Just a quick video of a small road trip. Though this is in 21:9, I shoot everything in 3:2 6k open gate, for the flexibility and extra dynamic range.
I didn't have the camera rigged out for this. No rig, Barebones, and no IBIS or stabilization in post.
Gear used: XH2s + Sirui 23mm
Also, I was being as safe as possible while filling on the road; I know, it's not a good practice. I made sure to not look at the camera after giving quick, occasional exposure-checks. From there, everything was adjusted without needing to look at the camera. There are others on the road, and the love of my life in the car (who doesn't drive), so I took the spray & pray approach with the driving shots lol. I would say, 99% of my attention was locked on the road, barely even viewing the scenery. I'm happy the shots turned out alright. She actually has a decent eye and filmed some shots for me on a roadtrip in the past. Though, I need to train her a little for my style haha. I'll be sure to do that, so we can be even safer in the future.

01:24 might be one of the nicest shots I have seen in a while. I don't know, something with the gradations in the skin tones and the blues and the greens speaks to me. It looks hyperrealistic!

loved it! I'm an absolute beginner creator too and I'm looking to purchase this lens! Curious if the length of time for which the text is displayed on screen is a delieberate choice. I couldn't read it quickly enough so I paused it to read. I find this to be the case in most movies as well. Do you reckon it's a design choice? Anyway.. thank you for creating!

Thank you! Yes, that was a deliberate choice. I like to do that when the information isn’t vital. If it were, I would’ve left it up a little longer.

Thank you brother, I appreciate you and your support! This video was filmed with the XH2s, but I have used the XH2 for video as well. My first few videos posted were filmed with it. It is a capable video camera in its own right, but certainly more suitable for photo than video. I owned it since its release before switching to the H2s some months ago. I love them both and only switched as I do mainly video, which calls for a more video-centric hybrid camera.

@@Eyeofkamau Yessir ! If I got the XH2, I probably would never use it for video though. I usually run the Panasonic S5ii for video. I would just like having it just in case, currently trying to pick between the XT5 and XH2. We'll see tho ! Thanks for the response.

Looks like a really nice lens. I like the flare and how it did not get washed out when you pointed it to the sun.

Yes, the flares have an interesting look, and the lens handles contrast and color information well when shooting into the sun, especially for the price point. The lack of any noticeable focus breathing amazes me as well. I’ve always loved a nice, stable focus pull.

@GlennUpgraded they’ve got the 16mm and 75mm lenses coming soon! They may come to the Nightwalker series first, but since the Nightwalkers and Snipers share the same glass, I’d say we can expect them to come to the Sniper Series too. CineD, who works close with Sirui, said Sirui confirmed they are coming. I also recently spoke with a fellow filmmaker who partners with Sirui; he told me Sirui is sending the two lenses to him for review soon.

Nice vid. At 2:30-2:38 you play around with focusing on different leaves from the tree, was this AF or MF? I ask because the focus pull seems very gently and slow, not quick, sudden and jarring. If it is AF it appears the Sirui lenses are able to take advantage of the AF.C Custom settings (Tracking and Sensitivity)? My experience with non native Fuji glass is they cannot take advantage of this menu item, for example my Sigma 18-35+FringerIII adapter, it ignores it completely regardless of values given (and so did an older viltrox lens I once had), all they can do is pretty quick focus shifts. But if you used AF here for this moment then it suggests to me that Sirui are supporting this feature (yay). If it is not AF at this scene but MF then you did very well :)

Hey Eddie, thanks! Yes, that was all AF. I always prefer natural looking focus changes, so I’ve set mine to where it looks like a smooth manual pull. From my experience, these lenses tend to be the most responsive to Fuji’s AF custom settings compared to other 3rd party lenses I’ve used. I actually can’t remember if my old viltrox lenses worked with the AF custom settings, but I know the Sigmas and Tamrons do. Unfortunately any lenses that are adapted with something like a fringer adapter aren’t able to make the use of the custom settings.

How did you colour grade the video. Did you use any LUTs?

Yes, I use Phantom LUTs and grade in DaVinci Resolve

I meant to say there's a correction on the title. The grade on this is so beautiful. The natural halation that comes with the lens looks great! Have you tried its autofocus?

@@eldricarpilleda ooh thanks haha! My iphone and mac have autocorrected that about 20 times on me today. Thank you for the kind words 🙏🏽, all of this was captured with AF. It works very well!

I have the studio version, but you don’t need it to edit footage shot with those codecs

Hey there! Always great to see someone from the So Cal community here. Simi Valley is gorgeous; I visit quite often. You all definitely have beautiful trails and some of my favorite sunsets viewpoints. I love history. Do you have any museum, landmark, or any historical site recommendations?

@@Eyeofkamau yeah I saw a TV program once said we are top 10 (or so?) in USA for sunsets, with the valley hills and 'unobstructed' 30mile view to the coast, not many places have that I guess. no specific Simi sites you dont see on google.. but I just found out about Chumash Indian Museum in TO. I need to go checkout. just finding my happy place with my XH2s riging :) Cheers

Top 10, wow! I was searching for more places to visit after we took this trip and the Chumash Museum was one that caught my eye. There’s so much to see in California. I was born here and I’m still discovering new sites to see.
