Maryland Pipefitter currently out of work. got alot of respect for plumbers as my father was a master plumber so meh. Union non-union its really all the same work. I tryed to get some experience before I went union then the economy went all to shit so hey fuck life. Now i make money doing side work... as a plumber... Luckily picked up a few tricks from the old man. Never say no to a trade. If you get a chance to learn to set a toilet fucking take it you never know might make you a buck one day.
First year plumber here laying pipe around journeyman pipefitters all day. I can use my knowledge in practical application and do side work. Pipe fitters are sitting on a bench and only work 1 month at a time because mechanical rooms are all they know.
Terry, I think you would be harder pressed to find a fitter who CAN'T figure offsets, that is a pretty big part of the job. Pretty much anyone can just stovepipe a bunch of straight lengths together. A good fitter needs to be able to make pipes fit in imperfect situations. Oftentimes custom making their own fittings since not everything is always a perfect 45° or 90°
Sprinkler fitters are just that i pulled 2 years in fire suppresion and quickly learned you can train gorrilas to do sprinkler pipe... and if any cocky sprinkler fitter wants to challenge they are better than a pipefitter i say take a video of you saddling a 10 inch pipe into another 10 inch pipe to create your own tee... see.. as a pipefitter i can do everything you do daily... can you do what i do?
tryharddaddio hard to do something you aren't capable of*. Fitters don't know any plumbing code or gas code. Do you have your gas ticket? probably not. I'm ticketed for plumbing and gas and I'm busy AF at work. Most of the fitters from Alberta are sitting at home on EI right now because of shit oil prices. Sorry if you think that's all plumbers do. I'm doing a full hydronic system on a multi use building right now. Never cleaned a drain in my life.
Here is the only math u need to know to be in a union. U know what the local number stands for in the unions? First number is manpower, second number is length of pipe put together, last number is hours taken to put pipe together. So if your local number is 562 it takes 5 guys to put together 6’ of pipe in 2 hours 😂😂😂.
Steamfitters' Local 250, Los Angeles, CA approves this message. Sh*tfitters: do not assume that all pipe is the same! I do not attempt to fix urinals... don't assume you can do anything worthwile to remedy our production.
Love it !! Pipe Fitters are gods... But in DC we hold all the licenses and I will Make My Master licenses work for me !! Turd Chasers Unite !! LU 5 Rocks !! A. Schadenfreude
Cummon gods of the trades? Really? I mean sure it's way better then a plumber, but heavy duty mechanics are the gods of the trades. We are fucking expected to know everything, our jobs often require little bits and pieces of all the other trades, and let's face it, I've seen what pipe fitters do to their shit, and it should almost be considered a miracle that we can get that picker truck or Trackhoe back working again.
local 494 long beach/los angeles california PLUMBER/WELDER but ill get my pipe fitters card too any monkey can fit some pipe together hahahaha shout out to all my Brothers in THE PIPE TRADES around the united states much love to all of u :)
Yeah a pipe fitter is a plumber and a plumber is a pipe fitter technically the same trade I'm a plumber that became a pipe fitter do you know what the difference was I just got retooled and the material from the pipe is different but I see no difference
Plumbers are not fitters. show me how to make an orange peel, eccentric, concentric reducer. saddle cuts, true mitor cuts. I'm not knocking you turd hurdlers but the statement I always hear "plumbers are basically pipefitters" is false. That's like saying marines are like rangers. Not even fucking close.
robert retka No mills plants etc have pretty much all outlawed them. Takes a lot of time and structurally ain't really up to code like a forged cap. I've built one but only for a temporary. Just like people are really pushing to do away with saddle cut outs for t's. Inspectors will bust it. Steam lines on heavy wall are pretty much no tolerance. Any mill I've been in they'll bust you for anything. No grinding disks or tiger paws. just your brush and it has to be a new one every single day. Any gouged areas around your bevel will be a bust and you'll have to cut it all back out. Steam lines are a pretty good though. Lots of money in the budget so you get a lot of good fitters and good welders. I've never been thinking of dragging up on a stainless job.
Christopher Eck lf you're going to dish it out, then you need to learn how to take it. You're way too sensitive to work in the trades. Go get a nice office job or something. I heard the people will be nice to you.
Just Look @ The Cover of EVERY ISSUE of the U.A Journal...., The Future is NOTHING but ADVANCED, Technical Piping.. Cover After Cover After Cover! Roll Call..., The Big 250 West of Mississippi! Straight Steam!
Laugh at the plumbers all you want, you are all going to be out of work soon as this country goes down the drain and we ship all the industry overseas. America is dying fast right in front of our eyes. Learn to speak chinese and you can go work over there for 50 cents a week...
Anybody can put pipe together but making a whole building supply water vent drain and receive fuel that’s what Separates a Plumber one of the oldest tradesmen from a pipe putter together
Sprinkler fitters aren't pipe fitters. You fucking kidding me. We make our pipe fit around everyone else's bullshit. Were the last ones to the job and the first ones out. For every one sprinkler fitter on the job there 10+ Of any other trade. Like were gods. We work faster than anyone else
