Yes! This is the one eurovision song I remember and randomly listen to. Plus the fact we gave it 10 points and then Ireland gave it 12 points makes my day 😂
My reaction, exactly. Missed the Eurovision shows of 07 08 and 09, and saw this gem in a video. I was like, I know this song. The alestorm version is so much though, better vocals, and beter instruments.
i'm the opposite, I know this song first before I know Alestorm, I'm surprised when this song covered by Alestorm, and their version is so good and yes they should represent the UK
That's what Eurovision is all about - having fun, mixing with people, and expressing yourself. They did really well that year (although I believe Russia won it?)
@@filippomazziotto6024 e il bello è che l'ho scoperto da poco che roberto meloni è italiano, io pensavo addirittura che fosse un *uomodicoloreperevitareinsulti* tipo americano-
I’m absolutely obsessed with this song, it’s so uplifting, cheesy, fun & amazing, it’s my guilty pleasure & I have absolutely NO shame about it😂 This was so robbed!
It has some similarites to the Swedish band Rednex that had some hits (like Cotton Eye Joe) in the 90s. "Wolves Of The Sea" was originally written by 4 Swedes and sent to the Swedish national selection "Melodifestivalen", to be performed by the band Drängarna with some other lyrics, in Swedish. It was rejected, but found it´s way to Eurovision anyway, with Latvia, and did much better than the Swedish entry that year, "Hero".
@@more17 Yeah, they're Swedes, and they actually competed in Melodifestivalen in 2006. With "Mama Take Me Home", a less catchy song than "Cotton Eye Joe".
Love ❤ this catchy uplifting ❤ pop song 🎵 ❤ we need more of these. Eurovision isn't the same without them. Brilliant catchy tune Brilliant singers and dancers 👌 😀 👏 👍 ❤
The song is amazing, but you can clearly see that all the shenanigans on stage were wearing them out, and their voices weren't in very good shape by the end of it.
This is such a fun entry and its even funnier knowing the UK gave them 12 point...well you could say the British know something about piracy... JK but it's still funny.
I saw this only once as I was 7 years old. But I still remembered it well enough to find it in 2019 haha. It has been stuck in my mind all the time for 12 years... Unbelieveble
This was my all-time favorite that year, even tho I had a lot of favorites that year, this was the best one, and I used to have a crush on the front lady with the high-heeled boots and the big hat who is the other main singer. I just thought she was so beautiful to me and I loved pirates as a kid so this song was mine to keep forever.
all of u saying u were searching for alestorm.... meanwhile this song helped me discover alestorm and now they are one of my fave hands... funny how the world works
They really need to grace us with putting this of Spotify because I like the random metal cover of this song I have in my playlist by itself but it's just not the same
People can complain all they want, but in my opinion, not everything has to be super high class, but I wouldn't call everything that is not high class garbage, because there does have to be a certain degree of quality. This may not be high art, but as far as I'm concerned, it's a good song, because it's catchy, energetic and clearly made to have fun with while joking around. Trust me, I've seen entries to Eurovision that were much worse and were more genuinely insulting, this at least tried to have fun and joke around.
Show this to someone who knows about Moldova’s meme-worthy performances in Eurovision. They’ll think is is Moldova if it wasn’t for the big words ‘LATVIA’ on the screen. Love it. 💃🏴☠️🇱🇻🇬🇧❤️
I was going through my old CDs and found this on some “kids pop compilation” and I had to go to Spotify because I recognised and then I realised it was form my favourite competition to ever occur….
I remember singing the chorus the Monday morning after the Eurovision final to my Latvian co-worker Edgars, he had a chuckle at my futile attempt to sound anywhere near half-decent musically 😂😂
Oh yeah! This interpretation lacks punch in the chorus section, the music is a very simple jukebox and it doesn't have much feeling. Simple test: listen (no video) to both songs.
ani780, Alestorm is a awesome metal band from scotland who basically created the genre of pirate metal, they are the most pirate you can get with their songs about grand quests, wenches rum and midgets. They made an amazing cover of this song better than the original imo.
