It's time for a change in the way that the DWP process renewal/reapplication of PIP claims.
Their current system is very stressful and time consuming.
What do you think they should do?

I’m so worried to re apply, I’m due end of this year, it stresses me out, I feel like I’m begging to get a small help. My life is already hard and stressful every day, as if we don’t have enough. Thank you for explaining this, I didn’t know what to expect.

good luck, 14 month after I send the form they replay, they got some point out, after many letters to DWP told them we going to court again they agree to pay me the original amount, dont give up

I just want to say it also does not make sense to access me every 2 years at a cost to the Tax Payer of over £1000 each time when my condition remains the same or has got worse. It's a waste of Tax Payers money.

They’re making sure you’re still in the country and you continue to have a medical condition. I’d say that’s pretty reasonable as after all you’re being supported by taxpayers.

The process definitely needs to be streamlined, a 40 page application form is absurd. I have AS and haven't been reassessed yet, my friend who has MS and cant' walk has though, completely pointless waste of tax payers money, there is no possibility his condition would have improved. I am worried about it though, it's a minefield, and I am just getting a new motability car, would hate to lose it.

Absurd is definitely the right word to use.

Had a lifetime award on the old DLA (Mobility higher), I had 12 years on that rate. When the changes happened I was placed on lower rate pip and they took my lifeline (my car) off me. Was too ill to fight it at the time. Feeling stronger to fight it this time around! It’s so so stressful though… it’s so hard to tell someone on a form how much your condition affects you and even more so to a stand-offish assessor who seemed to have very little medical knowledge. I wish there was some kind of service to help you with your claim as I was definitely not equipped myself to fight it. Hopefully it will go better this time. Transferring to UC from Tax credits at the moment… I’ve been waiting 98 days for an answer. Job centre just says it’s with the decision makers… nothing they can do there’s a back log! 🤯🤯🤯 ohh and there’s no way my condition can improve, degenerative! The DLA decision maker appreciated that, why can’t the pip be same.

ive just had a pip review what gripes me is the review assessment is no different to the assessment you have when you apply for the first time i conducted both in one week one application and one review and both were almost the same 90 minutes over the phone one asked about pets/driving the other did not however despite filling out the review form an assessment still had to be conducted as you said condition hasnt gone away or got better but worse if anything the application one was turned down now onto mandatory recon

I keep having to re apply and I got diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis in 2017, Leukocytoclastic vasculitis diagnosed as a child, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue linked to my Ankylosing Spondylitis. I am not on biological injections. It's not right that I am assessed every 2 years. My conditions can stabilise but they cannot get better. They can give worse though.

From what I heard PIP has record amount of over 400,000 applications in late 2023 and it's expected to rise, people are now applying for PIP but their condition does NOT affect them doing things example 2 people can have the same condition but it affects the other person on a daily basis he/she cannot cook or dress or budget, but the other person can do it all, we have local News articles reporting ''everyone can apply for PIP for these conditions'' but in reality many of them they can't and now they have review applications taking over 1 year if not 2 years yes that is right over 2 years for a review to be completed !!!!!! the tribunals are overloaded and the genuine are left with the Blunt of it

Hi there, I've just noticed my PIP is up September '24, do I ring DWP for forms, can you tell me please? or just wait for it to drop thru door? I'm starting to stress, as we all do, when it comes about. I'm 65 and due my old age pension next January, will I still be able to claim PIP. Thanks for any Advice.
@AnkylosingSpondylitisMan

It should just drop through the door. It continues into retirement, so you can still claim & get state pension.

The review form is not as long as the initial assessment, 12 questions asking if anything has changed, I belong to a group called (benefits and work ),its on line. They have some very good guidance notes, but they advise not to just fill in your form by stating (no changes) because they know of people that have lost there clam altogether by doing that( ludicrous).

Hi all just a question. I received my PIP review/renewal Form today. After watching some youtube Videos, People suggesting : Just to write "no change" nothing else like " i am still struggling...... just no change. Is that right ??

The DWP tried to persuade me to have a telephone assessment because I wanted the assessment recorded and they didn't have recording equipment at the assessment centre but I explained to them that a face to face assessment would be better because then the assessor can see for themselves my physical issues and my daughter would record it. Unfortunately people have been denied PIPs due to the assessments being done over the phone as the assessor can't really assess someone's physical difficulties over the phone as most people who have trouble standing up and with balance are likely to be sitting down through the whole assessment.
@AnkylosingSpondylitisMan
@AnkylosingSpondylitisMan Месяц назад
Mine was over the phone (initial one due to COVID) - I think I bombarded them with so many reports, scans, letters etc, they probably had no choice in giving it to me 😂 In all seriousness though, yeah, it's so difficult to be able to get the full picture over a phone, as opposed to seeing someone in person.

For all those complaining about the PIP review system, just remember you will continue to be paid whilst the review is being carried out, even if it takes them 2-3 years to process it. It’s also up to the individual to keep on top of their evidentiary paperwork, ie don’t leave it until you get the form, it just adds to the panic.

Holding/gripping a pen, then writing out a whole document is something that I physically cannot do. The tightening of 2 fingers & 1 thumb (and maintaining it) is literally beyond my grasp. Writing is totally different to slapping my hands together! If you have similar things, what do you have? Do you have issues with certain limbs where you can do one thing, but not another? I would have hoped you'd understand rather than question these, which is exactly what the PIP assessors do!

@AnkylosingSpondylitisMan You're receiving money mate, that normally takes months for the average man to recieve working, I think having your condition monitored for any change good or bad is not too much to ask of anyone. If you think if it as pounds per hour terms

@@kylesheehan7217 5k a year is not much to live off if you are severely disabled and not able to work. Nobody wants to go from a 50k a year plus job to then being able not to work. He has paid his fair share into the system through working like myself and is on the contribution ESA which means it is paid because he worked for a number of years before coming disabled. It is costing the taxpayer extra money for him to be assessed every 2 years when the disability can only be stabilised through medication which means it won't get better or go away but can remain stable or get worse slower than it would without medication.
