The thing at the beginning between Will and Elizabeth has to do with Social Class. Elizabeth is a Governor’s daughter, which pretty much makes her part of the gentry if not lower nobility; while will, even if he was not a pirates son, is a blacksmith and therefore part of the peasantry. No father would marry his daughter down the social ladder.

While the above is true, the reason Elizabeth got upset with Will and insisted that he call her Ms. Swan is because he didn't rise to the occasion and pursue a romance with her when she had made it known to him that she was willing. She just needed him to make the first move.

@@lordofillusionsam I missing something? I'm not going to go watch the movie again just to find out, so maybe someone can answer, but I though the problem was the opposite? She insists he calls her Elizabeth but he's overly respectful and calls her Miss Swann all the time instead? When does she insist that he call her Ms. Swann?

@@Rak9-j8h After her father asserts Will's lower class position in thanking him for the sword he made and presented. Because he didn't stand up for himself (and thereby disqualify himself from Elizabeth's affection in her eyes), she acts frosty towards him.

Possibilities as to why Stef reminds her friend of Captain Jack Sparrow: 1) Stef walks like Captain Jack Sparrow 2) Stef loves to drink rum 3) Stef was once marooned (or was it twice) on a Caribbean island 4) Stef gets slapped a lot by other women (and did or didn't deserve it) 🤔

@@robertsimon0306 ok say what you will about the 5th film, but it DOES have a lot to do with the first ones lol. It's about two of the main characters' children!! And they both unite to free the crew of the Dutchman + many others. It's definitely the worst POTC film but saying "it has nothing to do with the first films" is very wrong. :P

Yeah the thing with Elizabeth and Will is that they both clearly have feelings towards each other (since they've known each other since childhood). But because of the classism hierarchy, it'd be shameful for someone of Elizabeth's status to be romantically involved with a lowly blacksmith. So Will suppresses his feelings because he doesn't want to step out of line, and she suppresses her feelings because she doesn't want to disappoint her father. So her facial expressions show that she reluctantly tries to obey what's expected of her, instead of what she really wants (to be close with Will). Same dynamic as Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, Jack and Rose from Titanic...etc.

You’ve misinterpreted the Elizabeth and Will scene. It’s the other way round, he called her Miss Swan she didn’t like it, she wanted Elizabeth but he kept calling her Miss Swan (she is upper class after all)

@@ItsJaydenVc last 2 can be considered non canon as there are huge plot holes which contradicts the first 3 movies, like how Jack got the compass(we have seen in 2nd movie a story, and in the 5th movie other story). I think it's because Gore Verbinski didn't direct the last two movies

@stefsolari FYI, there is 5 Pirates of the Caribbean movies so far with Jack Sparrow : The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man's Chest, At World's End, On Stranger Tides & Dead Men Tell No Tales. All worth watching them in my opinion.

*Stef* The critics did complain about Sparrow carrying a pistol for years, in and out of the water, and still using it. Just one of the problems with it.

Elizabeth was pouting and angry with Will because he rejected her request to be called Elizabeth and not Ms. Swann. She’s a teen rebelling against authority, and while she has feelings for Will, his rigid adherence to societal standards contradicts with her need to rebel. Her “unnatural obsession with Pirates” is another clue that highlights how her personality contradicts with her status as the governor’s daughter.

*Solari* Love your reactions. It was nice to see an honest reaction, to this movie, without the casting stuff from the past few years being an issue. Loved that thunder coming through, it adds ambiance. I'm watching the rain come through in my kneck of the woods. Next time you have an emotional reaction, try watching the "Monsoon" series by "Mike Oblinski". I have a few other channels if you're ever interested.... ☮️

The scene were Will and Jack are under the Canoe in the water Orlando bloom started losing Oxygen and started speaking Elvies thinking he was back on set of Lord Of the Rings

25:30 No its the exact opposite: He called her Miss Swann, not Elizabeth - even so she told him before to call her Elizabeth. You have turned it upside down. The reason she's mad at him is that she wants him to come on to her and he just doesn't.

There's actually 5 POTC movies: "The Curse Of The Black Pearl", "Dead Man's Chest", "At World's End", "On Stranger Tides" and "Dead Men Tell No Tales". The first 3 movies tell one big overarching story that has a beginning, middle and end. The 4th and 5th movies are more like self-contained, standalone stories involving Jack Sparrow (and in most of the fans' opinion, they are kind of unnecessary movies, 'cause the story ended perfectly with the 3rd one).

Responding to 25:30 . Regarding Elizabeth feeling cold towards Will at the beginning, Elizabeth wanted Will to call her Elizabeth as a way of showing how close they should be. They've known each other for years and are friends but it seems Will has always taken a very formal approach to his relationship with her. So, she very politely and even playfully asks him to call her Elizabeth because she wants to reach that next level of intimacy. It's not necessarily romantic in the moment but you can think of it as Elizabeth imploring Will to see her as a potential romance, or even just a close friend, as opposed to treating their situation as a business like partnership. So, she says "call me Elizabeth" and Will immediately responds with "Miss Swan". She sees this as yet another rejection of a possible intimate relationship and responds by coldly calling Will, "Mr. Turner" as she leaves out of anger and maybe even a hurt acceptance of not being able to become close with Will, especially if he, of all people, was not open to it.

As to the relationship between Elizabeth and Will, they were from different classes. Elizabeth was the Governor's daughter and Will was just a lowly blacksmith. They both obviously had feelings for each other and, although Elizabeth asked Will to call her by her first name, Will insisted on behaving as he would have been expected to do- suppressing his feelings and calling her Miss Swann. I really like the character of Governor Swann. As he demonstrates at the end, and even more so in the next couple movies, he only wants his daughter to be happy, even if he feels she's making a mistake.

I agree with you about Elizabeth's father. In the beginning we are made to think that he's ignorant about what Elizabeth wants but in the end it is quite clear that he wanted her to marry Norrington because he is, as the father says, an honourable man, a good man and he's a career officer. In those times it was very uncommon to marry out of love. It is the logical thing for the father to marry her to someone who has a future ahead of him and who is also a good man (who will not hurt her, be good to her). In the end he accepts that it's not what she wants and let's her be with Will.

Elizabeth is very standoffish and cold towards will in the romantic sense because they are a different class. She's nobility, he's a common blacksmith, in that day and age he would be considered to be beneath her. She doesnt really see it that way, but she has been raised to act a certain way. The conversation with her maid about it is a good example of how it would be seen as "improper". As always though, easily the best movie reaction content out there, keep it up ^^

All the 5 movies have post credits scenes. The post credits of the first movie explains how Jack the Monkey was still under the Azstec Curse in the remaing movies, because he grabbed one coin from the chest again.

As others have said, Elizabeth was standoffish with Will because he, in the presence of her father, had to adhere to the social norms of him as a (albeit skilled) peasant and her as the daughter of an elected official. Elizabeth was annoyed by this because she doesn’t want to let social status keep them apart. Will feels the same but he’s being pretty realistic about things - no respectable governor would let his daughter marry a peasant.

Worth noting (tho I suppose it's been mentioned already) there's also a scene at the end of the credits. Believe that might be the case for all the movies, I know for sure this one had one 'end of credits scene'. So check that one. And if/when you watch the other movies, remember to check the end of the credits too - just in case.

Your question about what the next two movies were going to be. That was the same question the writers had when they found out Disney wanted sequels. They never planned for one, and talked about it in the commentaries on the second movie. I remember seeing this in theaters and going in with rock bottom expectations. Coming out of it so happy. This is an incredible film. The next two may not be as good, but they’re still a lot of fun to watch with some amazing moments. Regarding the Elizabeth and Will scene earlier. It’s a social class issue. She’s from very high class and he’s more more worker/peasant class. It’s considered disrespectful to be too familiar with the upper class. She’s trying to be close and friendly, getting her to call her my her given name, like a friend. He’s trying to be respectful to her social status, especially in front of her father. Will’s refusal felt like a rejection of her kindness and hurt her feelings.

The same 'situation' arose during the first half when the maid mentioned Will, Elizabeth scolded her - not because she didn't have feelings, but because the 'help' isn't someone she would confide personal details with. Stef also seemed confused by that interaction. I don't think Elizabeth felt 'hurt' by Wills refusal but irritated because he didn't 'step up to the plate' and remained 'beta'.

I adore these three movies of the franchise, Curse of the Black Pearl was actually the first movie I watched in English, with no dubbing in my language :) and also it came out the same summer I first watched the Lord of the Rings (and fell in love with it forever), so seeing Orlando again was such a treat😄 so it has a special place in my heart!
