Hi there! After watching many of your reviews i started questioning myself, how come you are not more popular? This is some quality stuff you upload here. Defenitely a sub from me, i might even share it around! Keep up the good work!
Just so you know, I usually buy my tobaccos in line with what you've reviewed. There's so many choices today that consumers need to narrow their purchases according to what they know they like or not. I'm going to enjoy some Durbar this evening thanks to you. As always your reviews are a necessity.
As a Dunhill devotee, I Love Durbar. For me it's the most interesting Mixture out there. For the most part I don't try anything really new unless I check one of your reviews first. Our tastes in Tobaccos are very similar, Except I'm more of a nicotine lightweight. Thnx as always.Very helpful.
Really enjoy your reviews. After I discovered your feed and subscribed I've been working my way through all your pipe and tobacco insights. Keep up the great information, it influences those of us which aren't sure what to buy next.
Excellent review (as all the others you did). Durbar might be my favorite Dunhill Blend - I love Orientals and I like the Latakia in the second row. Somewhere you asked for suggestions for further reviews. I'd be very interested what you would say about - J.F. Germain's Special Latakia Flake (which, in my opinion, should be called "Oriental Flake" - great stuff) - McClelland Arcadia (also a Balkan, but with theses specific sweetish McClelland VAs. The room note is pure heaven!) - Dunhill Royal Yacht (my go to VA, underrated imo) All the best from Hamburg! Nils
I appreciate you taking the time to comment, and I appreciate your tobacco suggestions as well! I'm sure that eventually I will work my way through the entire Dunhill line, so Royal Yacht is probably a given. I've heard good things about Special Latakia Flake as well.
I just tried Durbar tonight. Took my own sweet time enjoying it in my favorite Capri pipe. Like Nightcap, it gives me quite a buzz of relaxation. Pretty mild, yet pleasant room note. I find it greatly relaxing from the first light to the last puff.
Another great review. I am actually smoking Durbar as I watch this. It does seem to change as you get down the bowl. I could definitely detect all 3 tobaccos throughout the smoke but the Orientals were very prominent to begin with and now the Latakia and Virginias are coming through much more. Not a favourite but pretty good.
Thanks for the reply. I'll watch your review on dunhill 965 as soon as you post. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Going back to my local tobacconist on Saturday... But with a list this time lol
I opened up my first tin of Durbar not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised with the first bowl. Had a similar experience expressed by the others that it got better as it burned down. The Latakia came through strong on the first bowl (which I totally loved), but on the 2nd and 3rd bowl not so. Guess I'll have to finish the tin and then make a decision. Good review, as always.
Bradley, just ran across this... again. I always liked your old apartment for some reason. Reminds me of a place I had once. As for the Durbar, I smoked it when it was blended by Murray's, and it was STRONG! Very favorable, however. The STG version is much meeker, as are the rest of their Dunhill mixtures. Hang in there, old friend.
really enjoyble review Bradley. I've been smoking that tin for a month. It really surprises me that I get a somewhat sweet taste, especially when it gets halfway down. It made it of my rotation now. Cheers.
I didn't mean that I needed to "remedy" the tastes you noticed. It was just an expression implying that I needed to buy some more because I hadn't had any for a long time, and it's a very good blend.
Stuff&Things Haha, what a mess! I meant exactly the oposite, like you shouldn't / wouldn't have to reconsider YOUR thoughts on that tobacco. I do by no means take your comment as an insult. I'm still getting my expression-vocabulary updated though ;-) As always, keep those great reviews coming! I watch them over and over, especially when I'm about to taste a new tobacco. Cheers!
No worries! It was more of a colloquial expression which I should have realized might cause confusion for a non-native speaker, even someone who seems to have a very good grasp of English like you.
My opinion was similar; not sure how to categorize it, but it was enjoyable. To some degree, we all have certain expectations of a blend when we read the label. This is one that left me a bit puzzled. But in a good way. Thanks again for the interesting review...
Hey Bradley, Love your videos. Very detailed and easy to follow reviews for a beginner like me. I know you must be swamped with requests, but if you ever have the time I'd love to watch you review Samuel Gawith Full Flake Virginia. Thanks for reading and keep up the awesome videos, you really have a talent for this!
Diggin these tobacco reviews. New to pipe smoking, been trying to find that special blend for my taste buds. No success yet though! Your reviews are helping me choose what to try though. Personally I'm looking for a rich full bodied blend I can really taste. Haven't found that yet. I've tried house blends at my local tobacconist, Peterson old dublin, and frog Morton original. None of those really stood out to me in terms of taste. Very upsetting. Thanks again for your reviews, subbed.
I'd just like to say that I love how you edit your videos. I really like the little closeups on the tin and cameos then coming back to you on camera. Keep up with the reviews!!! One you may like is the Peter Stokkebye Luxury Bulls Eye Flake. It's a Va'Per with some Cavendish coins thrown into the mix. I love it.
Love your channel! Quality videos for sure! So I got Durbar and only had one bowl and I hated it so much I put it away in my cellar not to touch again lol I think one bowl is not enough to start hating it. I will give it another try. I can't really put my finger on it as to what I didn't like about it but I felt it was too strong for my taste and I am a regular 965 smoker.
I've had that experience with a few blends too, but I always have to give it a few bowls before I really make up my mind. Durbar can taste a bit sour/acrid at first, but it usually settles down.
this tobacco comes "alive" halfway through the bowl. starts out salty but then awakens to a balanced tango with the sweetness. Pairs perfectly with a belgian white beer.
Stuff and things. Big fan of Durbar and Navy Rolls (and all things Dunhill). Could you recommend any English/oriental blends that are of a similar quality / complexity to that of Dunhill now we have news Dunhill is being discontinued? I'm in the UK so UK recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks for the link! A question if I may, as said before I'm pretty new to this stuff, I'm just finishing a tin of orlicks gold, now I'd like to try something that's maybe a "next step up", maybe a vapour or an English but not something too high in nicotine content as from my cigarette years I've established I hate the head rush feeling... What do you recommend? Dunhill Elizabethan? Early morning? Thanks for your time, much appreciated
Franco Migliore - Dunhill Elizabethan is fairly high in nicotine. Early Morning Pipes is a fairly mild English mixture. It might be a good choice to help you get used to blends which contain Latakia.
Hi Bradley! How's your New Year going? VA. Gold is put out by Sccandinavian Tobacco Group Lane Ltd. Out of Tucker, GA.. Made in U.S.A.. I like vannilla. I wanna try buttered rum. You may like the unflavored. It about $13.95 in the store. Cheaper online. It's a 9oz. bag.
Great review. So what is the final verdict on this blend? I'm intrigued, but unsure weather to get a tin on it...not totally sold. Sounds like a good blend though.
A peculiar blend, there are times when I think its not quite a delightful smoke due to the very layered nature of the tobacco, which I suspect is down to the cut and just when I think I have had enough dryness, it rewards me with the zest of lemons, (anyone else get lemons?) Would I buy another tin? probably.
i liked this mixture but i seems to be a tad too spicy for me. Is this the oriental tobacco that I am not familiar with? I was smoking it outside so I might have been smoking it too fast because I was cold.
I agree. I think our definition of "Balkan" is a fairly recent one though. In the past, this would have just been called an "English Mixture" in spite of the Oriental tobaccos.
Do you use a different pipe when you try a new blend like this? And do you have specific pipes for American vs English for example? Fairly new to the hobby and I have a pipe that is finally seasoned from aromatics and not sure if I should use a different one when smoking English.
I don't taste the vanilla in VA. Gold. It has a mixture of toasted Cavendish, black Cavendish, & burley. It has a ribbon cut & whatever the other cut is called. You don't have to buy it. But, check out a bag in the store. Like RIte Aid
+carney79 - "Orientals" are tobacco varietals grown in the Near East (Turkey, Greece, etc.) and Balkans are often described as English blends with a high proportion of those Oriental tobaccos included in the mix.
@@stuffandthingsyoutube , Doesn't matter what you look like or your personal appearance. You're still "my good friend Bradley". And your tobacco Insight is greatly appreciated.
Well, if you had bothered to take the time to actually WATCH any of my reviews of Dunhill tobaccos, you would know that I explicitly state in each review that they are blended by the Scandinavian Tobacco Group which also blends Orlik. I happen to like Orlik as well. What of it? Anyway, I appreciate you pointing out how stupid and un-discerning "we Americans" are. I had forgotten.
