Pioneer DJ OPUS-QUAD - Not what we expected! Quick look & first impressions  

For me it’s like using the 3000s with the v10 mixer so can see a lot of pro djs having this in there arsenal to use as there home kit imo

Everything looks amazing, I'm looking to upgrade from my DDJ100srt. I was thinking of this or 2 CDJ's but didn't know if it would be overkill because of it's size. Now I'm rethinking it all. Thanks for this intro!

Can't wait to get mine! Preordered the second it dropped. Haters will hate (especially in the DJ community), but I don't need 10 ways of getting my music onto a device, just the USB. I'm really loving the capability of the advanced FX X/Y controls like this offers with the screen, the smooth echo, and that it has enough similarity to CDJs that I'll feel comfortable when I'm using a venues equipment. Definitely room for improvement, but mostly just in the software department. I think this thing was supposed to be released in a couple more months, but was released early due to the leaked renders (so I've heard/believe). I think after summer this thing will have some great updates that (hopefully) will include: a slip function, DMX control, and streaming.

Pioneer fan boys never satisfied, lol! First they complain about Pioneer not being innovative and behind the times. Then Pioneer releases this next level device and now they're like WTF is this! We want the same old thing! Granted the design is off beat, but functionality wise, it is very nice. I predict it will trickle down to their XDJ device soon.

Beat Loop encoders have been on Traktor controllers since at least 2010. Denon as well. Only new to Pioneer products.

Quick correction for clarity: the rack-mountable Pioneer DJM-5000 from a few years back also had a zone output complete with XLR outputs, a dedicated level control pot and also a source selector. So this wouldn't be the first zone output from Pioneer. And in fact on the 5000, there was a separate LED indicator for the zone output level (albeit a single "summed stereo" LED level indicator rather than two for L and R).

Too late to the party, Prime 4 has advanced its software so much and just lately with the sample banks and more innovation coming. Pioneer haven’t really been known for cutting edge software development so for the price they are charging at launch with no on board streaming, no SD card slot, no lighting controls, I could go on…there isn’t much really to be excited about apart from the fact that you can mix with all 4 channels standalone which you could do on the prime 4 a few years ago. And there’s nothing to say that they’ll just come out with another device that has a bit more and charge another £3-3.5k. I mean imagine all the people who purchased the XZ, they must be crying now. And the looks, it’s an acquired taste, I don’t mind it but I’m not paying 3.2k for something that looks a little out of the ordinary. It’s not going to make me a better DJ is it. This really is for people who buy things for the brand name regardless of what the damn thing is actually capable of (right now)

Is there assignable buttons to be able to use the stems within Serato etc?

I think this new device will be the template for future develpment on the stand alone ranges - Design and User interface wise i guess?

Does this system run dvs software to play digital music on turntables so i can mix from a turntable to say like the player and vs verser

For me this is an "upgraded" version of Denon Prime 4 or SC-Live 4... Altough I don't know if I would change due to the overprice for this unit. 3200€ is insane for it when you can basically find most part of this "new" features for Pioneer on an SC-live 4 for 1300€. But, I would love to feel it for sure =)

Will the software be continually improved, updated, and will the hardware evolve over time, or will it be abandoned by Pioneer. Nobody knows. I think Denon has proven that they will support updates and advances for the hardware they sell. I will get the Denon Prime 4 (+), as soon as I can get my hands on one.

Owned the dual deck setup from Denon for a while. Didn’t like the concept at all and very glad to have switched back to a full Pioneer setup with a V10 and CDJ’s 3000. Sooo much easier workflow having proper, physical decks instead of the fiddly switching between virtual decks.

Personally I think all the effects being in a drop down box on the touch screen rather than accessed through an actual switch is a massively big negative!. The same for the recent spate of cars that have been released with no physical buttons meaning to access the heating, air con etc you have to take your eyes off the road. Press this button go into this menu, click that option rather then turning the heating dial!. Same for this you have to click through menus on the touch screen, scroll through the FX till the one you want compared to turning a knob to the one you want!. Disaster.

Literally about to drop some $$ on a standalone and doing all the comparisons. Im just not seeing the versatility on this compared to the Prime 4. Denon thought of literally every format of importing music on the Prime (USB, SD, Hard Drive, Third Party Streaming ability to use Engine, Serato, VDJ. Unless you are a diehard Pioneer Head and are willing to spend the money hoping they upgrade this over the summer Id go Denon

You can get the XDJ XZ over here in Germany for 2500,- Euros. If it's connected to Serato, you do have access to four decks, playing with a laptop connected, you also have access to all your Streaming Services like Tidal or Beetport etc. Is the extra 800,- Euros on top for the Opus Quad really worth that extra investment, I think not (RRP Germany 3299,- Euros).The Opus is even bigger than the XDJ XZ.

Pioneer came up with the opus range to make gear that does not have to be designed to the industry standard instead it's designed to be innovative

These features aren’t new. Some are fixes to problems that pioneer has for years. When it gets streaming and Serato then it will be a game changer! That means you can use both at the same time with two DJs. That’s new and helpful in clubs I dj at where we need DJs with different play styles to use the same controller at the same time.

Warning up to this as a replacement for my ddj 1000 (i despise rekordbox). Didn't realize the XZ had only two channels for USB (i need four) so now I'm comparing Opus to Prime

It's BARELY not a rectangle, and every reviewer is like "wow the layout is so different and new like a spaceship" Can we stop falling for the laziest marketing bullet points please. Its truly not that different from any other four channel mixer or controller.

The design is kinda cool actually, but the lack of basics like Slip Mode, Performance Pads, SD card, Ableton Link, etc. for €3300 make this another hard pass. Prime 4 all the way. Less „fancy“ but a powerhouse.
