I would have the SP16 for Stand alone music production and either the MPC One or the DJ1000 for performance. But I gotta say... I never thought the SP16 would end up being the most important gear in my inventory. I mean I know marketing for the SP16 was really bad, because I never heard of if before I bought it yesterday. I love this unit so much that I am definitely saving up for a spare because it looks like the kind of gear they would discontinue way to early

Owned it for one day and it's already the most important gear in your inventory? I hope you still like it!

The SP16 is seriously slept on. Not just for hip hop or doing. I use it for industrial and it works beautifully. Pair it up with a synth, some vocals, and you got yourself a one man band.

Good video dude. I like the added graphics. I have the SP-16. I only had it for a few months. I use it for a looper and to edit some of my sounds. I’m glad you did a comparison. I always wanted to know more about the DJ1000 unit.
@thelabby9998
@thelabby9998 3 года назад
The Djs1000 is better suited for looper use since it has realtime looping capture meanwhile the Sp16 not. That’s one of the main differences alongside the filter, song mode, dedicated outputs, fx… bpm fader, midi limitations…
@rorz999
@rorz999 2 года назад
@@thelabby9998 I thought it was added to the SP-16 in a firmware update? I'm sure I was able to do it on mine. It was added via a shift function so it wouldn't be immediately obvious if you don't know it's there

The other problem that this has was that the Pioneer Toraiz AS-1 was shipped with a very basic MIDI sync bug which they STILL have not released a fix for. Add to that the Pioneer online "support" person, who openly took the p*ss out of customers on their online forum, customers who had paid hard earned money for products that didn't work properly, and they had a PR disaster on their hands. Hope Pioneer sacked that dude, he probably contributed significantly to the failure of the SP16 to make any impact too.

I didn’t realize that… what was the Midi synch bug? I haven’t noticed any so far with mine

I have the AS1 too and while I do love that synth I must admit that the sync bug is sooo unbelievably irritating. The fact that they have ignored thid Is very dissapointing.

Be never had issues with the Sp-16. Now the AS-1, it sounds good but gets out of sync when changing the presets. So frustrating, I sold it and manage to break even.

@@habitat2990when using as MIDI sync slave the sequencer goes out of sync. Which is no problem if it receives midi notes from an external sequencer. So clock receive works, but not with the internal sequencer.

great review - I picked up a DJs 1000 - having used the SP16 in the past - Does the DJS 1000 have arrangement mode ? as the SP16 had /.

I sold my Rytm MK2 and never shed a tear
@ErwinSchrodinger64
@ErwinSchrodinger64 3 года назад
Really? I'm asking because I have the Rytm MKII and the SP-16. I will say, the SP-16 is one of the easiest pieces of production equipment I've ever utilized. That beings said, everyone raves about the MKII. It's a lot more complicated than the SP-16 and not as intuitive. I hate all of the men diving on the MKII, as well. However, I haven't delved too deep into the MKII. Lastly, I hate the way the 12 pads feel on the MKII. They're hard and don't the velocity controls of the SP-16. I'm new to production. Everyone raves on how great Elektron equipment is. I see people do some pretty amazing things with the MKII on RU-vid. Why do you like the SP-16 more? In addition, I'm thinking about purchasing another SP-16. One for my production studio and the other for my DJ studio.

@@ErwinSchrodinger64 Oh, I am surprised. I hate the menu diving on the SP-16. I have to use the touch screen to silently change tracks. On the rytm track + pad, et voilà! When performing I have the feeling everything is on hand at the rytm. Yes, you need a little menu dive to setup the performance, but that's it. Conditional trigs are ace! I agree on the pads. But the sequencer, the analogue components are super dope. Setting accents is super easy on the rytm and swing per track. Quick performance mode can offer some really cool tricks, which are hard to achieve with other machines. Pros for the SP-16: The pads, stereo samples, more fx than the rytm and a really nice filter drive. And yes, at the SP-16 beginning is more intuitive then the rytm. But I hate the menu diving on touchscreen.

The other difference is the DJs has hot slice. So on the DJs if you were sequencing a phrase you can flip between slice and hot slice. Obviously hot slice will play through and slices just one shots basically. And you can turn out some phrases pretty quick. I think the sad thing with the units is the SP was mispriced when it came out. And I think for what it's worth the DJs is Miss priced. I have two DJs 1,000. I think if they were both in this priced and that's kind of the odd thing about pioneer product is they have this extreme premium. The test market I think they wanted didn't happen for either unit. The DJs is the sleeper unit at this point because of the price. Personally I prefer the DJs layout and form factor. They got the filter wrong I don't know why you wouldn't put the filter on the DJs. Personally I think both units are better than the MPC. The MPC is great and everything but it's just got too many features and things that just aren't necessary. Both pioneer units you don't even have to look at the manual. Not once have I ever looked at the manual. If you're making old school hip hop these are the units for you. Pioneer has hit upon a great form factor with the DJs. If I was them and I wish I were. I would take the DJs form factor and make a drum machine synthesizer and sampler. Either all in one or separate. It would be awesome to have something like the novation peak in this kind of form factor. Make a drum machine that's a digital analog sampler hybrid. And then make a super Kick-Ass sampler. And underneath all of this put the squid functionality. Man you look like a badass in modern times on stage. You can just do so much and it looked great!

I totally agree with everything you said. To touch on some of those points: ● Agreed, the DJS-1000 is way too expensive. It has less features than the SP-16 (no onboard hard drive, no analog filter, no separate outputs), so it's massively overpriced. I think Pioneer thought these would be bought by clubs and added to their DJ booths, in which case the product is a failure because I have *never* seen one of these in the wild. ● It is very frustrating that both units don't have all the same features, but I kind of understand why Pioneer did it. They didn't want one product to cannibalise the other. They are 90% the same machine under the hood. ● I think the reason they didn't include an analog filter on the DJS-1000 is because Pioneer assumed they would be hooked up to a pioneer mixer with a filter. With the benefit of hindsight, I think Pioneer should have made one product instead of two, which has all of the features. Same form factor as the DJS1000 but with a few different design choices to acknowledge that it will be used standalone as well, with no mixer.

djs 1000 for me over the toriaz as the djs can be used in studio and live performance as the toraiz is hard to use in live just because the pitch control is missing

@@Claidheambmor I gotta admit I gave Pioneer too much credit, The MD is on a whole 'nother level but it is a shame that to get a MD MK2 UW in mint condition you have to sell a kidney... I recently bought both the MD and The MNM MK2 in mint condition and now that I have used both Pioneer's Samplers... I gotta say that is what they are, nice Samplers and I do like the step sequencers and paramater lock feature included. They should have integrated sound design and synths though, hell, even the Electribes have 'em. So I totally agree and I was wrong to say you can buy a Toraiz instead of a MD if you are looking for the best drum machine. Elektron should really bring back the MD and MNM ... discontinuing them just made a bunch of resellers buy them just to jack up their prices up to 3k for Mint Condition units.
