Is the new Pitch N Time DJ expansion pack for Serato DJ worth 29,-? I bought it so you can see and decide for yourself :)
With the arrival of Serato DJ 1.6, we were introduced to a couple of new features including Quantize and the option to name your cue points. You could do that with Serato Scratch Live, but not with Serato DJ. Now you can name all 8 cue points.
Serato DJ 1.6 also offers two new expansion packs: Jet Pack (efx pack) for 19,- and Pitch N Time for 29,-. Pitch N Time is a replacement for Serato's Key Lock function, which was not very good. Time to compare the regular Key Lock to Pitch N Time.

Hello I know this question is a little bit of topic but I know your pro i will ask you than anyone else I was trying to set beatgrids on some of the songs on serato dj. do you perfer for to start to beatgrid at the first beat drop or at the beginning of the entire track? Some songs don't have a beat drop untill several seconds after it starts.

+T Cra set your beat grid at the first downbeat.more times than not if you set the first marker on a intro with no apparent downbeat the track tends to be off when trying to sync or match with other tracks or when using slicer the slices sound off.

Hi guys, Due to health issues I couldn't finish video's I was working on (NS7-2 review) and I can't record new video's either. I lost my voice over the weekend and that makes it a bit difficult to record stuff ;) I should be fine in a couple of days so stay tuned! I appreciate you taking the time to do this one. I was wondering what the difference would be and I really had already decided to even use this feature at all. I think Serato should make this a free update. Especially since the original Keylock does not work as intended. Thanks DJ Double Edge

Na 3 dagen Serato Pro (laatste versie) loop ik al tegen het KeyLock probleem aan. Wobbly bass en dat al bij een pitch van nog geen 5%. Super dat ik dan net weer op jouw kanaal een video tegen kom hierover. Ik ga deze expension-pack zeker aanschaffen. Keep up the good work!

TLM thanks for the review! I bought pitch n time as well and although I agree with most that it should have been included in the update $29 isn’t all that bad especially when it’s clear to be a very beneficial piece of software! Personally I do a lot of remixes with different song so this is actually perfect for my productions. I’ve also used it in live gigs and can hear the difference.

Pitch lock was never designed to be used with such dramatic shifts in tempo! Most people work within the range of +/- 8 like on Technics decks, so you'll never notice much change in sound if you treat it similar to a vinyl deck. Why would you want to take a track so far from it's original tempo anyway?

hey bro i was wondering how did you get the option to switch serato dj to relative mode in the software itself because i don't see the option. I Use a DDJ-SX with sera to dj 1.6.3 and I've downloaded every update. Im not sure if i have to turn on a specific setting or if it came with an Expansion pack? -Thanks DjMando-Flow

Very good review TLM! Is there a chance to compare the serato pitch n time with the key lock feature in traktor? I think you should try the comparison with a track with vocals because all the gliches and pops in the sound will be much more intence.

Right now I don't have tracks with vocals that I can use because I only use my own material on this channel. I would love to do a lot of Serato vs Traktor video's and I will try to get my hands on Traktor.

Hi am using the latest 1.7.7 and somehow I haven't got th2 'INT' bar on my desktop...Do you know how I can enable it to show up?

+frenchboyh31 INT, ABS, and REL are all DVS settings which means TLM has the DVS pack active. You'll have to pay 100 to use the DVS

Do you have a, how to transfer your music from external to external and still have all your crates, with all your music, still in the crates video? I transferred my music to another external for backup purposes. And some crates aren't there or if they are there, only one or a few song is in some of them. Not my full crate.

So basically Serato charges you extra for something which other (even lesser) software does as a matter of course, simply because the coding of their original pitch & time code was sub-standard. Is Serato a subsidiary of Apple? :-\

The only issue I found with Pitch N Time is you have to raise your USB Buffer rate or there will be audio drop outs at low buffer rates like 1 msec - 2 msec & it will need to be raised to around 5 msec. This only matters if you need super tight response for scratching but if you're scratching you probably wouldn't use Pitch N Time anyhow.

nah not at all. You use it if you want to mix in key and changing speeds takes a song out of key. You can also use it so that when you make a slower song faster or slower the song doesn't sound like the chipmunks or a chopped n screwed version respectively. You generally shouldn't change the speed of the songs too much, but some key changes due to speed are so drastic that something like pitch'n time would really help. For instance, I did a mix with NWA's Express Yourself at about +7% and you'd almost swear Dr. Dre's balls hadn't dropped yet. Pitch'n time would make him sound normal again.

Q: If I'm Tryin Tu MIX A Track That's 70-80 Bpms Wit A Track That's 120-130 Bpms Is Pitch N Time A Good Expansion Pack To Purchase

i don't think so, because you'll over speed the the first track that will lost its flavor, because 80 to 120 is huge difference, but if you really need that, the answer is yes " Pitch N time" is gonna help

I bought a MacBook Pro 16” and pitch n time is not compatible but I’m going to turn it off for now . I’m a mobile Dj so not really needing it 100% Catalina works with itunes a new music app and pioneer Dj controller so I think I’ll be okay with pitch n time

With all respect djTlm, I really don't like the hole software, i feel that Traktor is much better than serato, better solide and professional look, every think is big so even if the laptop is far i still can see every think, Free updates, i can map my controller the way i want, i can add some extra devices, i can edit the grids, make different cue point (Loop cue point, Load, grid.....) it's a lot better than serato dj, i've been playing on serato when i got ddj SZ, but know i'm going back to Traktor I have a couple of questions: Can u make a video to show how to map a serato controller to Traktor properly? will the performance pads be the same? (Colors,Features etc....) Thnaks

Great stuff man. Question or confirmation.. And anybody with knowledge of this product can answer this for me. When you purchase pitch n time is it embedded into your serato software? I use various mixers, controllers, computers. I want to know that my expansion pack will travel with whatever I use as long as I am using my purchase of serrate DJ. Thanks in advance! And rock on!

Too me, Pitch N Time degrades the audio quality alot more than the regular pitch lock. Even though, it evens out the beat, it makes the audio sound very robotic and you lose dynamics!

Wow. Thanks for the knowledge. I noticed the issue when I switched over from Traktor. Never knew it was an issue. Thanks. I think the 30 bucks is worth it for the expansion pack. You will make it back if you are doing what you should be doing as a DJ. Also, for R&D purposes Serato has to make their money too. Request: Can you touch on the video expansion pack and recommendations? I am in the midst of getting a new and faster matching to use the capability seems like my Serato crashes when I try to up the settings for better quality.

Thank you for this video your videos are always great verily highly info on Serato and controllers. I was looking at this video because I was thinking of purchasing pitch and time. But I have a question and I cannot find it anywhere but I know you are the Messiah so here it goes .on Pioneer cdjs 900 and 2000 there is a feature a button call Master Temple which is a great feature it keeps the music on Pitch even if it's fast or slow keeps it pretty much intact if the other track you're playing in with a different types of BPM.. so you can basically mix a fast song with a slow song and you can't tell the difference in the transaction because of the Master Temple. Is there anything like that in Serato.. thank you

........the search continues.................... On my Numark CDX, they have a unique function using the pitch control feature and the key lock feature...... Sliding the pitch control can change the pitch of the key note in a song, yet it will also change the tempo/bpm as well. The unique function is that when I enable the key lock feature, it can lock the new pitch of the key note but will not lock the tempo/bpm. The key lock feature in Serato DJ does not have this unique function and my Numark CDX is not a Midi controller. Does Serato "Pitch 'N' Time" DJ have this unique function in it's software/expansion for use with my equipment?

i found that some of the tracks imported from rekord box were not in perfect beat grid which threw out the loops and hot cues, also the playlists were out of order and no folders but never the less this is a MASSIVE step in the right direction, something i was hoping they would do when i first saw these players come out. if you only have a small number of playlists with no cues or loops then of course it will be for you.....

Depending on what controller you're using, (I Use a DDJ - SX) Press the Shift + Tempor range.

TheZuluJesus What about the NS7 II? It goes from 8% to 16% to 50%, but I'm more comfortable mixing with a range of 25%. If I press Shift + Tempo Range all it does is toggle Key Lock/Master Tempo on and off.

when you slow it down completely it makes the snare and the clap stutter a bit and it sounds crunchy in a bad ghetto way (lol) No i see why this pitch and time is kinda useless to use

Funny that people just expect shit to be free forever. There is a huge development cost for the core pieces and the addons. The Serato core had been free, just advanced pieces have a reasonable cost, and if you don't desire them you don't have to get them. I've had Traktor too and it's nice, but it's not a "more professional look". It suits a different style (EDM) then Serato in my opinion.

Lou Paris Maybee you're right, but each one has his own perferences, i'm used to traktor and i like it, because i like to use extra devices next to my cdjs or controller, for example to controll the remix decks and other extra features, but i do respect you're own choice man

Dj SkyFall Offical Channel, of course personal preference will always trump. I ran with Traktor for about 18 months. It's a great piece of software. I did have some issues with some of the updates that pushed me towards Serato. But both are top notch, and serve some specific purposes. Traktor is a more competent "Live Remix" software, although Serato is catching up with Flip. Serato I think is a little more forgiving for mixing older music that can't be beatgridded.

This is why You buy cdj 2000's Just plug your usb or hardrive with your rekordboxed music and away you go No glitchy Software or laptop to worry about. Maybe a firm ware update but that's it... IMHO.....
