It does indeed; been running it on Windows 7 for some time now. If you are having issues, be sure to post on our forum. As for your notes on PotBS, indeed we do have those ship models, which have been given to us by their original modelers and have been reused with full permission. They're good models, so why not have them? We've got a lot of ships that aren't in PotBS though and the games are not the same either.
The Sword of Triton gives the ship a temporary speed burst regardless of wind direction. So you could, for example, use the Sword to sail straight into the wind, which your enemies would not be able to do. This is similar to the Run Our Sweeps ability of the Black Pearl.
Apart from both games feature pirates, there aren't many similarities between this one and At World's End. The latter is a linear hack-and-slach game, while this is an open-ended Role Playing Game with lots of freedom. The original 2003 game had virtually nothing to do with the PotC film license, but the modpack does add a lot of that. But also a lot of OTHER stuff. You CAN play as Blackbeard commanding the Queen Anne's Revenge, for example.
Should have known you'd like Davy Jones. He's based on the At World's End model. Unfortunately we've got literally nobody who knows how to do character modeling, so we're stuck with what we've got on that. We have been discussing changes to the Build Default controls, but haven't been able to come up with a proper good system yet. We'd welcome input on the forum though. Agreed that the defaults are.... rather weird.
All the good old content remains, but a lot of new content is added. The original storyline is still there, of course. With some improvements and new sidequests too.
Many people did buy this game because of our mod. Anyway, that is beside the point. We're not in it for money; we just want to make it as good as it can be. It's not perfect, but we do try and it is infinitely better than it was. Not sure what AWE models you're looking at; the ship models we added are some of the best you'll ever find. Characters could indeed use more detail, but that is what we were given.
We'd definitely like a new trailer to be done. Requires someone to do it though and we've got only a few people working at the game in their spare time. Not sure what FOV is, but we have been talking about redoing the interfaces to appear better on widescreen resolutions.
Thanks. We really try hard. :) We already are working on the Empress from the third movie. Just one more thing we thought was impossible that we are bringing to reality.
Gray textures sounds like a definite installation problem. We'd be very happy to help you out with that, but it is rather awkward doing so on RU-vid. Recommend posting at our Support Forums instead. Link in video description above. How did you choose Blackbeard as a starting character? He's not one of the default starting options and customize Select Storyline interface isn't in a release version yet.
3. Depends on how quickly we can get all the kinks ironed out. If our luck holds out, we might be able to release non-beta version some times this year. 4. As it stands now, new character models will not be added. We are more concerned with fixing what we've got at the moment anyway. But if the chance does crop up, we'll try to swap out more character models. It's definitely on the wish-list of things we'd like to do when we can.
Tell that to Disney. Pirates of the Caribbean was Sea Dogs 2 before it was hijacked as a movie tie-in. It never was meant to be a PotC game, which is also the reason why the unmodded game had virtually no movie content at all. We added a film story and nearly all of the important characters and ships, including their special abilities for the people who like that sort of stuff.
Work still continues on New Horizons. We recently managed to fix a few long-standing errors and of course there'll be plenty of new ship model work too. For example, all Corvette models are being updated with even more detail. At the moment we are getting things ready for Build 14 Beta 2.4, to be released perhaps within a month.
Problem with torrents is that we need people to seed it. We tried before, but it didn't work. We're working on releasing Beta 3 soon, which will hopefully have a better installation process if we can make that work. Can't make it smaller than it is, but we've got to split it into multiple downloads anyway. Perhaps that helps. Tailor ships are there for players who want to swap their or their officers' models. You might want to have some different to look at, no?
ah cool thanks! And also, will there be a storyline for davy jones? Kind of annoys me going to isle de muerte buying the dutchmen there, so will there be any chance of a beta/patch for that?
1. We're very close to having it ready for release. Still need to sort out the encounter code and we're hoping for some further interface textures and island models to be improved soon. Plus we have to figure out an improved installation process. 2. A lot. Check our ModDB page for a preview of some of the new stuff. You should like the Curse of Cortéz functionality, which allows you to get cursed like Barbossa and his crew.
As said, have a look at the FAQ on our forum. Do you have the game in your Program Files, for example? That generally messes up the installation because Windows security measures are stricter in that folder and disallow the overwriting of the files that need to be overwritten.
We have never claimed that our work is "PotC film only". Very much the opposite, in fact. We aim to add as much variety as possible, so that means PotC film stuff but also real historical content. We have navy storylines and puzzle storylines and historical storylines and much more. Would be a shame to limit ourselves to only one source of inspiration when there is so much more potential for different things. We're trying to give as many different people as possible what they would like to see.
We're still waiting for the English release of Pirates Odyssey: To Each His Own. It is in the works, but we've got no idea when it will be released. From what we've seen, they've indeed got some pretty good stuff in there.
I have enjoyed the original game since I was a child, have more recently enjoyed the New Horizons mod very much, and I am very enthusiastic as to whether or not more is to come in the future. Is any work still being done on this? What all is being done, if you do not mind me asking?
At least several thousand people beg to differ on your opinion of this game. The original wasn't very good, but we've spent 10 years addressing that. We'd like to make a fully new stand-alone game and, in fact, are attempting to do so. In any case, have you ever played this game with modpack? For being that critical about our efforts, you do need to have a solid basis for it. If there are specific gameplay issues you have a problem with, those can be addressed.
No need for asslicking nor for insulting. Just being reasonable is all that's needed. 1. Not entirely sure what you mean there. 2. You can change the default controls in the game menu. Are there any specific changes you have in mind? 3. The game runs fine in 1600x900. Just edit engine.ini in your main game folder manually with Notepad. Set screen_x and screen_y to your desktop resolution. Recommend setting fullscreen to 0 to allow Alt-Tabbing in and out.
If you post on our forums, we can help you with technical support and such. We've got a FAQ detailing the most common problems and how to enable error logging that should be useful.
I have a problem witht the Build 14 Dauntless and Endeavour. The bottom sails on the fore and main masts seem to be scaled bigger than they should be (they are so big that they cover the foresail). Im not really a coder for these types of games. (I run the B14 ships in AOP). please help because i have no access to the piratesahoy community. I think i've localized to be the scale of the rey's (GM file) scale rendering in ships_init.c, but i don't know how to fix it. -Ajsliter
That works fine. Though Windows Security Stupidity can make the installation process be a bit challenging at times. Make sure to install OUTSIDE Program Files!
You should be able to install on top of Build 13, but that will leave some useless files. If you can do a clean reinstall, that would be better. The PotC Build Mod does have a Capture Colonies mod already included, but it doesn't work 100% right.
If you're not afraid of a little bit of easy coding, it's easy enough to change the starting ship and character model for any existing storyline in PROGRAM\Storyline\[Name of Storyline].c . Change the following: sl.(sn).start.model = "DavyJones"; sl.(sn).start.name = "Davy"; sl.(sn).start.lastname = "Jones"; sl.(sn).start.ship = "CursedDutchman"; sl.(sn).start.shipname = "Flying Dutchman";
As for "only one PotC related character", that is enough for us. We like variety. It all depends on what the modders are willing to add. Many of us aren't even PotC film fans and like the game for whole different reasons.
Lots of the comments on the original game were negative, yes. And rightly so. It had great potential, but turned out as a rush-job. That's one of the main reasons we've been doing what we do: To make it live up to what it could have been. Which most assuredly IS there. If you care to see it. If you don't see it, that's a shame, but so be it. There are plenty who do and they have every right to it.
I am kinda stuck with the Horatio Hornblower story line. I'm at the part when Maria says yes to the marriage but I don't know what to do next. Is there somewhere a walktrough or can someone give me a tip what to do?
Why we chose it? Because it is fun and we like doing it. Most games are presented as-is. You can't mod AWE or Assassin's Creed. You are, of course, entitled to your own opinion. But you seem to be looking at this from the wrong perspective. There is a massive amount of gameplay in our work. Lots of scripted stories and free-play. Different historically accurate time periods. Don't think any other pirate games have that.
The people writing the stories write the stories that they want to write. Apparently they care more about non-PotC stuff. Can't force them to do something that they don't want to. If we tried to do that, we'd very quickly have no modders left. As Jack and Mr. Gibbs would say: "Take what you can." "Give nothing back!"
SMP is indeed much closer to the type of game that we aim for than AWE is. Our modders have already take much inspiration from it. One of the things we've recently been looking into, for example, is adding actual Spanish Treasure Fleets carrying gold and silver to the random encounters. From what I saw of that game, though, it was very arcadey and repetitive. That is what we do try to avoid. But there are many good ideas there, that's for sure.
Hello, PiratesAhoyCommunity, your mod is really great and I play it evry day, but I dont get the water quality as good as in the video, pls help me. PS: My graphiccard is a NVidia GeForce, so i think the Intelgraphic Fix wont help.
Install the modpack as per the instructions in the Build 14 Beta 2.1 installer. If you actually want to do your own modding to the game, please register on the PiratesAhoy! forums (see link in the video description above) where we can help you much better.
Unfortunately RU-vid doesn't allow us to post links, but go to our main PiratesAhoy! website, then click on "Wiki" > QUEST / STORY WALKTHROUGHS and that should give you all there is to know.
Yes! I am not allowed to sign up by my parents order. though i use the resorces inj the forum alot and it would be nice to let users wright a comment or a queation using an anonymus Dname. many people like me hve modded these games and are denied access to sign up to the forum.
The tailor shops are technically "model" shops. Indeed it doesn't make much sense, especially not the part where you can literally change the gender of your character and officers by doing so. But it offers more freedom to the players than if every character would be stuck looking the same all the time. All ships are unique with their own stats, so they'll all handle like realistically they should. Many of the film ships have their own unique abilities too.
I think the only thing you guys need to improve on is making the storylines a little more noobie friendly. Perhaps add a tutorial, and then make the storylines a little more straightforward. I love the game, but it can be difficult to continue with the story sometimes.
The mod ruins the game? What are you saying? While it indeed is a mod for an existing game, it adds enough content to be considered multiple new games all in one. With several different time settings, much improved open-ended gameplay and a whole bunch of scripted new storylines, it can be nothing less.
You do have the original game, right? If not, let us know. It'd be so much nicer if we COULD make it stand-alone. Windows Security Stupidity just KEEPS messing up people's installation process.
+Tuan Huynh It is edited together from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End by Hans Zimmer. The middle is "Up is Down" and it concludes with "He's a Pirate".
It does indeed; been running it on Windows 7 for some time now. If you are having issues, be sure to post on our forum. As for your notes on PotBS, indeed we do have those ship models, which have been given to us by their original modelers and have been reused with full permission.
