Was hoping for some temp checks. Put one in my tailgater. Bout 100° off. Old controller was within 25° of the lid. Haven't had a chance to do a lot of cooking on it. Been babysitting hunters. But so far i'm not impressed. Far as the app telling you temps, seems to do alright. Adjusting the temp on the app is a nightmare. I definitely wouldn't trust that if i wasn't standing in front of the pit making sure it was where i wanted it. The actual temp is all over the place. Pretty much every second or two it changes. You're the first i've seen on RU-vid that has posted one installed. Patently waiting on what you think. And tell the one commenter on here how the "P" setting works. He knows who he is, we've had words.....
Great Video ! I'm on the fence about which grill to get. My favorite BBQ is HEAVY smoked or to the point where it is bitter or almost bitter to the taste. Will this Pit Boss Austin XL get me there? Thanks RG
Does the fan still stay on steady, or does it cut in and out with this new controller as it works? Trying to compare this one to the Rectec controller that cuts the fan off and on as it goes to keep temps within 5% of the showed temp instead of 20% accuracy that the pitboss tried to maintain. So far, it looks like I’m still gonna go with the Rec Tec controller.
The new Pro Series as Lowe's has a PID controller but from what I have heard they only increase by 50 degree increments which is a bit disappointing since most PID controllers will increase by 5 degrees Curious to know about flameouts as well, keep us posted if it helps with flameouts. One of my Pit Boss grills will flame out from time to time but the other one never flames out. It's annoying to deal with flame outs.
I'm fairly new to the pellet grill thing, but I thing 5 degree increments on a controller is similar to measuring something with a micrometer and then cutting with an axe.
Does the new controller allow the Pitboss to connect to your home Wifi router so you can access it from anywhere over the internet? Or does the Wifi only connect the phone directly to the Pitboss if you are nearby?
@@twg2984 Thanks! I was hoping this could connect the grill to the router and my internet, so I could start it up on my way home from work so it'd be ready when I get home.
You can monitor and change temps from anywhere. However the grill will not let you start it up from the app, you still have to do that at the controller.
@@dyinbreedbbq7758 which if you have kids, I think is a good idea. That way you can look inside before firing it up. Never know what toys the kids may hide inside and forget about!
