For aluminum can designs, really. Tudor does better. "This gold or that gold?", really? Any innovation or what, what do people put in these spendings? Have any of them ever touched the good grass?
As "I Like Watches" RU-vid channel clearly shown, Rolex' quality is worse than San Martin's. The latter wanted to send me their most expensive piece for $60, shipping included. Now evaluate.
@@GEMSofGOD_com Most San Martin watches are in the $200-$300 bracket though... and their most expensive watch was over $1500, so the "most expensive for $60" was either a very long time ago or simply not true. Also, Gary from ILW was recently gifted a genuine Submariner, so whilst he does compare the finishing, etc. I doubt he'd get rid of his Rolex now. (Also let's not forget that the Chinese brands basically exist to just churn out copies of other people's designs, which is something I'm really not comfortable with...)
@@outcastkatsuki I'm definitely a liar. Have you heard that Swiss watches usually put 5% at max in production? Same case. And you know what? I refused. I like Beauty and Design. It's not even about originalty.
@@franky3fingers337 People can't imagine that because most people here would never be able to afford it. Wearing an expensive watch and being oblivious to your surroundings doesn't make you a 'real collector', it shows how insensible you are to money.
This video had an overtone of disdain throughout, and I'm here for it. Your videos are overwhelmingly neutral or even handed or even admiring in tone. It's good to change it up, and Rolex can handle it. Thanks for the video! And thanks to the owner for letting us see it in your video!
Rolex is a fantastic company. For centuries, alchemists have unsuccessfully tried to turn lead into gold. Then comes Rolex, who transforms 3 000 € worth of gold and steel bits and pieces into an object some individuals are ready to pay €200 grands for. Sellers are happy, buyers are happy, the seller’s banker is happy because his client is richer, the buyer’s banker is happy because he can lend money to his client. The world is a better place.
The Le Man is simply perfect. Regular steel Daytonas in their current form look boring to me. If they made a stainless steel version of the Le Man with the same look, I'd be trading in my other pieces to get it.
This watch is beautiful, and yet completely out of touch for what any normal person would consider wearing considering its value. Breaks my heart to see these sort of watches stowed away like a late 90s beanie baby, never to see the light of day due to its perceived value.
I know it’s a big NoNo in the watch community, but I am so glad Clean Factory is already working on a replica of this particular watch. When it comes out I am going to buy it and wear it like I stole it.
@@chuckcharles5963 ive got a clean 116500. love it everytime i put it on. no shame here. Only the watch community will shame people for wanting a replica of something unobtainable. Imagine shitting on someone for having a Picaso print hanging on their wall. Silly shit really.
@@chuckcharles5963 thats why i always say the true watch nerds love and use reps. The pretentious, ego-driven type are the ones that will shit on you. They dont love watches, they love stunting. And they get mad butthurt at people taking the backroads. They love to make it something more than it is. A damn wrist accessory.
@@Megatraum504true watch nerds can appreciate great watches without owning a fake copy of them. You are misguided. I can totally appreciate a great work of art without owning a fake copy. If you would really appreciate the people making the original, you wouldn’t give money to people stealing their IP.
@@koolpep Bad analogy bro, considering that real fans of great artists all around the world spend money on print reproductions of their iconic artworks all the time. A re-print of the mona lisa takes nothing away from the original, and if it makes the re-print owner happy to have it on their wall, why on earth would you care or pass judgement?
Commenting before I even watch: today is a great day bc there is a new You’re Terrific vid uploaded! Love the style so much. Don’t change, stay terrific.
You lost me at “I do enjoy Paul Newman cookies.” Have you ever tried Newman-O’s? They’re incredible. Their very existence should be a crime. But back to watches, I really wish Rolex made the watch that many want (this Rolex in SS). White gold is dumb. I’m guessing Rolex made this in white gold because it keeps the Rolex hype machine going at full tilt. There’s no way that selling small batches at $50k is more profitable than millions at $15k.
Rolex aren't marketing this watch as a $250,000 watch. It's how the market works, but that's not the same as marketing. Sellers can ask whatever price they want, and you, as a customer, can decide not to buy the item for that price. When the supply starts exceeding the demand, the prices will come down. For $ 250,000 the demand should be pretty low.
I just can't unsee the fact that the left and right subdials don't line up with the horizontal center line. They are both ever so slightly above, and so they look offset from the 9 and 3. Hopefully you can't unsee it now, either, dear reader.
Sugess makes a shockingly good homage of this watch at a fraction of the price. The SL-4801 Peacock movement is pretty damn good (considering it's a clone 4130 movement).
Buy Rolex tool watches (not Daytonas) used in Japan. 39mm MKII Explorer, 5 digit Explorer II, discontinued GMT LN, green OP 41 all within 20% of US retail (which for me is within 10% if I pay CA sales tax) and all within past 30 months. A weak yen is a huge gift to US and EU buyers.
Why they'd take it out of production so quickly is luxury marketing 101: maintaining an air of exclusivity. It's especially important for Rolex because the first justification most folks have for buying what's not nearly the best watch for the money (other than status signaling, which few say out loud) is that they hold their value and that only happens with restricted supply. That they now can control the supply of 2nd-hand watches AND reap the even higher profits of the used market does even more to justify any revenue lost on the individual sales of new watches had they kept it in production.
One day Rolex watches will be worth zero dollars. Of course that will probably be the collapse of civilization. At that point, most of us will be strapped to the bumpers of cars racing through the desert in some desperate battle for the last of earth's gasoline. I can't wait to finally beat the wait list!
I like the Daytona because it's thin for a Chrono and 40mm. But all the crap you would need to go through is not worth it. My new grail watch would be a Zenith el primero or I like the tag glass box. Unless there's a thinner Chrono out there will the a date window for 5k? Any suggestions?
man you are lucky to hold this watch, let alone wear it for a few days. the AD in my city had one on display but they wouldn't even take it out of the case to to let people try it on
F**K Rolex. Begged for years to get an OP for my 30th Birthday, ADs won't even give me the time of day. Just a shell of what the company used to be. Gladly give my money to Tag, Cartier, Tudor, anyone else who "allow" me to buy a watch.
The moment I saw pictures of this watch when they announced it, I knew it would be discounted in a couple months. I give applause to them for produce it for a year.
We kill to live and live to die.If we stay here we die. We have nothing to lose. We must explore the lands beyond the ice wall and center of our Plane directly under Polaris at Magnetic North to see if Hyperborea exists and if there is a portal out of this no win situation.
My grandfather used to be an AD in the 70’s - 80’s, and Rolex was always impossible to get for many of its most popular models. He said they just flew off the shelf, as soon as he got them in the store. The demand is there and the supply tries to keep up… just not for this Daytona. Honestly though, every company does limited editions. But if Rolex specifically stated it was a catalogue piece and then went back on it, that’s a serious slight to the customer base.
I honestly don't know why you'd buy any other non-bezel Rolex over an OP. Same movement, almost the same case as the EX1 and DJ and way cheaper. Hopefully you get it soon.
@@Anonymouslyme1 The first part of your patronising comment is correct the second part is offensive and total bollocks. Who do you think most superclone Rolexes are sold to? Yeah that's right owners of the real thing. I have a superclone Submariner and it's one of the best watches I have ever had including real Rolex watches, Tudors, Breitlings etc.
Rolexes are aluminum cans anyways. Whoever buys a real or a fake doesn't get the BEAUTY some $15 Steve Madden with gorgeous fleur-de-lis dial and CZs, TOP STOCK PERFORMER of the last two decades, deliver.
It’s unfortunate if you are caught on the hype train. FOMO and group dynamics often lead to us chasing for things our heart isn’t really into. But with time being confident in your own choices and not buying things for others but yourself will win! You can do it!
I can't tell you how happy I am that the title of this video isn't click bait where you then Uno Reverse Card us and talk about why Rolex is awesome. This is just an actual rant about what's wrong with Rolex and watch collecting. I love it. I feel seen.
This watch appears to have a flawed dial. Does anyone else notice how the indices and numerals on the LH sub-dial are thicker and not uniform with the indices and numerals on the other two sub-dials? Very, very unusual to see an inconsistency like this on a Rolex dial.
It's among the rarest production Daytonas ever made. Five years from now todays gray market price of $250k will look like a cheap price for this watch.
It is a testament to your mental health that you managed to resist ripping off the plastic for the week you had the watch. I could not have managed that.
I think you are correct. Rolex under estimated the extra work the movement and clear case back would take to produce. Congrats to those who purchased from an AD!
I'm with you on a lot of things you've mentioned but at RRP Rolex offers very accurate and durable watches with a timeless design. The build quality in most cases is flawless. You can't argue with that. The availability and the way the grey market takes advantage of this is really what makes people unhappy.
I just wish it had pump pushers.. I've had a screw down pusher and I don't like them much prefer the pump pushers. I do like the see through case back.
The Daytona's namesake, the Daytona 24hr Race where the winner gets a Rolex Daytona, is also shockingly 24hrs just like LeMans. Makes you wonder about that 24hr register...
I dont get the dismay with it only being available for 10 months. It's an anniversary watch, so naturally, it will only be available in the anniversary year itself...
For real. Rolex bracelets feel like silk on the wrist. Even neo-vintage oyster bracelets blow away a lot of modern brands in terms of how it feels on the wrist.
@@HamishCarpenter my watch guy could not tell the difference and is ordering one.i have ordered one at a time,4 times always have received.2 omegas and 2 rolexes.guess stainless and obviously not gold
this channel should have millions of subs. The commentary is absolutely amazing. I disagree with the notion that Rolex doesnt make great watches. They are durable, fashionable and frankly you cannot be a watch person without loving Rolex. However, yes I agree. F&C% ROLEX
It seems Rolex has become more gimmicky over the past decade or so. Releasing watches with limited runs is not a part of their past, that I know of. They essentially did a LE watch with this Le Man without saying it. Getting a Rolex is one thing but they also seem to have rich collectors in mind with some releases.
Solution, buy a regular Daytona and swap the dial. I get that it would piss some people off, but fuck em, you can always swap the dial back before selling
He's probably the only owner in this country that didn't list this watch on the secondary used market. MOST of these watches ended up sold for 7 times it's listed price. Just like most Daytona watches (who are offered & sold to guys who really didn't ask for a Daytona) end up in the used market. There are more Daytona's for sale or sold than in use, in a sock drawer, or in a collection.
I have a question… you said Rolex doesn’t make the toughest watches… I understand that statement comparing it to a quartz watch but what mechanical watch is tougher and what tests are there that show that? I’m sort of curious since my dream watch has been a Rolex because I see so many vintage models still around that I figure that they are really robustly built. Even the guy from wristwatch revival says they are a really robust movements.
All true but man that’s a beautiful watch! It’s amazing how companies can make the perfect products but choose not to to keep ppl coming back for more. This was the perfect marketing tool. Create a perfect Daytona and then discontinue it so that everyone wants it so they keep their eyes peeled to future releases in case they can get one someday. The standard Daytona is great too but knowing they can make it that much better and they don’t blows my mind and show how powerful this brand is. You are so right. Rolex does not make the best watches, nor the best value, nor the prettiest, or best fitting - none of them. But overall, the quality, resale value, prestige, technology, robustness, history and much more creates a special feeling and I’m sorry to say it but Ii love the feeling of a Rolex on my wrist over any watch even if it is not my favorite. It makes me excited to wear my Rolex pieces. I feel complete and content! Weird but true
One of the best Rolex designs they've come out with in the past 40 years but screw down crowns are anachronistic, they're no longer needed to achieve a good water resistance
10 months in the market,,,,I didn't even see the real watch yet, and they discontinued talking about unicorn watch LOL I am not a big fan of Daytona, but for this one ,,,I will make an exception 😂😂😂
