Ketamine has become the generation-defining drug for young Brits.
A report from November 2020, stated one in 30 young people admitted to taking the drug in the past year - the highest number since records began and far more than other countries in Europe. The latest figures also suggest that ketamine is now the fourth drug of choice for young people behind cannabis, ecstasy and cocaine.
There is a certain cognitive dissonance at the heart of Generation K: On the one hand, we see it as a silly, wonky horse tranquilliser. On the other hand, it is literally a horse tranquilliser... A horse tranquilliser that can make you piss blood.
As it has grown in popularity, so have bladder injuries and addictions. In this report, Matt Shea gets deep into the UK’s Generation K, and finds out how a party drug can go too far.

@@tessab9374 late to reply but damn is that true…. Even some of the least intelligent of my friends are at least self reliant bc of staying away from the bad influences.. Some people think it’s cool to be smart without trying, as if they’re in Good Will Hunting. That was me in highschool… I took all the AP courses for college credit, and scored a 33 on the ACT. Was never a drinker so I gravitated towards pot. People who sold pot back in college weren’t just always nice hippies, but dealers of any drug.. I believe pot, which I enjoy regularly, is/was a gateway drug bc an illegal market introduces harder drugs more easily. This is sad. I take IV Ketamine medically for CPTSD and Depression with a doctor in Washington State and it honestly has changed my life for the better. Drugs have the ability to heal people but they can be equally as harmful, especially without medical supervision. I have experienced a plethora of horrible side effects from many different antidepressants, while on the flip side I receive medical marijuana which helps a ton with my pain, as well with my occasional Ketamine boosters every 9 months, so I know drugs aren’t all just black and white like some say they are, though that also doesn’t mean they can’t just as easily be abused and harmful. Hopefully one day the worlds governments will learn to focus more on studying, decriminalizing, and regulating substances rather than demonizing anyone who uses them. Maybe then there wouldn’t be things like “Ket Bladder” and drug cartels wouldn’t be able to distribute products cut with unknown often fatal adulterants all for a quick buck.

As a medical professional it’s absolutely wild seeing someone insufflate 1000mg of ketamine in one sitting, I mean for someone 165lbs or 74kg were would push anywhere from 100-250mg depending on the person, other medications, etc but for the average 165lbs person a 150mg dose via IV would have you at surgical anesthsia levels 100% and within seconds usually less the 1 minute, so he is doing ten times that and just hanging out!!! But that goes to show you how significant drug tolerance can be, same with opioids. I’ve seen patients that would inject 160mg of OxyContin, that dose could kill several people without a opioid tolerance, however all this aside ketamine is really one of the safest dissociative anesthetics out there, preserves breathing reflex, mild increase in BP an bronchodilation
@anotherguy9402

Actually Sernyl (phencyclidine or PCP) was the first dissociative anesthetic and was chemically modified to be shorter acting for use in surgery. It was literally battle tested during the Vietnam war because it could safely anesthetize people in battle conditions. And for tachyphylaxis or tolerance, methamphetamine causes tolerance amazingly fast, especially smoking it apparently. Of course the psychedelics fit that description too....I remember that from personal experience. ;*[}

As an older man that has used dope and mushrooms to escape the reality of my terrible childhood trauma I can say, "there is no escape". Instead it is through mindful practices, "what it is that you focus on" that allows you to make a truly rewarding life. It's not "what you get from life" but what you give to life that brings the real happiness. I've realised that judgement of others treatment towards you if other's are cruel or harmful towards you or of the negative narrative of life that is truly destructive to you. When you practice judgement or seek justice it's forms a cruel self judgement that debiltates you. More self hatred, therefore more self harm. Drugs actually stop you being able to use "your mind" THE ONLY ONE YOU HAVE from being useful to you. Unfortunately the world is so bad and people so unfair, cruel, vicious, predatory, and harmful. This is all learned behaviour, we feel like we have to protect ourselves from further harm. If you start to make a practice of finding the beauty and wonder in the moment I assure you you can become wonderful, beautiful, kind, and happy. Therefore creating in you, and those around you wonderful reality. John Edit: I'll add, have a look at abandonment theory, everyone ever knew used drugs and alcohol for escape had this commonality. I actually believe we all have the issue to some degree. I have, and the work I've done on it has been rewarding.

Amazing video. Thanks for drawing attention to this vice! I was a ket addict between the ages of 17-18. I vividly remember staying at a friends house on the sofa one evening, and his dad walked into the living room just as I was doing my morning line. He didn’t say anything but I realised that day K had completely warped my perception of what was normal. I did about 2.5-3g a day and the cramps/bladder symptoms were unbearable. I’m over 3 years clean now from daily use (with a short relapse early this year unfortunately) but I have to express my life has changed immeasurably for the better. I definitely subscribe to the NA philosophy “once an addict, always an addict”. I know I could never trust myself to touch a drug in moderation again. I’ve quit drinking too for that very reason. If you’re someone looking for a reason to quit - please take my comment into consideration. When I was an addict I was sick, clinically depressed, suicidal, and barely coping with my job or relationship. Sober me is successful, works hard, has emotional capacity for when things go wrong, and can tackle struggles head on whilst also having Grace and patience with myself. ❤

As a person in recovery for five years i can tell you being clean and sober is much easier than being an active drug user. Some people have psychiatric issues and they just need to get high to function, maybe their neurons did not develop properly, maybe they had terrible problems as babies like rape and their brain is fucked up. But I understand what you're saying, anyone should try to stop drugs and find out. I have been on medication, risperdal, anti depressants, sleeping pills. One thing about the therapeutic use of ketamine: I was super suicidial in early 2021. I consumed Ketamine and enjoyed art (Music and good movies) because I heard that the Swiss (now Germany too) use it for therapeutic medical use. I was sexually abused by my mother and my father was a brutal sociopath. This expierience with KETA+ART really safed my life and changed it, for a better purpose. IDK whats that was but it fells like magic. It was a really chaning situation but its still a play with fire. Don't let the respect of any substance but the potential of the therapeutic use is underrated! Thank you for showing the addictive perspective of K, I’m so tired of hearing about the benefits constantly and never being warned about the dangers. I don’t like speaking about my addiction but if even one person reads this and decides to listen to my advice it will be worth it. I genuinely never believed I could become addicted to k or that it could harm me, I’ve learned the hard way and 5 years later I don’t know how to get out of the hole. Furthermore the support for k addicts in this country is awful, most doctors don’t understand the damage or addiction potential of the drug meaning I’ve been to hospital before with k cramps and they’ve told me it’s ‘anxiety’. overcome this addiction as I have spent the last few years telling myself that this will be the last bump only to relapse the next day. I’m lucky that I’ve avoided bladder issues until now but I know it’s only a matter of time. For me, the main reason I use k is to treat my mental illness, I feel in part let down by the system which has offered me no support with my personality disorder since I turned 18 except giving me some pills to take. I want to stop but I feel like I can’t because it’s all I have as a safety net against my mental illness, but it’s a self fulfilling prophecy as the k makes me more depressed long term. To anyone using recreationally who has started using alone, using every time they drink, spending more than they can afford on k, getting any type of pain from it or has started building up a huge tolerance where they need more than a g to get high- please stop before you get in too deep. If I’m not able to beat this I at least want to know I helped another other individual choose a better path for themselves. This addiction will cost you jobs, relationships even with family, it will lose you friends and the respect of your peers, it will have you rolling on the bathroom floor in agony and sat on the loo for hours unable to piss. You will start to forget things, you won’t remember whole periods of time, faces, people, you will question reality and your own perception of yourself. You will no longer gain pleasure from anything except the obtaining and using of k and even then you will realize one day the horrible truth that even the k doesn’t help you anymore, and by then its already too late. It’s like the most toxic relationship because you want to get out but you’re trapped and if you have even one moment of weakness you’re back with that person. K was there for me during breakups and deaths and divorces and it felt so safe and good and now it’s the root of my problems. I never have money to spend on nice things for myself I have to spend it all on k, I work so hard just to waste it all on drugs and feel horrible about it. I’m sure a lot of people are reading this thinking just quit then, and I hope that I find that strength, I am truly trying, but it is so tiring living in a brain that is constantly trying to hurt you. Sometimes I just don’t wanna carry on. To anyone suffering with this right now I don’t have the answer but you aren’t alone and if you’re just now starting to build a habit please please put the k down before you end up deep in the k hole. Peace and love x

12:16 Literally the prime example of a severe addiction. Sad that he’s so aware yet at the point where’s he’s done it for so long he doesn’t even try to stop anymore.

Thank you so much for this video. Ive begun experimenting with k a bit and it is quite honestly one of my favorite drugs by far, but with the knowledge ive gained from this video i think im too scared to pick it up as a habit. Thank god for the internet and it's ability to spread drug safety

It’s still the safest drug around tho. Just don’t let any drug become a habit. I’m a regular user for 15y and I’m still fine. I never experienced any bladder issues. Just use it mindfully.

@@karovanhove8378 just don't use it. How would it be a big deal? Just don't use it, simple as that. Do you think that you will be less attractive, less equilibrate or less interesting because you don't do drugs. Quite the opposite. Just don't do it. It's useless. I mean, I can understand teenagers , they want to experiment new things etc...but as an adult no. It's so childish and meaningless.
