bobby jene smith (after watching her film) This is a dancer whose 'skin' on the inside is in union with her 'skin' on the outside. There is a seamless relationship. There is a pool of melting in the movements as they travel from her 'somatic interiority' to the space she sustains around her. The inside is being danced... outside. It is compelling. She is not dancing to a form... given by a culture or a tradition. Ballet is the imposition of a structure. She listens to a 'given structure' and becomes it. The "warm honey like liquid".... is evident. There is a melting point between separately expressing elements within the dancer. Distinctive elements lose their 'held' structure... in the birth of the next and the next and the next... Embryological unfolding... in dance. The absolute unity... flow.... motion... without hesitation... being. We witness an unfolding life. She dances the natural forces.... unfolding within her... in real time. This is... Somasphere.

Always interesting to see how other artists can react or add to a piece of music so well known and played by so many. The explanations provided by BJS did not seem to bring anything very original or unique on her take on Sibelius concerto. Her comments could apply to almost any other piece of music that concentrates a lifetime of emotions into one single piece of music.Take Prokofieff, Brahms, Shostakovitch violin concerti, just to name a few. Some masterpieces are sometimes best left alone.
