You did it!!! The video we’ve been waiting for my man. You know what, I’m actually glad they were basically equals. It almost seems like the universe is in balance, and it would have felt wrong for one to have overcome the other. It’s amazing that we’ve got so much choice now as head shavers, feels a little like the companies have given a nod to head shavers, even if it’s only in the smallest recess of their minds, because I feel that head shavers are become an increasingly important segment of the traditional wet shave world that can’t be ignored. We need a particular tool for a particular job, and rather than just having to ‘make do’ we can now lay claim to our our kit. What a time to be a wet shaver 👏👏 My man, thank you for doing this…I’ll be going back to watch it over a few more times…can’t wait to do my own comparison when the time comes.
I really tried to be thoughtful and I think that's why this went long. I love both of these razors and I wanted to really talk about why one person may want one over the other. They both have upsides and I think this almost just completes the head shave arsenal. Thanks for joining me brother!!
i like the Leaf BUT for face shave if you sport a full beard and shaving the neck The Leafs head is too big and bulky imo, too bad High Proof is expentive
Right now it's on sale till December at 99$ which is very close to the Leafs price! I agree though, I think for face shaver's looking for a pivot this is a very good razor. Thank you for the comment my friend!
Great comparison video with good explanation of the pros and cons of each razor ... Actually the Leaf was the razor that saved my Traditional wet shaving journey about 3 years ago, I nearly gave up on DE razors even though I had been using them for 6 years I was not getting consistently pleasant shaves, the Leaf fixed that. It turned out the DE razor I was using for many years did not suit me, I found a DE razor (RockWell 6c) and shaving routine that suited my skin, after that my DE technique improved quickly and now I shave with a diverse collection of razors.👍🤠
I'm actually the same way I picked up a de razor and didn't love it, but after experience the leaf I went back and actually could enjoy the de shave. It's almost like the leaf taught me better form well not punishing me as badly when I had bad form. 👍❤️
Lather is going to really be the best way to reduce any drag that you may be getting. Upping the slickness and hydration really helps with this razor. At least that's been my findings. There is a very specific skin feel with the High Proof though and that could be something you don't like - I find it to be very similar to the Henson.

Great video, Subie. When I first saw the leaf, I didn't think much of it until I understood how it works. The leaf is one of the very few modern razors that accommodate many shaving preferences. The high proof has an awesome design for sure
There still is something special that leaf was the innovator, that they essentially paved the way for the space and made a 1/2 DE pivoting razor available. They have absolutely above and beyond customer care and I can't say enough about how good the shave is. It's unique and absolutely fantastic - but I do think the High Proof takes concepts and tweaks them for people that want a smaller more nimble version. Thank you Roger for being here!!
Two things: 1) Saruman “To War!!” is the best way to start a shave battle; 2) an n of one - STATS!! - you’re talking my language, buddy!! That’s it, we have to design a quanto study on shaving. But where do we publish it? Are there no peer-reviewed wetshaving journals? That’s it - we’re making one!

Oh man, missed this one! Funny because the Weishi turned me off to wet shaving, but Leaf brought me back...and currently the Gillette Fatboy keeps me firmly in this camp. But my wife has stolen the Leaf, and just complains about the heft of it. Enter the High Proof. Hopeful that will solve her problem. Thank you for being a bright spot on RU-vid!
Well hi again my friend! It's easy to miss - it's a "too many videos issue" 🤣🤔 I think for all the reasons your wife doesn't like the High Proof will fill the gap. Especially if the face size ever bugged her.. my wife says that she didn't realize how much she appreciated a small razor head till she used the Thorn and High Proof (as small headed razors really aren't sold or marketed to women if you think about it.) The lightness and dynamic nature of the HIGH PROOF will be an easy routine shaver, hopefully you got 2 or you'll be fighting over the one. Great comparison Subie! Can't wait to take delivery of my High Proof razor. I ordered the silver. Do you think the black razors finish , being anodized, will fade over time and with heavy use?
That's one of the questions I have that really can't be predicted. Just how well will the finish hold up? Will it hold up the same under variable water conditions? All things we will see! I can tell you my black has not faded at all, but I don't think the test units are fair examples of what things will look like on a mass scale. Really looking forward to everyone doing their personal testing!!
Very interesting comparison shave. It’s tbc (when the High Proof I’ve ordered arrives) but looks like its the one for me, rather than the Leaf (too big, heavy & cumbersome for me personally, though it otherwise a great head shaver). I really enjoy your vids btw.

Of course!! My wife and I specifically test every razor together for this exact reason. She likes the longer handle as well but said the weight of the high proof and mildness works for her as well. TBH - they both are good. The leaf has been out tried and true couples razor for years and years 👍❤️😁 Thank you - so much - for the comment! Great showdown! I can't wait to use the High Proof! I've been using my Thorn lately and it really is a great shaver. I forget how easy it is to shave with and I always get a smooth comfortable shave. It will be interesting to see how it goes for me without blade-feel and I'm hoping it has the efficiency I need. I think the magnets should be fine as they are nickel-plated, and they don't actually come into contact with anything. It would actually take effort to mess up the magnetism on those rare earth magnets. Just don't heat them up with a torch and you should be fine! Haha! I've done it and without a magnet generator they're toast.
I think you're going to flip when you see the magnets and how they work!! They are just so smooth and really do the job well. Definitely think this falls within the high mild to low medium performance range which just works amazing on my skin. 👍❤️
Subie - I would have to agree with you. I don't head shave but have a leaf for face shaving and would need to use another razor instead of the leaf for to start side burns and for under my nose. Hopefully the high proof will finish their first order soon and can see how they compare.

Tried the Highproof today. No comparison to leaf IMO after only 1 shave. HP has too much metal on skin… too suctiony (not a word).. only had one shave so far.. opinion could change.. but fell in love and wanted to share my life with the leaf after we met, and after first meeting the Highproof, I’m not really wanting a second date (if that makes sense)🤷🏼♂️😂. But that’s my first impression. The blade is too tight to the razor angle… it needs an offset/gap for the blade I think.. just slight adjustment 🤷🏼♂️ not sure.. just a lot of suction. Would definitely see that a slick preshave would help the HP

I also have a very strong leaf preference, but I struggle with the Leaf in tight spots where the High Proof really works well as a one and done kind of razor. But your right the feel is VERY specific, it contours and hugs the skin which is something the leaf really doesn't do (actually the Leaf Elite has much more of that similar suction feel). I love the shorter handle on the High Proof as well. How was your efficiency? I find the High Proof to fall within the middle slot of the leaf, so not as efficient, but definitely not as much blade feel or chance of Knicks. I'm happy the leaf is still champion in your den my friend 👍
@@SubieShaves HP’s Shave felt BBS at first, but growth was back literally overnight… it’s a good whisker wiper, and yes maneuverability for HP is good. I think they could make some slight adjustments and hit a grand slam. Right now, their just “on base” IMO
Fascinating!! So you did manage a good shave, just didn't have the staying power of a more aggressive shaver. Totally fair analysis honestly. The Twig is the same way for me - which is why I have always preached the Thorn. I definitely could see High Proof releasing a +++ aggressive (like Henson), or A cap or something, to enhance blade feel and closeness. It is actually something that I have heard mentioned several times for furure, down the line updates pending a successful launch. I think it's like you said, an on base first start, and I'm very intrigued to see what they develop next. I love it as is, and Subie Stacking it has given it a little more "umph" if you want to try it. Again REALLY happy that you posted your experience!! Thanks my friend!! Sounds great that high proof razor, but high proof become to "high price" 😄 to expense for me at this moment. Maybe in the future when it price may better..
Love my leaf razor, have been using the twig for head and face shave recently. Unfortunately the magnet on the bottom row fell out, good news it still works just gotta be a little more careful when reloading new blades. Get about two good shaves with the twig maybe a third if I am willing to tolerate a bad shave before swapping to another half blade. Great product. Love thsese videos just found this channel recently with the High Point review.

If you reach over to Leaf they may have an extra magnet or will warranty one for you usually if the glue comes off. Both razors might work for Dome shaving, but neither looks like it can cut in tight spots like just below the nose, especially the Leaf…. Am I right @SubieShaves ?
If you watch the face shave we did with the High Proof, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PCPtrrUrCcg.html the HIGH PROOF actually did around the nose really well, and worked fantastic in tight spots. One of the pros for me for the High Proof is it works around my ears and tight areas better than any other pivoting razors (shown @13:16) With that said the leaf "can" be used there, but in my opinion, it really isn't the razor I would reach for under the nose or around the ears.
