I won a championship once, when I was about 14. Yes, it was minor, and in the big leagues the World Series is *the* event and they are remembered all time for winning it, but the feeling of winning it. We walked off on a wild pitch believe it or not, and as we dog piled at the plate I remember yelling “we have won the World Series!” Because I was so delirious. That feeling the *moment* we won, the moment we became champs. Indescribable. No one can ever take it away.
Indeed. I was on a co-ed softball team in 2004 and we won our local championship. It was such an amazing feeling. When the Cubs won the World Series in 2016, it was truly humbling and life-changing. I remember saying afterwards that I hope every fan of every team gets to experience this just once. It truly is indescribable.
Not as cool as your moment. However was on a really awful Softball team that basically didn't win a game for 2 years straight in this league. However the last game of the season, we finally won a game and all dogged piled on each other like we won the series. It was a pretty cool feeling.
I played for many years in the minors, babe ruth league, and had my own softball team. In all and all a good 20 years, Made the All star team mostly every year but never won a championship. Played in a championship game and we lost when i played for Bristol Moose at 12 years of age. We lost bye 1 run! All these years later it still bothers me to this very day. I just wanted to taste victory and say were #1 I never got that opportunity ughhhhh. Congrats man!
WOW , wasn’t that poetic justice,, Pat Kelly making the final out to win it for the Pirates !!! 1979 was also the year I graduated from high school and got really interested in baseball.
It would be epic i think the 79 Pirates Would Win in 6 Games The 78 Yankees Had a really good team but the pirates had lots of hitters and beat a 102 orioles team coming back from 3-1
I was 19 when the Bucs won in 79. If my memory serves me right, didn't Pittsburgh and Baltimore play 8 years earlier 8 1971? Didn't Pittsburgh come back after being down 3-1?
No. Orioles lead that series 2-1, not 3-1. Orioles took a 2-0 series lead to Pittsburgh, but the Bucs won the next three to take a 3-2 series heading back to Baltimore. The O's won game 6 3-2 in 10 to force a 7th game.
Painful and catastrophic failure by the O's to close out a series. This would be a theme (except for 1983) in 1996, 1997, 2014, and all the other years we had a divisional lead and were unable to make it work. I love the Orioles, but so much bitter dissapointment....
For the SAME REASON I root for the Orioles, and our last was in 1983: It is in our blood, it is who we are, and most importantly we remember when BOTH of these teams were perennial contenders. Stick it out, it will happen....
