As a percussionist in a school orchestra I can appreciate just how damn good everyone here is. Synchronised bowing, on point snare drum that you can hear over EVERYTHING and it's still perfect. I'm 17 and I've been playing the flute for 9 years. I know how to play this piece and I play it a lot, but I can assure you that the level of synchronisation that this piece requires, particularly between your breath, your fingers and the speed at which your eyes have to read the score is technically very difficult. Super well performed. In High School, while taking AP Music Theory, I spent months arranging a few songs from the movie in an anthem like this, as I found the energy and rhythms unbelievably fun. My band director wouldn't allow it to be played because he was a clarinet player and wouldn't allow anything not "winds forward." It felt really great, both as a trumpet player and after months of work (and no mentorship from him). I fell out of love with music because of that teacher, after 15 years of playing, and didn't continue in college. I've literally never had another teacher push me out of one of my loves - but the band hall at the high school is getting dedicated to him next week, ironically enough. It makes me happy to see young kids getting to play these pieces and to do so well, and I envy their experience in many ways.
