount by mentioning my channel for right around 1k. The rest of the cost would depend on what tires and rims you want to run.

Hi Jason, I have a 2021 Pioneer 520. I am 73 yrs old and am looking to get a softer ( less bouncy ) ride. Will walker Evans shocks alone do it or do I also need the long travel kit. I do not drive very fast normally. If this can be accomplished with shocks alone can you recommend some? If I need Joe's long travel kit too let me know. I should mention I use 26 in. Zilla tires on stock rims. Jason if I could get a good ( reasonable ) ride with shocks alone that would be great as I like the 50in. There must be a good set of front and rear shocks that would greatly improve the ride isn't there. If so let me know what they are.
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 3 года назад
While the ride with shocks and the long travel is amazing, Walker Evan shocks alone give you a far cushier ride. Most, including myself, describe it as a night and day difference and it truly is. One thing to consider is if you go with the long travel you still have to upgrade shocks so to try just shocks first you won’t be out anything to upgrade to the long travel later if needed.
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 3 года назад
Also check out 814 shocks as they are set up a bit softer than even the walkers and are more suited for slower paced trail riding with their Trail series shocks.

Im ordering a kit in january 2020 and I have 25 inch tires and WE front shocks (175lb) and elka stage 3 rear shocks (225lb) ,am I hearing you correct that the spring rates will not work out if I order the long travel kit? Thank you like always for your help to us that know less than you!!!!
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 4 года назад
Yeah, you need much heavier springs or the suspension will sag bad, especially in the rear. Need 225 in the front (which your rear elka springs may fit which would save you there) and a whopping 600lb spring for the rear. Walker Evans now have a spring package for the long travel but since you all ready have Walker’s on the front you can just tell them you need only the springs. Not sure what you could get for your rear Elka’s but I bet the springs from Walker Evans would fit too.

You know, I have to agree with 3006USMC, oorah. 1700 bucks, plus shocks.... got me thinking. Upgrade lil red, or buy a P1K5 or an X4. I know you kinda did a quick video on why you traded your P1K for the X4, but Id like to know $ for $ which one would you rather have of the 3--P5 w/ long travel and WE, P1K5, or X4? My kids have a RZR170 for now, they follow behind. But 4 ppl sure would be nice if we had/want to. Like to see a review X4 vs.... Mighty Mouse is awesome BTW.

Im planning my one year review of the X4 now so I’ll make sure to give some detailed thoughts on how I thinks it stacks up to the rest and if I’m still happy with my decision to sell the P1k5 for it or if I regret it. Great ideas North Adventure South!

Just bought a new leftover 2018 P5 . I want bigger wheels , tires and as much ground clearance as I can get without breaking the bank for portals. But , I also need to stay below 55" wide. What'd be my best bet ? Just a small lift kit with new wheels and tires and stick with the stock A-arms ? Thanks
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 4 года назад
Hank Slaght probably. If you do the frame mod (cutting the square end of the frame that sticks into the front wheel wells at an angle for more clearance) you can fit most 30” tires. Depending then on the backspacing of your wheels I’d ad at least 1.5”/2” wheel spacers for stability and the slightly wider wheel base will help soften the ride a touch too. If you don’t want to do the frame mode you can run 27” and some 28” tires without any mods. AND LOOSE THE REAR SWAY BAR....you’ll thank me...lol. You should end up with a machine around 53”-54” and you’ll gain a good several inches of ground clearance.

I have contacted Joe about the kit and told him I wanted to use my stock wheels and 26x8 & 26x10 tires. He said I would need to use a 1 " .spacer. Will the P500 still fit in my Dodge. Also he said I could not use my stock shocks. What do you suggest without breaking the bank. What shocks and springs.
@AppalachianMountainRiders
@AppalachianMountainRiders 4 года назад
Well mine just fits in the back of my 10’ Ram 2500 but just barely. There is exactly 60” between the bedsides of the truck and with my Walker Evans rims that are a 5+2 offset I am right at 59 3/4” in the rear. Front is about 58”. The reason he says you need spacers is the stock 12” rims will rub the a arms without spacers. 5+2 rims will cause the rims to stick out around 1”-1.5” wider (this is just a rough average and will vary by machine)than stock so it’ll be a close fit with stock rims and the spacers. You can get away with the stock shocks on the front but I don’t recommend it. However the rear stocks are a no go. Shock brand doesn’t matter( though you know I’m partial to Walker Evans) as much as the spring weight. You’ll need at least a 575lb spring in the rear to keep it from sagging with all the added leverage.

@@AppalachianMountainRiders I'm sorry for being a pest Jason. I am very mechanical but I don't know and cannot find the answers to these Q's on the web. Here is what I want, you tell me how to get there. I am a rider that rides on gravel back roads, no mud and a not a real challenge. Just real rocky. I am a rider like you characterized in the Walker shock test that only needs the font shocks {if I want more comfort...I don't , just height] You said in the beginning of the video that EOM shocks can be used. Is that still correct? Wheel Q's I can't find the width of the EOM wheels. Are the front and back 7"? One site said the back was already 5+2 offset. I just can't be putting more money into this if it is not needed for what I want it to do. I have new 26x8x12 26x10x12 tires [keeping]. Please tell me the size of wheels I need front and back using my tires. Of course this all won't matter if I have to change shocks. Stay safe
