Piper Should Control the Mist 

Do you think Piper should have had magic?

That would be something cool to see if Piper gets her own standalone. And I feel like Rick is setting that up given her prominence in The Sun and Star.

Interesting theory, I totally forgot that Piper brought Festus to life. I never thought of charmspeak being similar to the mist. I mean Medea is a magic user and she almost charmspeaks Jason and Leo into fighting until Piper stops them. Personally I never got the hate towards Piper. I like that in Lost Hero she hates other people judging her because her father’s a famous actor and because she somehow has a criminal record despite never wanting to take anything. But she gains her confidence at the end of the quest. Also I thought charmspeak was versatile enough since it works on everyone from monsters to giants to gods, with some exceptions. It wakes Jason up when he’s falling to his death, it pushes away the roots that were holding Hera in Lost Hero, and it can trick minor gods into falling into a trap. Something else I feel is worth mentioning is that certain demigod abilities being magic isn’t unheard of in this universe. Shadow travel is stated to be magic. There’s also than evidence that demigods who aren’t children of Hecate or witches being able to have magical potential. Like Circe saying Annabeth had potential in Sea of Monsters.

I also had this hypothetical when thinking about the ways Heroes Of Olympus could've changed and I completely agree it would've an interesting direction to take for Piper's character concerning her powers. I can't remember if this was actually stated within the book, but the reason why Hazel was given her mist manipulation power by Hecate was to "put her on par with the rest of the Seven". Which is an odd sentiment in hindsight because Hazel with just her gem/earth powers was already very powerful to begin with. Now that I think about it, it would've been funny if in an alternate version of the story Hecate still summoned Hazel to offer her the mist powers and then Hazel's response was something like: "Nah, I'm good. I already strong enough as it is, but my friend Piper over here is always complaining about how weak and useless she is. Why don't you give these cool magical abilities to her?' Plus I feel as though Piper being an all around magic user would help better explain all the feats she accomplished throughout the series as well as illustrating why she doesn't rely on honing her combat skills, because her true strength lies within her magic. Charmspeak in of itself isn't a bad power for a character to have, but like how you mentioned in this video it does have some weird implications attached to it. It sucks because I've always liked the idea of Piper utilizing the emotion of love as a power source, which is what grants her access to these magical abilities. However, the way that's actually executed in canon just doesn't make any sense when you think about it too in depth. Overall, I am of the opinion that the Aphrodite kids just deserve better powers other than the ability to use beauty as a weapon or simply cursing people with clothes and makeup.

I’m of the strong opinion that Piper should have been a Pegasus-whisper (expert pegasus rider). Her charmspeak powers always seemed so bleak amongst the 7 ( I instantly started liking her character more when Hazel started teaching her how to use a sword) and quite honestly I would never be able to trust a person who uses charmspeak. How do I know you always have my best interest at heart??

im not convinced that charmspeak is mistrelated though. i seems to me (not having read past HoO yet tho, this might be disproven later) that its more like Percy being a waterbender or Jason being a waterbender: just demigods having some control or at least benefit from the element their parent is godding over. for Aphrodite that would be the heart, and it feels kinda like a leap to conclude that its about controling the Mist. (i might also be misremembering the specifics of charmspeak) that being said, i do think Piper could have had some control over the Mist, i just think thats separate from charmspeak. iirc Thalia is seen controling the Mist, suggesting its probably something demigods can more generally do to some extent. and given that Aphrodite appears different to everyone, suggests that there could be a stronger connection between Aphrodite and the Mist, than other gods, like Zeus. so... maybe?
