On this week's edition of the Palace of Pistons Podcast, Mike Anguilano, Aaron Johnson, and Jasper Apollonia are back to discuss the latest surrounding the Detroit Pistons. First, the guys talk about the Pistons being named by NBA executives as a dark horse landing spot for Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young. They debate if Young is the guy Detroit should be trying to trade for and if he fits alongside Cade Cunningham. Next, they break down Detroit's current search for a new President of Basketball Operations, going over the names that the Pistons could hire, and how important the hire is going to be.

Why is it assumed Trae was the issue and not Murray? Would Murray not have the same issue with ball dominant Cade?

He might, which is why I don't particularly want Murray either, but at least he has shown in the past that he is capable of playing defense.

Let me explain to you why we don’t want Trae. Acquiring him is repeating the Blake situation all over again. Yeah we would win some more games but ultimately we ain’t advancing deep in the playoffs & while doing so, we’re capped out of strengthening our roster & we’re repeating 2016 & 2019 all over again! So we would prefer moving in another direction to continue adding & improving our roster while still remain flexible with our cap
@landonweaver1040
@landonweaver1040 Месяц назад
Difference between Trae and Blake is Trae is a lot younger and doesn’t get hurt all the time, plus we would be adding Trae Young to pair with Cade, a legit star instead of Andre Drummond, I see where you’re coming from with this, but there is more upside to Trae on this team than there is with Blake on that team
@florida1289
@florida1289 Месяц назад
Fans constantly saying no to every move gets old. We must do something, stop acting like you got it figured out. Trae needs a massive guard next to him...Cade is that. I have no clue if it would work but I'd be willing to try...the Blake comparison is terrible.
@jesus1stconstitution2nd68

How has Trae done the past 2 seasons with obviously way more talent on his side than our current squad?? How is adding Trae going to turn us into a playoff team when a Trae led Atlanta team can’t make it in? Yeah Trae is younger but he is a defensive liability who will get cooked come playoff time. Teams tighten up their defense in the playoffs! Blake meanwhile had an All Pro season & still got swept in the 1st round. And don’t tell me he got hurt or was hurt during that playoff run bc even a healthy Blake wasn’t beating that Giannis squad. And making a move simply bc you want to try something different is obviously a stupid idea. Ask yourself how many GM’s in the league operate a team with that kind of logic. None, & if they did they ass would be in the unemployment line. The problem is you guys aren’t patient. Yeah we should be better than we are going on our 5th year of this rebuild, but it would all be a waste if we accelerate the process for instant gratification just to say we made the 1st round but ultimately getting swept right out of it. Maybe just maybe, we 1st hire a POBO who is accomplished, package our draft pick along with Ivey & a future & try to go after B.I. Or maybe it would be smarter to continue to develop our core, try to acquire Tobias for $25-27M a yr for 2-3 yrs, overpay a Malik Monk or Oubre Jr on another 2-3 yrs & wait for that star player to become available who may actually want to be here along with the other pieces I mentioned. By that time our core will be ready to compete or at the very least, they don’t pan out the way we hoped & we move on from them instead of hoping yr after yr! Tryna get Trae in my opinion is being lazy. Try & be creative like the talented successful executives in this league.

I would ask the question what did Trae Young's 26 ppg and 10 asts do for Atlanta who had a considerably better roster. I think you are too focused on the player and not what he actually provides to building a winning culture. No I don't want Trae Young because it leads right back to the same place Detroit has been for years a bottom 8 seed with no potential for growth. Detroit needs wings not guards. BI may be available. I'd even do Murray before taking Young. Teams don't win with baby sized guards. Plus it was Monty's fault for the regressions of Ivey and Duren. If the Pistons are going to trade Ivey or Duren then it should be a least for a SF/PF wing type not another undersized guard.
@jesus1stconstitution2nd68
@jesus1stconstitution2nd68 Месяц назад
Dude you said exactly what I said verbatim in this comment section. I had 2 guys try to argue in favor of Trae but he ain’t moving the needle. The whole reason we’re in this point is because the teams best players don’t play defense. Getting Trae young only makes this issue worse. We SHOULD NOT be going for Trae Young because him next to Cade is the exactly what Atlanta did with Dejounte Murray.

It's all about the cost. Young for cap would be crazy good. But once you trade Cade or half the Weaver picks it doesn't look so good. Personally I prefer Murray but either would be great at the right price. Do you trade Cade Ivey Duren and Ausar for both Young and Murray?

I'd rather keep and develop Ivey than sign Trae to that kind of money going forward. We have plenty of needs - but Trae Young "isn't one of them."

I vote neither, but the real problem here is that you have to trade actual stuff to get Trae (who, to be clear, I don't want), and....they don't have actual stuff to trade because the very worst GM in the history of the sport has squandered assets left and right.
