I like the table. Then I was in AWE of the table. THEN I'm pretty sure I fell in love with this guy when one of the compartments contained antique handcuffs. Yep, I'm in love. Or at least completely smitten with this guy. So fascinating! Then there's the table, don't get me started on how impressive that is...!

There is a mobile game called "The Room" which involves you solving various magical box type puzzles. I think if you played or watched someone else play the games (there's 3 or 4 by this point) you'd find some inspiration.

@@PDeRop 😂 you are probably right. According to RU-vid analytics 96.7% of my subscribers are male between 25 and 45. Unfortunately I definitely don’t appeal to women. And even the women who send me build requests are doing so on behalf of their husbands. It’s a shame. Oh well

Hi David I was hoping you could give me some direction on how to slow down a spring loaded drawer to a slow controlled motion (similar to the pop up chess board in this table) for a project I am trying to figure out. I realise a magician doesn't reveal their secrets but if you could point me in a general direction I would be very grateful. also on a side note love your videos and your inguinity with secret compartments.

Thanks! I highly recommend lift supports. They can slow a spring drawer down. The only thing to know about lift supports is that they are rated in Newtons of force so 100n= 22# I mostly use 100n and 45n lift supports otherwise they are way too strong. (I buy them on Amazon) (also check for compressed and extended lengths)

Really cool table! Idk if you like video games much, but there's one called The House of Da Vinci 2 on Steam that is a whole game about solving puzzles kind of like your puzzle boxes. If you're looking for ideas, playing that game might give you some.

Trial and error mostly. though I do watch a lot of how-to videos on RU-vid. I keep track of material costs, time spent and shipping to calculate total price. I haven't figured out price on this one yet.

No worries, thanks for watching my videos! on the pirate table I am probably close to 2k just in materials and a good 4 months of work. I do make smaller puzzle boxes sometimes they are in the 2-3 hundred and night stands with hidden compartments at 5-6 hundred. A rough price or cost calculator is (cost of materials ×3 +shipping)

I got the idea for this table while watching pirates of the caribbean. I keep notebooks and am constantly adding ideas into various categories.

@@janeway7953 I don't have the ability to take on even a small fraction of the custom requests but every so often I have someone ask me to build them something I already want to build so I will. I have yet to ship out of country. Owing to the freight cost being many more times the table cost.

I do! A lot of the hardware I have to make from scratch but some of it (the old hinges and skeleton keys) I buy at antique stores and some (screws, springs) at the local hardware store.

Maybe I might consider making one or have someone else do it considering I’m not a fan of doing woodwork myself. I don't have any drawn up plans but if you have any questions I will do my best to answer them. I am afraid the gravity on my tables is all wrong. if I shipped them to the other side of the world they might fall off of it. I would hate to have you spend all that money on shipping for no reason.

Is there a reason why you don't make tutorials about how to make such magnificent things? Your boxes look amazing for f*ck sake, let alone your table. It's nice to see you show it off, but if you could explain some of the steps of how to make the table, what wood to buy, how to build boxes, etc, you'd have 100k subs, instead of 1k.

You are right! I will start pumping out short tutorial videos. Filming a full build has been an editing nightmare.
