John Ostmeyer was great enough to give us a detailed walkaround of his Pitts S-1T. If you ever wanted to learn about the Pitts biplane, here's your chance. John explains everything is excellent detail.
Excellent pre-flight!!! Always wondered if there was anything special an aerobatic pilot did to pre-flight his plane :-) Thanks Mr Johnston, another airworthy aircraft ;-)
Flyboy BC It really doesn’t matter as long as you remember to take it off. The water bottle also helps collect anything that would otherwise leak into the ramp
It weights less than 600 kilos empty. Let's say 700 kilos with fuel and the pilot, for a 200hp engine, means 1hp for 3.5 kilos, which is great in my opinion. Also there is 260hp engine and 300hp engine too.
You should not have any problems fitting with your height. You will need a back chute instead of a seat parachute. I never had an issue with leg room. Most Pitts pilots wear thin sole shoes like pumas or merrell barefoot for better feeedback and to ensure ones toes are off the brakes.
I have seen used ones from £15k to £79k. I think the cheaper ones are shared with other pilots, like, you pay the 1/4th of the price if four pilots use it. Something like that.
