Had mine 9 months.. It was a great find.. it's just me and my wife. No monster cookouts. I use mine twice a week and it comes out perfect every time.. the catch pan is a must.. kingsford slowburn charcoal works great for long cooks.. It doubles as a grill..

These do make great smokers and grills. However, I bought me a 55-gallon barrel that was filled with corn oil. I cleaned it very well and then proceeded to buy some metal handles for the sides and top lid. I personally built my grill, rack and fire pit by hand using some old scrap metal lying around the shop. After all was welded up, I painted it with High Heat Spray Paint. Total investment: $55.00 including the paint. Total build time: 3 hours.

Cool stuff. I think I’m getting one for father’s day. Can’t wait! I do, however, think the ash catcher should come standard. Most any other charcoal grill on the market comes with an ash catcher.

im building one of these I have about 65-70 bucks in it total . I realy like the way they smoke . the difference in mine is I have a heat baffle above the charcoal /heat and I put in a door on the bottom so I can add wood chuncks with out having to put it in through the top .

looking at getting one of these. I;m guessing you cooked a small brisket? Brisket typically takes longer than 6 hrs to cook.
@donniedarko979
@donniedarko979 6 лет назад
joe watson I took it to 165° hanging in then and took it off wrapped it and laid it flat until it reached 200. Then I took it off the heat wrapped it in a towel and let it sit for two hours. Probably wasn’t the largest brisket but there’s lots of great videos of how to monitor your temperature with the pit barrel cooker.

G'day what a great grill! It's well made has everything you need to start smoking or grilling and they supply even the screw driver and spanner to attach the lid to it great! I only wish that you could buy them down here in Australia, we still have not gotten over our thinking that you need a gas bbq to cook with, I use charcoal and smoke and grill with it and it's terrific thanks for showing it in detail kind regards John Tasmania Australia.

You know when someone has an idea that's so smart because everyone is so stupid? People have been making these things for years. My grandfather made one out of a road culvert about 60 years ago. It could fit over 40 rings of garlic sausage in 1 cook. Edit: like seriously, its ridiculously easy to make one of these for yourself with a few oil drums and some basic tools and it'll fit your needs a lot better in the long run.

@TheHollarBBQ
@TheHollarBBQ 4 года назад
Yeah it all depends on the type of wood and how much. You truly just need a couple of chunks. My favorite mix is pecan and a small piece of hickory. If you go straight hickory it can be overpowering.

$300 for an old drum, some re-bar, and the stuff that comes with a $20 grill... why? BTW starting your coals in the smoker, you added a lot of extra unnecessary ash...
@crunch9362
@crunch9362 5 лет назад
1. How do you regulate the temperature on these pit barrels? Is it the vent at the bottom? 2. I noticed alot of coal ash floating around. Is that a problem with it getting all over your meats?
@TheHollarBBQ
@TheHollarBBQ 5 лет назад
Crunch the vent at the bottom should be placed at the recommendation from Pit Barrel. You shouldn’t have to be touching it once set. What I do is light it just like pit barrel says. If the temp is too low just crack the lid just a bit. Like maybe half inch. That will raise the temp. Once it gets where you want it shut it back down. But don’t touch that bottom vent. I don’t get ash from my coals when cooking only when cleaning it out. What coals are you using?
@crunch9362
@crunch9362 5 лет назад
@@TheHollarBBQI don't have one of these pit barrel cookers yet. I noticed alot of ash floating around in your video when you opened the lid. I was just concerned if it would coat the food. As for coals that I use its either Kingsford or Royal Oak.
@TheHollarBBQ
@TheHollarBBQ 5 лет назад
Crunch no need to worry about ash. The camera will pick up stuff you might not see otherwise. Kinda like when the sun shines in your house and you see the dust floating around. No more ash than any other cooker. Thanks for the questions and Merry Christmas brother.

PBCs are what you call set it and forget it you set the vent at the bottom for whatever the Pit Barrel Cooker Company says and the air is regulated by the amount of hole in the bottom and with the rebars that goes through the holes at the top you just lit your coals put your food in put the lid on and walk away and let it do its thing
